Abstract

1,004,254. Belt fastenings. NORTH BRITISH RUBBER CO. Ltd. Feb. 6, 1964 [Jan. 4, 1963], No. 553/63. Heading F2Q. A conveyer-belt fastening comprises spaced longitudinally extending metal rods 11 embedded in and extending out of the end surface of the belt 10, the embedded portions of the rods being of varying lengths in order to obviate a plane of weakness across the belt width. Various arrangements of metal rods are shown in Figs. 1 to 4. Preferably the belt comprises a plurality of fabric plies faced with rubber on the outer surfaces thereof and the rods 11 are of galvanised, sherardised or stainless steel. To mount the rods 11 in the belt end, an upper layer of rubber is peeled back, longitudinally extending slots of varying length are formed in the fabric plies, a rod 11 is then moulded or cemented in position in each slot, and the upper layer of rubber is repositioned over the rods.
