Abstract

Diazonium compounds of formulae <FORM:1001493/C2/1> wherein R1 is alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R2 is alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms or aralkyl with up to 10 carbon atoms or R1 and R2 complete a heterocyclic nucleus, 2 is alkoxy, aralkoxy, aryloxy, or the group <FORM:1001493/C2/2> wherein R4 and R5 are alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms or complete a heterocyclic nucleus, X is hydrogen, halogen or methyl, n is 1 to 4, m is 0 or 1 and the sum of n and m is at least 2 and Y is an anion are prepared by:-(1) when Z is alkoxy, aryloxy or aralkoxy and R1 and R2 are alkyl, etherizing o-nitro-phenol with a halogenated dialkyl or alkyl-aryl ether, reducing the resultant nitro compound to the amine, doubly alkylating the amino group and then introducing a diazonium group in the para position to the dialkylamino group; (2) when Z is carbonamide, reacting 2-chloro-5-nitrophenol with chloroacetic acid, exchanging the chlorine atom of the resultant chloronitrophenol ether for a heterocyclic base, the base also replacing the acid group, and then reducing and diazotizing the nitro group; (3) when R1 and R2 complete a heterocyclic nucleus, reacting 2-chloro-5-nitrophenol with a halogenated dialkyl ether or halogenated alkyl aryl ether or with a o -chloro-o 1-dialkylamino alkane to give an etherified product, exchanging the chlorine atom for a heterocyclic base, and then reducing and diazotizing the nitro group. Specified diazonium compounds are those wherein R1 is methyl or ethyl, R2 is ethyl or benzyl or R1 and R2 complete a pyrolidine, piperazine, morpholine or thiomorpholine ring, 2 is methyl-, ethyl-, benzyl- or phenyl-oxy, R4 and R5 are ethyl or propyl or complete a pyrolidone, piperazine or mopholine ring.
