In a method and apparatus for dispensing hot-melt materials, particularly adhesives, material is placed in a V- shaped hopper 1 having resilient sides and containing a high-temperature radiation-permeable open-ended tube 5 spaced from the hopper bottom 3 and filter 3<SP>1</SP> and within which is a longitudinal far-infra-red quartz tube 9, the melted material flowing through outlet 3<SP>11</SP> to a manifold 13 from which pumps 15 withdraw it for distribution through e.g. a nozzle 17. A blower 19 forces hot air through 5, 21, 23, which air may be further heated, e.g. at 25 to maintain the right temperature at the manifold, pump, nozzle and other distribution points. The heaters are controlled thermostatically to prevent scorching, a time-delay relay prevents operation of the pump through a magnetic clutch until the temperature has reached a certain value, visual or audible alarm and failure point indicator are incorporated in the control circuit and air circulating failure circuit cut-out is provided.
