Abstract

1,006,999. Refrigerators; cooling liquids in bulk. J. SAMUEL WHITE & CO. Ltd. June 19, 1963 [April 4. 1962], No. 13055/62. Headings F4H and F4S. A transportable cooler for beverages particularly beer comprises a east aluminium or other metallic cooling pad 11 containing a copper evaporator coil 25 of a conventional refrigerator system which is enclosed in a rectangular casing 10. The pad has a protuberant concave upper surface 23 shaped to be in surface-tosurface contact with the base 19 of a metal storage keg 14 of standard shape and dimensions having a recessed convex base 19 strengthened by eight wedge-shaped radial ribs and fitted with a discharge tube 18 reaching to near the bottom of the keg and a gas inlet tube 20. The flange 26 of the pad 11 bears through a rubber gasket 27 on a supporting member 28, filled with glass wool or other insulating material through which tubes 30, 31 pass connecting the coil 25 to the refrigerator circuit. A modified form of pad has the flange 26 extended to form an encircling trough which draws into a drip tray beneath. In a modified casing the refrigeration system is contained in side panels on two sides of a shallow base containing the pad. The cooler may comprise two or more pads controlled separately by adjustable thermostats or time switches but cooled by one refrigerating system.
