Abstract

Projectiles.-Consists in loading explosive projectiles with bullets A connected together in sets of two or more, to which may be added ordinary shot D, the whole being embedded in resin or black powder. The bullets may be shaped in various ways and may be connected together by chains, wires, or rods; and these rods may be in parts rigidly coupled together or arranged to telescope relatively to each other. Sets of various kinds and sizes may be used in the same projectile. Several sets may be required to fill the diameter of the projectile, as shown in Fig. 1; or a single set may fill the whole diameter, as shown in Fig. 5. The point and other parts of the projectile may be weakened to facilitate rupture.
