Description
The present invention relates to the technical field of imaging, and in particular the field of projection of information or images.
The invention relates more particularly to an image generation device comprising:
- a light source producing a light beam,
- a screen crossed by the light beam and configured to modify the light beam so as to form an image, and
- a transparent device traversed by the light beam and comprising a first diopter attached to the screen, a second diopter and a edge.
The invention finds a particularly advantageous application in driving assistance systems for motor vehicles.
We know of vehicles equipped with a head-up display (“head-up display” or HUD in English) intended to display a virtual image to an individual.
A head-up display conventionally comprises an image generation device configured to generate an image and an optical system configured to transmit the generated image towards a partially reflective plate.
This head-up display can be either a “windshield” head-up display or a “combiner” head-up display.
In the first case, the partially reflective blade is formed by the windshield of the vehicle, and the projection of the virtual image to the occupant of the vehicle is therefore ultimately carried out by optical reflection on the windshield.
In the second case, the partially reflective blade is an independent element (sometimes called combiner) of the head-up display.
Most image generation devices used today include a light source backlighting a screen suitable for generating the images. This screen absorbs part of the light that backlights it, which causes it to heat up thermally.
In order to cool the screen and prevent damage, it is known to place a transparent ceramic blade on the screen. Ceramic being a good thermal conductor, it allows heat to be evacuated.
According to the invention, an image generation device is proposed as defined in the introduction, in which the transparent device comprises an optical element positioned on the edge and configured to prevent incident light having been reflected by the second diopter inwards. of the transparent device, to be reflected by the edge of the transparent device.
The use of a transparent device attached to the screen is particularly advantageous, particularly to evacuate heat from the screen. However, in the absence of specific measurement (that is to say for example without the aforementioned optical element), this configuration generates parasitic images visible to the user.
Indeed, in the absence of particular measurement, part of the light rays coming from the screen and passing through the transparent device undergo internal reflections in the transparent device. When the rays emerge after several reflections, they follow the optical path of the head-up display and thus create parasitic images.
The optical element, here configured to prevent one of these parasitic reflections, makes it possible to eliminate parasitic images.
The transparent device can be made of transparent ceramic.
Furthermore, the edge of the transparent device may comprise four sides, and the transparent device may then comprise four optical elements, one optical element being positioned on each side.
In one embodiment, the optical element is configured to transmit incident light to the exterior of the transparent device.
The invention proposes that the optical element can comprise at least one face comprising an anti-reflective treatment.
Furthermore, said optical element can be formed by a beveled end of a part of the edge of the transparent device.
In another embodiment, the optical element is configured to trap incident light.
The invention proposes that the optical element can be an additional part mounted on the edge.
In particular, said optical element may comprise at least two components arranged so that the components are juxtaposed according to the thickness of the transparent device.
Furthermore, said components can be prisms such that their section in the plane tangent to the width of the slice is a triangle.
According to one embodiment, the components are geometric shapes such that their section in the plane tangent to the width of the slice is a closed surface comprising two curved segments meeting at a point, each having a curvature and whose curvatures are of the same meaning.
The invention also relates to a head-up display comprising an image generation device as described above and an optical system configured to transmit, towards a partially reflective blade, the image generated by the generation device image.
The different characteristics, variants and embodiments of the invention can be associated with each other in various combinations as long as they are not incompatible or exclusive of each other.
In addition, various other characteristics of the invention emerge from the appended description made with reference to the drawings which illustrate non-limiting forms of embodiment of the invention and where:

Le second dioptre 232 est le dioptre le plus éloigné de l’écran 220.The blade 230 is here a blade with a parallel face made of transparent ceramic and makes it possible to cool the screen 220. The blade 230 comprises, in this example, two diopters 231, 232. The first diopter 231 is the one glued to the screen 220 thanks to to a layer of glue 240. The second diopter 232 is the diopter furthest from the screen 220.
The light source 210 is placed behind the screen 220 so as to backlight it. The light source 210 generates light rays. Conventionally, the light rays pass through the screen 220 so as to form an image. The light rays are then transmitted by the glue layer 240 and by the blade 230, that is to say by the two diopters 231, 232 of the blade.
The light rays having followed these alternative optical paths have suffered an optical delay and will create parasitic images compared to the light rays having followed the classic optical path.
The motor vehicle is represented by a windshield 10 and a hood. The individual 20 observes, through the windshield 10 of the vehicle, a virtual image 11. In practice, the image 11 is formed at an image distance from the individual 20 which is generally between 1.5 meters and 15 meters, preferably between 5 meters and 10 meters.
