A fuel cell comprises a solid inorganic ion exchange membrane with a pair of electrodes integrally adhered to opposite sides of the membrane, the electrodes comprising a bonded mass of catalytic metal particles and the inorganic ion exchange material (e.g. phosphates, arsenates, tungstates and molybdenates of zirconium, thorium, lafnium and titanium).
