Abstract
1,001,432. Door operating mechanisms. B. KOFYAN. July 9, 1963 [July 24, 1962], No. 27185/63. Heading E2M. Electro-mechanical operating apparatus for sliding door comprises an electric motor mounted on a fixed slide and having a toothed wheel engageable with a chain or rack secured to the door, rotation of said wheel first causing a limited movement of said motor along the slide, which movement caused the door to lift, and then causes the door to slide longitudinally to its open position. As shown a motor 4 is mounted for sliding movement along a bar 6 between end stops 10 and 10<SP>1</SP> and devices a toothed wheel 3 engaging a chain 5 which is carried by and secured to a rail 17, the latter being fixed to the door A. To open the door, the motor is energized to drive wheel 3 in an anticlockwise manner, and, due to the inertia of the door A, the motor 4 moves to the left along bar 6. During this movement a cam depending from the motor strikes a projection 1a of a lever assembly 1, rotation of which is transmitted via links 7 and 7<SP>1</SP>, levers 12, 12<SP>1</SP> and 12<SP>2</SP> and a shaft 14 to a shaft 25. Eccentrics (Fig. 6, not shown) as secured to the latter in such a manner as to raise the door when the shaft is rotated. Since the bottom edge of the door is no longer in contact with its frame the door is moved to its open position where it operates a switch to de-energize motor 4. At the completion of the sliding movement of the motor 4, i.e. when the motor abuts stop 10<SP>1</SP>, a spring-loaded lever 8 which was previously been held under stop 10 rotates so that the end 8<SP>3</SP> of the lever engages the inside face of the stop 10, thus retaining the motor in position. To close the door motor 4 is re-energized to drive wheel 3 in a clockwise direction. As the door approaches its closed position a plate 11 on which the lever assembly 1 is mounted strikes the end 8<SP>2</SP> of the lever 8 so that the opposite end of the lever is rotated out of engagement with stop 10 and the motor is free to move along slide 6. During this return movement the cam 2 strikes a further projection 1c of the lever assembly 1 which rotates to lower the door. A further dooroperated switch is provided to de-energise the motor when the door reaches its closed position. Manual operation of the door may be effected by pivoting a roller 16, which is pivotally mounted on the motor assembly, out of engagement with the underside of rail 17 so that the motor 4 pivots about the slide bar 6 and the wheel 3 disengages from chain 6 (Fig. 5, not shown). A lever M is provided for manually raising and lowering the door.
