Abstract

A longitudinally oriented flaggable filament or bristle comprises 5-95% of a polyolefine and the remainder comprises polystyrene or a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer. The polyolefine may be isotactic polypropylene. The filament may be longitudinally oriented by stretching.ALSO:A flaggable filament consists of 5-95% of polyolefine and the remainder polystyrene or styrene-acrylvintrile copolymer and is produced by feeding the polymeric mixture into a heating zone, melt extruding a filament which is then quenched, heat softened and longitudinally stretched. The ends of the filaments are flagged by mounting tufts of filaments in a brush head which is held against a rotating propeller-like blade.