The projected images may include, for example, information relating to the vehicle (speed, engine speed, fuel level, distance from other vehicles, etc.), its environment (presence of pedestrians, traffic signs, etc.), or even instructions as to the route to be followed by the vehicle (in association with an on-board navigation system for example).
The light beam is reflected by the folding mirror 120 towards the reflector 130. The light beam is then reflected again (by the reflector 130) into an image light beam which is then itself reflected by the windshield 10 of the vehicle towards the individual 20. The optical system combined with the windshield thus makes it possible to form a virtual image visible to the individual 20.
L’enveloppe extérieure 150 comprend ici une paroi 153 et un hublot 152.The different elements, here the image generation device 110, the folding mirror 120 and the reflector 130, are housed in an outer envelope 150. The outer envelope 150 here comprises a wall 153 and a porthole 152.
The porthole 152 allows the light beam reflected by the reflector 130 to pass to the windshield 10. The porthole 152 is preferably made of plastic. Alternatively, the porthole 152 can be made of glass.
In order to prevent the entry of external light, the wall 153 is opaque. It thus makes it possible to limit the propagation of stray light. The wall 153 can be made of plastic or metal. Here, it advantageously includes an upper part (located on the windshield side) made of plastic and a lower part (located opposite the windshield) made of metal.
The reflector 130 is an optical part with an optically active face and here a substrate having a non-zero thickness which serves as a support for the optically active face. The active face is here turned towards a folding mirror 120 to intercept the reflected light beam coming from the folding mirror 120. This active face is at least partially reflective.
Preferably, a power mirror is used in the invention as reflector 130. For example, the power mirror may have a shape specifically designed to produce certain effects, for example to compensate for the deformation linked to the reflection on the windshield (we sometimes use in this case the English name "freeform" to qualify the power mirror). The surface equation of the active face is then not a simple sphere (spherical mirror) but can be written very simply in the form of a polynomial surface (aspherical) in x and y, possibly added with a term “conical”, of revolution or not. In other embodiments, the surface equations can be written using Zernike or Chebyshev polynomials.
In practice, the shape (ie the geometry) of the surface of the optically active face of the reflector can be designed and calculated by optical simulation based on:
- different optical parameters: size (width and height) and projection distance of the virtual image (eye-image distance), size and position of the image generation unit 110, curvature of the windshield 10, etc. … ; And
- mechanical constraints: maximum size of the display 100, position and inclination of the windshield 10, average position of the individual 20 in the passenger compartment, position of the eyebox, etc.
The image generation device 110 comprises at least one light source 111, a screen 112 backlit by this light source 111, and a transparent device 113.
Le faisceau lumineux traverse ensuite le dispositif transparent 113.The light source 111 produces a light beam, which passes through the screen 112 in order to form an image. The light beam then passes through the transparent device 113.
The light source 111 here is a light emitting diode (or LED for “Light Emitting Diode”).
The screen 112 here is a TFT-LCD type screen module which is a type of thin-film transistor liquid crystal screen (“TFT-LCD” means “Thin-Film Transistors-Liquid Crystal Display” in English ).
For example, the screen 112 includes elements with variable transmittance configured to represent a scene and so that when the light rays pass through the screen, they are modulated (in light intensity) so as to create the image.
The image generation device 110 is generally connected to a control module (not shown) of the screen 112, this control module receiving signals from the on-board computer (not shown) of the vehicle and controlling in consequently the screen to adjust the transmittance of the elements with variable transmittance and thus produce the light beam corresponding to the desired light scene.
En d’autres termes, lorsque l’écran 112 est piloté par le module de commande, le dispositif de génération d’images 110 génère un faisceau lumineux représentant la scène à projeter dans le champ de vision de l’individu 20.In other words, when the screen 112 is controlled by the control module, the image generation device 110 generates a light beam representing the scene to be projected into the field of vision of the individual 20.
Alternatively, the transparent device 113 can be kept in contact with the screen 112 by mechanical support.
Le dispositif transparent 113 peut également protéger l’écran 112.The transparent device 113 makes it possible, for example, to absorb the heat from the screen 112. The transparent device 113 can also protect the screen 112.
However, one could provide, as a variant or in addition, a transparent device of the same type at the level (or near) of the face of entry of the light into the screen 112, that is to say of the face turned towards the light source 111.
