Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A sheath for a nuclear fuel element has an outer wall provided with a plurality of fins arranged in a chevron or herring-bone pattern, and at least a part of the fins is inclined to the surface of the wall. The wall 1 comprises fins 2 forming a herring-bone pattern 3. The arrow 4 indicates the general direction of flow for a liquid exchanging heat with the wall 1. Channels 5 are formed between the fins wherein a circulation of liquid is established, the admission of the liquid occurring near the apices 6, and the exit at the fin extremities 7. The extremities 7 are inclined towards the wall. The embodiment illustrated in Fig. 3 consists in folding each fin around its basic generatrix, i.e. that along which it is fixed to the wall, after-having fitted the necessary groove to each fin.
