Abstract

1,002,694. Ignition devices; liquid fuel admission devices; valves. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFANTS. March 7, 1962 [March 7, 1961; April 19, 1961], No. 8836/62. Heading F1B. An ignition device for spark ignition engines comprises a precombustion chamber 43, 145 with an injection orifice opening into the upper part thereof, spaced electrodes 40, 45 or 140, 146, an electromagnetic valve 5 providing control of the injection period and electrical means controlling the electromagnetic valve associated with the distributer. In Fig. 1 the electromagnetic valve 5 is controlled by means of an electrical contactor 6 associated with the distributer head 8. When the valve 5 is opened it allows passage of fuel to the injector igniter 9. The supply circuit is interrupted by separation of the terminals of the ignition contact breaker. In a modification (Fig. 7) the electromagnetic valve is contained in the injector igniter. Compressed air is supplied at 150. The solenoid coils 17 are supplied through a terminal 157. In Fig. 1 the carburetter is shown at 12. It is stated that the whole of the fuel may be injected. The start of the injection period may be controlled by controlling the angular setting of contactors according to the position of the accelerator pedal. The electromagnetic valve may be controlled by a permanent magnet and a coil which emits an electrical impulse each time the magnet passes in front thereof. The impulse amplified by means of an amplifier which may be transistorised is employed to control the electromagnetic valve. The ignition system may be transistorised.