The transparent device 113 is here made of transparent ceramic. For example, the transparent device 113 is obtained by means of a sintering process. Such a sintering process is for example of the "hot isostatic pressing" type (or HIP for "Hot Isostatic Pressing") or of the "flash sintering" type (or SPS for "Spark Plasma Sintering").
En variante, le dispositif transparent 113 peut être en plastique ou en verre (BK7 par exemple).Alternatively, the transparent device 113 can be made of plastic or glass (BK7 for example).
Le dispositif transparent 113 comprend un premier dioptre 115 (accolé à l’écran 112), un second dioptre 116 et une tranche 117.The transparent device 113 comprises a first diopter 115 (attached to the screen 112), a second diopter 116 and a edge 117.
The edge 117 can be defined as the external surface of the transparent device 113 formed in the thickness L of the transparent device 113 in a dimension transverse to its diopters 115, 116.
Preferably, the transparent device 113 is of parallelepiped shape.
The transparent device 113 may have four edge portions 117 (or four sides). For example, a portion of slice 117 can be defined as a continuous portion of slice 117 between two edges.
This shape is not limiting, and the transparent device 113 could for example be cylindrical and thus have a single edge portion.
The transparent device 113 is here a blade with flat and parallel faces.
The thickness L of the transparent device 113 can vary depending on the material and the function of the transparent device 113. The transparent device 113 here has a thickness L of approximately 2 mm. For example, the transparent device 113 could have a thickness L of up to several centimeters.
The transparent device 113 may comprise an optical element 114 on each wafer portion 117.
In order to eliminate parasitic images, the optical element 114 is configured to prevent incident light having been reflected by the second diopter 116 towards the interior of the transparent device 113, from being reflected by the edge 117.
Selon un premier mode de réalisation, l’élément optique 114 est configuré pour transmettre la lumière incidente vers l’extérieur du dispositif transparent 113.According to a first embodiment, the optical element 114 is configured to transmit the incident light to the outside of the transparent device 113.
For example, in order to avoid internal reflections, the optical element 114 may include at least one face having an anti-reflection treatment.
The optical element 114 can be confused with the transparent device 113, and the edge 117 of the transparent device 114 can then include an anti-reflection treatment.
All slice parts 117 can be bevel cut.
The bevel can be cut at an angle α. In order for the bevel to prevent internal reflections in the transparent device 113 and therefore the generation of parasitic images, the angle of the bevel α must respect the following condition:
where tan is the tangent function and d is a margin distance provided between the useful area Z of the screen and the edge of the screen.
For example, the bevel angle α is between 10 and 25 degrees.
Alternatively, the optical element 114 can be an independent object fixed to a part of the upper edge of the transparent device 113. The optical element 114 is then an additional part.
For example, the optical element 114 can be a prism positioned on the edge 117 of the transparent device 113 configured to respect the same conditions as the bevel, explained above.
L’élément optique 114 peut être fixé mécaniquement ou collé au dispositif transparent 113.The optical element 114 can be mechanically attached or glued to the transparent device 113.
According to a second embodiment, the optical element 114 is configured to trap incident light.
As shown in Figures 4, 5 and 6, the optical element 114 can comprise at least two components arranged so that the elements are side by side according to the thickness L of the transparent device 113.
The transparent device 117 can for example comprise between 2 and 20 components depending on the width L of the transparent device 113.
For example, a component might be around 0.5mm thick. The optical element 114 may comprise four components for a transparent device 2 mm thick or forty components for a transparent device 20 mm thick.
Préférentiellement, l’élément optique 114 et ses composants sont continus sur la longueur de la tranche du dispositif transparent 113.Preferably, the optical element 114 and its components are continuous along the length of the edge of the transparent device 113.
Les composants de l’élément optique 114 peuvent être taillés directement dans le dispositif transparent 113.The components of the optical element 114 can be cut directly into the transparent device 113.
Alternatively, the components of the optical element 114 can be independent objects and fixed on a part of the edge of the transparent device 113. The optical element 114 is then an additional part.
L’élément optique 114 peut être fixé mécaniquement ou collé au dispositif transparent 113.The optical element 114 can be mechanically attached or glued to the transparent device 113.
The components are advantageously configured to trap part of the stray light in the structure of the optical element 114.
The two angles between each of the curved segments and the straight segment can be between 40° and 60°. The angle values depend on the mechanical constraints (angle of the incident light β, value of the useful zone Z, vehicle configuration, etc.) and are given for information only.
Each wafer portion 117 may have an optical element 114 using a different configuration.
The present invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described and represented, but those skilled in the art will be able to make any variation consistent with their spirit.
