Abstract

1,005,832. Knitting machines. HUDSON STRUMPFFABRIK G.m.b.H. May 9, 1962 [May 23, 1961], No. 17772/62. Heading D1C. In a circular knitting machine having a welt dial, a yarn severing mechanism is provided comprising, a plurality of individually movable yarn catching blades presenting a circular yarn catching marginal portion, a cutting blade co-operating with the catching blades, and means selectively to adjust the catching blades to a position to co-operate with the cutting blade at the yarn severing position. As shown, dial 1 has radial grooves 3 in its upper side for welt hooks 4 controlled by cams 5 and radial grooves 8 on its under side to receive yarn catching blades 7, which form an interrupted ring with a serrated periphery, secured in position by cover plate 9. Each blade 7, Fig. 3, comprises portions 11, 12, portion 11 being horizontal and serrated at its end 6 and portion 12 being vertical and having a butt 13. A cutting blade 14 is secured to a vertical slidable rod 15 to be movable between a lower operative position adjacent serrations 6 and an upper inoperative position. A shaft 17 rotatably mounted in dial cap 2 carries a cam 18 which is operated when a yarn change occurs to engage butt 13 and push blades 7 outwardly. An arm 19 on the upper end of shaft 17 carries a projection 20 with a beveled cam surface 21 which co-operates with a cam surface on an arm 22 secured to rod 15 to move blade 14 down into contact with blades 7 so that the yarn is cut. A suction device 25 draws the cut ends into a container.
