Abstract

1,001,636. Stranding machines. A. PILCZUK. Sept. 30, 1961, No. 35446/61. Heading D1T. A wire rope stranding device comprises at least one hollow rotor 3 supported at each end by hollow shafts 5, 6 extending into the rotor, the facing ends of the shafts within the rotor being spaced apart by a distance at least sufficient to allow a wire supply reel 33 to be mounted on a shaft, the rotor being cut away as at 43 to permit such mounting, and drive means for drawing a core 32 through the shafts 5, 6 and for winding the wires from the reels 33 onto said core 32. In the embodiment illustrated the resulting rope 14 is then passed through a second set of wire supply reels coaxially mounted within a second rotor 4, the wire from these reels being fed to the exit end 29 of a hollow shaft 7 where they are stranded onto the rope 14. The rotors 3, 4 are driven from a common motor by belts (not shown) passing over pulleys 21, 22. The shaft 8 of the rotor 4 passes through a gearbox 9 that interconnects some take up wheels 23, 24 and a receiving bobbin 25 in a predetermined relationship with the rate of rotation of the rotor 4. Brake drums 39 and 40 are included.
