Abstract
100,436. Bulkley-Rider Tractor Corporation, (Assignees of Rider, W. A.). May 10, 1915, [Convention date]. Endless-track vehicles.-Tractors are provided with front and rear driving road wheels adapted to take an endless traction band. The front wheels are vertically adjustable, whereby for running on hard ground the front ends of the tracks may be raised and the vehicle driven hy the rear driving-wheels. For running on soft ground the front driving. wheels may be depressed to give a greater tractive effort. If the ground is very soft the wheels will sink in and the endless-tracks engage the ground. The rear axle 20 carrying the rear wheels 22 is provided with sprockets 30 for the endless track Lands 57, which pass round sprockets 55 on a secondary shaft 45 carrying road wheels 54. The shaft 45 is carried on radius-rods 43 and can be raised and lowered by means of hand-operated screw-and-nut devices. The sprockets 30 are driven from the rear shaft through clutches. By depressing the shaft 45, the whole weight of the vehicle may be thrown on to the track, the steering-wheels 12 being raised off the ground; steering is then effected by differential braking of the sprockets 30.
