Abstract

A switch comprises a two-piece casing in which a driven cam-shaft 7 is journalled, a hollow head part 3 of the casing being manually rotatable about the shaft axis relative to a cylindrical body part 1 for adjustment purposes, head 3 housing a switch unit 10 which is operable by a cam 9 formed in two annular sections, each having a peripheral lobe 24, 25 and being independently adjustable circumferentially relative to the axis of the shaft 7 to adjust the timing. Cam 9 comprises a cup 22, with an internally toothed annular portion, and an internally toothed annulus 17, both annuli meshing with an externally toothed ring 18 encircling and keyed to the driven shaft 7. Either or both annuli may be unmeshed from ring 18 and turned through an angle equal to a multiple of the pitch of the teeth before remeshing to adjust the timing. A bolt 6 is loosened and the head 3 rotated to move the microswitch 10 to provide a fine adjustment of timing. The cam lobes 24, 25 each span an arc of 180 degrees.
