Abstract

1,007,897. Waveguide phase-shifters. POSTMASTER - GENERAL. March 28, 1962 [April 7, 1961], No. 12661/61. Heading H1W. A variable phase-shifter, for use with a circular waveguide using H on modes of propagation, comprises an extensible helix. The helix 7 is made of piano wire and is threaded at either end into the bores of two annular members 2, 4 which carry circular waveguide sections 3. The member 4 may be moved axially within a sleeve 1 by means of a threaded cap 5. Since the sleeve is fixed at one end to the member 2, this movement effects extension or contraction of the helix. The helix is supported by three circumferentially spaced silver-steel rods 9 fixed in the member 2 and slidably supported by the member 4.
