Abstract

1,009,122. Casting composite articles; cutting tools. PRESSED STEEL CO. Ltd. June 12, 1964 [March 13, 1963], No. 9860/63. Headings B3B and B3F. A method of making a composite cutting tool having a cutting edge member and a shank, comprises preforming a cutting edge member 10, preforming a shank pattern member 12 of combustible material which burns without appreciable residue, embedding the cutting edge member and shank pattern in a foundry mould and pouring molten metal into the mould to burn and replace the shank pattern member. The molten metal fuses with the cutting edge member to form the shank of a composite cutting tool. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 850,331.
