Abstract

1,001,589. Differential gears. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. July 20, 1964 [Aug. 1, 1963], No. 30506/63. Heading F2D. [Also in Division B7] In a tractor transmission wherein a pair of road-wheels is driven through a planetary bevel differential gear 18 and bevel gearing 21, 20 by a variable-stroke hydraulic motor 16 energized through a valve-block 17 by a variable-stroke engine-driven pump 15, differential action is prevented by clutching the side gears 24 to the planet carrier 18 by fluid pressure operated multi-disc friction clutches 26. Each clutch 26 is engaged by applying fluid pressure from the engine-driven pump through a manually controlled valve (not shown) to a respective annular piston 31 acting on a pressure plate 29 through a thrust race 33, ring 30, and push-rods 28. Thrust blocks 34 space the side gears 24.
