Description
The present invention relates to a tire whose crown reinforcement is simplified compared to usual designs. Although not limited to this type of application, the invention is more particularly described with reference to a radial tire intended to be mounted on a passenger vehicle or light truck.
By convention, we consider a reference frame (O, OX, OY, OZ), whose center O coincides with the geometric center of the tire, the circumferential directions OX, axial OY, and radial OZ respectively designate a direction tangent to the rolling surface of the tire according to the direction of rotation, a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the tire, and a direction orthogonal to the axis of rotation of the tire.
By radially interior, respectively radially exterior, we mean closer, respectively further from the axis of rotation of the tire.
By axially interior, respectively axially exterior, we mean closer, respectively further from the equatorial plane of the tire, the equatorial plane of the tire being the plane passing through the middle of the tread of the tire and perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the tire. pneumatic.
The constitution of the tire is usually described by a representation of its constituents in a meridian plane, that is to say a plane containing the axis of rotation of the tire. Such a choice is motivated by, as a first approximation, the axisymmetry of the geometry of the tire around its axis of rotation.
A tire comprises a crown, intended to come into contact with a ground via a tread, the two axial ends of which are connected via two sidewalls to two beads ensuring the mechanical connection between the tire and the rim on which it is intended to be mounted.
A radial tire further comprises a reinforcing reinforcement, consisting of a crown reinforcement, radially internal to the tread, and a carcass reinforcement, radially internal to the crown reinforcement.
The crown reinforcement of a radial tire comprises a superposition of crown layers extending circumferentially, radially outside the carcass reinforcement. Each top layer is made up of reinforcements parallel to each other and coated with a polymeric material of the elastomer or elastomeric mixture type. The assembly consisting of the crown reinforcement and the tread is called the crown.
The carcass reinforcement of a radial tire concerned by the invention usually comprises at least one carcass layer consisting of metallic or textile reinforcing elements each coated in an elastomeric coating mixture. In at least one carcass layer, the reinforcing elements are substantially parallel to each other and form, with the circumferential direction, an angle of between 85° and 95°. Said at least one layer of carcass comprises a main part, connecting the two beads together and wraps, in each bead, around an annular reinforcing structure, which is most often a rod.
Pour certaines applications, les élastomères considérés peuvent également comprendre des thermoplastiques (TPE).By elastomeric mixture is meant an elastomeric material obtained by mixing its various constituents. An elastomeric mixture conventionally comprises an elastomeric matrix with at least one diene elastomer of natural or synthetic rubber type, at least one reinforcing filler of carbon black type and/or silica type, a crosslinking system most often based on sulfur, and protection officers. For certain applications, the elastomers considered may also include thermoplastics (TPE).
By the expression "based on" composition is meant a composition comprising the mixture and/or the reaction product of the different constituents used, certain of these basic constituents being capable of, or intended to, react with each other, at less in part, during the different phases of manufacturing the composition, in particular during its crosslinking or vulcanization.
By the expression “part by weight per hundred parts by weight of elastomer” (or pce), it is meant for the purposes of the present invention, the share, by mass per hundred parts of elastomer present in the rubber composition considered. .
An elastomeric mixture can be characterized mechanically, in particular after cooking, by its dynamic properties, such as a dynamic shear modulus G*= (G'2+G''2)1/2, where G' is the elastic modulus of shear rigidity and G'' the viscous shear modulus, and a dynamic loss Tanδ=G''/G'. The dynamic shear modulus G* and the dynamic loss Tanδ are measured on a Metravib VA4000 type viscoanalyzer, according to the ASTM D 5992-96 standard. The response of a sample of vulcanized elastomeric mixture having the shape of a sinusoidal stress in alternating simple shear is recorded, at a frequency of 10Hz, at a temperature of 100°C. We carry out with a sweep of deformation amplitude from 0.1% to 50% (forward cycle), then from 50% to 0.1% (return cycle). For the forward cycle, we indicate the maximum value of tan(δ) observed, denoted Tan(δ) max .
An elastomeric mixture can also be characterized by static mechanical properties. Tensile tests make it possible to determine the elastic stresses and the breaking properties. Unless otherwise indicated, they are carried out in accordance with the French standard N F T 46-002 of September 1988. The so-called "nominal" secant moduli (or apparent stresses, in MPa) are measured in second elongation (i.e. after an accommodation cycle). 10% elongation (denoted "MA10") and 100% elongation ("MA100"). All these traction measurements are carried out under normal conditions of temperature (23±2°C) and hygrometry (50±5% relative humidity), according to the French standard NF T 40-101 (December 1979). We also measure the stresses at break (in MPa) and the elongations at break (in %), at a temperature of 23°C.
