Abstract

A film removing composition for use as an artist's drawing fluid for creating images by removing portions of a solvent-type resin film from a base sheet comprises (a) a solvent for the film which evaporates in less than 2 minutes when itself spread as a film, (b) a softening agent which is inert to the base sheet but in which the film is dispersible, and which does not completely evaporate under ordinary conditions in 1 hour, (c) a lubricant and (d) colouring matter, (a) and (b) being present in the relative proportions of 25-90% and 75-10% respectively, and (c) in an amount of 5-25% of (a) and (b). (a) is suitably an aromatic hydrocarbon, a chlorinated hydrocarbon, a monohydric alcohol, an ether alcohol, an ether, an ester or a ketone, a mixture of toluene and isopropanol being particularly satisfactory. (b) may be an anionic or nonionic surfactant, especially lauryl sulphate, stearic or palmitic acid, butyl stearate, or triethylene glycol di-(2-ethylbutyrate), while (c) is preferably a fatty oil such as coconut oil, or a low aromatic mineral oil. (d) is any suitable dye or colour, e.g. Victoria Blue, which renders the composition easily visible when spread in a thin layer. A protective colloid, such as polyvinyl pyrrolidone, may also be included. The composition is applied to the film as required, and the film treated then removed by wiping once the solvent has evaporated.
