100,408. BrÚviaire, R. A. April 9, 1915, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Ordnance, pneumatic; muzzle-loading; sound of discharge, modifying; flash of discharge, obscuring.-Consists in charg ing the explosion cham ber of the gun with ar explosive gaseous mix ture, such as one formed of air and acetylene which is ignited by means such as an electric spark ing-plug or by a briquette of ferro-cerium. In the form shown, air under pressure is admitted to the chamber r through a non-return valve j for the purpose of scavenging the gases arising from the previous explosion and filling the chamber with pure air. The shell t is then inserted through the muzzle of the gun and rests upon a shoulder b, after which by turning a cock s, a charge of acetylene suitable for the desired range is injected through a pipe c and non-return valve i from a bottle e of dissolved acetylene. The mixture of air and acetylene is then ignited by a sparking-plug k connected to an electric battery l. To prevent flame and noise, the muzzle is provided with holes m which open into a chamber n having front and rear openings o. The barrel may be surrounded by spirals of aluminium wire to deaden vibrations of the metal.
