Abstract

A utility vehicle, such as a tractor, having a hand-operated driver interface 10 is provided. The driver interface, which may be in the form of a multi-function control handle, is moveably attached to a control consol 16 situated alongside a driver's seat 18. The driver interface is moveable relative to the control consol in both a longitudinal and a transverse direction, either side of a central operating position, in a mutually exclusive manner. The driver interface is biased towards the central operating position from a longitudinal displacement and is releasably latched in a transversely displaced position. Preferably, longitudinal movement of the interface controls the speed of the vehicle; transverse movement of the interface towards the driver's seat changes the driving direction with regard to forward and reverse; and transverse movement of the interface away from the driver's seat puts the vehicle transmission into neutral and activates a parking brake. The driver interface may comprise a hand grip (12, fig. 1) connected to a stem (14, fig. 1) guided by a cross-shaped slot, where the hand grip may include a joystick (26, fig. 1) and the interface may include a plurality of fingertip operated levers (32A-D, fig. 1).
