Abstract

Cyclododecatriene-1,5,9 is obtained by cyclopolymerization of butadiene in the presence of at least one dialkyl aluminium chloride and at least one compound of the formula Ti(NR2)n-Cl4-n in which R is alkyl or aryl and n is an integer from 1-4 in catalytic amounts. The ratio of titanium to aluminium may be 1 : 1-100. The catalyst may be formed in an inert solvent or the butadiene reactant or cyclododecatriene product. Reaction is effected at 0-150 DEG C. and sufficient pressure to maintain the liquid phase. Mixtures of trans, trans, trans and trans, trans, cis isomers are formed.ALSO:A catalyst for the conversion of butadiene to cyclododecatriene comprises a mixture of a dialkyl aluminium chloride and a compound of the formula Ti(NR2)nCl4-n in which R is alkyl or aryl and n is an integer of 1-4. The ratio of titanium to aluminium may be 1 : 1-100. The catalyst components may be premixed in an inert hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon solvent.
