Abstract

1,007,084. Perforating; jointing; jointing by forging. PRESTINCERT Ltd. July 31, 1964, No. 30286/64. Headings B3H, B3V and B3W. A method of securing thin sheets 6, 7, 8 in face-to-face contacting relationship comprises contacting the flat face 5 of a flat-faced stud 1 of polygonal cross-section, having inset a short distance from each end a peripheral groove 2, 3, with one face of one sheet 6 and subjecting the assembly to pressure so that the stud is forced through the sheets and an annulus of material from the sheet 6 enters the groove 2 and an annulus of material from the sheet 8 enters the groove 3. The stud is formed from squaresection bar and may have a screw-thread or pin projecting from one face, or may have a tapped bore. The punch and the die have staking teeth which indent the sheets adjacent each corner of the stud to assist in causing the material to flow into the grooves 2 and 3.
