Abstract

1,007,446. Hydraulic reciprocating motors and pumps. WEATHERHEAD CO. July 10, 1964 [Dec. 4, 1963], No. 28588/64. Heading F1A. In a motor or pump comprising a rotatable cylinder block 26 having pistons 28 coupled to a flanged drive shaft 14, and a coupling shaft 33 connecting block 26 to drive shaft 14 for synchronous rotation, the connection between block 26 and shaft 33 permits tilting movement of the block for alignment with a valve plate 23. Tilting movement is provided by a loose splined connection 59 or by curved splines. Shaft 33 engages shaft 14 through bevel gears 31, 34 and a spherical bearing 38, and is supported in the valve plate by a bearing 42 in a housing 43 axially adjustable by a screw 53 to adjust the bearing clearances. The piston rods 29 are retained by a plate 97 in the drive shaft 14, and engage the pistons with freedom of axial movement, the pistons being internally shaped to guide the rods into their operating positions. The valve plate floats in the housing and is held against rotation by sleeves in the inlet and outlet conduits between the housing and the valve plate, hydraulic balancing being provided in the sleeves and the valve plate working face.
