[Also in Divisions B5 and D1] A web of paper 1 to be provided with a waterproof cut edge 4 is impregnated with paraffin wax 8 as a melt, solution or suspension from its upper surface in a band 3 about the line along which it is to be cut and reduced pressure is applied to its lower surface by means of a suction box 7. A laminate to be used for packaging liquids is formed by coating the impregnated web on one or both sides with a layer of heat sealable plastic before or after cutting.