A person skilled in the art, a tire designer, knows that the expected functions of a tire are at least three in number. This first involves carrying the load, resulting from the mass of the vehicle and all overloads linked to the dynamic movements of the vehicle as well as possible aerodynamic overloads at high speed. Secondly, it is necessary to be able to guide the vehicle on the trajectories decided by the driver, and finally it is necessary to transmit to the ground the acceleration or braking efforts decided by the driver.
The crown frame is an essential element that contributes decisively to the three functions of carrying, guiding, and transmitting. In usual design, said crown reinforcement with at least two crossed metal layers surrounds the carcass reinforcement to provide the tire with the solidity necessary to assume its carrying function.
The Guiding function is also known as ″road behavior″. These are the responses of a vehicle/tyre assembly to multiple requests from the driver (steering, acceleration, braking, etc.). Behavior is essential both in terms of safety for the stability of the vehicle but also for driving pleasure.
The tire plays a key role in road behavior because it ensures, at the end of the chain, the transmission of forces between the vehicle and the ground in order to maintain the trajectory defined by the driver.
When turning, for the vehicle to remain on a trajectory, it is necessary to generate a force equivalent (but in the opposite direction) to the centrifugal force which tends to eject the vehicle from the trajectory. This lateral force must be generated by the 4 tires of the vehicle to overcome the centrifugal force.
The deformation of the rubber blocks in contact with the ground generates a lateral force. The mechanism that allows the tire to deform the rubber blocks when cornering is drift. Drift is the angle between the direction of the wheel and the path followed by the vehicle. When cornering, this angle is not zero in order to allow the tire to deform the rubber blocks of the tread and thus generate the necessary lateral forces.
La rigidité de dérive transversale s’exprime en Newton par degré (N/°).Transverse drift stiffness is the variation in transverse forces generated in the contact area of the moving tire crushed by the load carried, as a function of the drift angle applied to the tire. The transverse drift stiffness is expressed in Newtons per degree (N/°).
For low drift angles, that is to say angles less than 10°, the transverse force, in direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the tire, is proportional to the drift angle. The transverse drift stiffness is equal to this proportionality coefficient.
Transverse drift stiffness is an essential mechanical property which connects the tire to the vehicle and which determines the quality of the vehicle's behavior on the road.
The crown reinforcement comprising two layers of crossed reinforcements contributes to the development of the shear stresses of the tread mixtures in the contact area of the tire with the rolling ground, and therefore of the drift rigidity.
Often, tires of usual design include in addition to the two crossed crown layers, an additional hooping layer comprising textile reinforcements, most often polyamide (nylon) which hoops the two metal working layers. The reinforcements of the hooping layer make an angle with the circumferential direction included in the interval [-2.5°; 2.5°]. This shrinking of the working frame provides circumferential rigidity to resist centrifugal forces and to allow the tire to reach high rotational speeds without damage.
It follows that the crown reinforcement of a radial tire of usual design generally comprises at least three crown layers. Generally speaking, more than 200 materials are used in the composition of a passenger tire.
There is therefore a need to simplify the design of tires, that is to say, to design lighter tires which require less raw materials and energy to transform them, which last longer to get the most out of them; design tires with low rolling resistance that save fuel while continuing to improve their grip and road behavior.
In document EP2331350B1, an approach to the design of the crown of a tire is presented where the number of layers of the crown is reduced, limited to the shrinking of the carcass reinforcement by a single composite complex strip.
The principle of the composite complex strip according to document EP2331350B1 is to replace the two crossed top layers by circumferentially wrapping a composite complex strip around the carcass reinforcement. Said complex composite strip is formed of two layers of reinforcements coated in an elastomeric mixture.
The inventors have set themselves the objective of making changes to this simplified crown solution to improve the endurance of a passenger tire when it is inflated, mounted on a rim, loaded by the mass carried and centrifuged at speeds greater than 180 km/h.
deux bourrelets destinés à être montés sur une jante, deux couches de flancs reliées aux bourrelets, un sommet comportant une bande de roulement destinée à entrer en contact avec un sol, le sommet ayant un premier côté relié à l’extrémité radialement extérieure de l’une des deux couches de flancs et ayant un deuxième côté relié à l’extrémité radialement extérieure de l’autre des deux couches de flancs ;
une armature de carcasse comprenant au moins une couche de carcasse s'étendant depuis les deux bourrelets à travers les couches de flancs jusqu'au sommet;
ladite couche de carcasse comportant une pluralité d'éléments de renforcement de carcasse et étant ancrée dans les deux bourrelets par un retournement autour d’une tringle de renforcement, de manière à former dans chaque bourrelet une partie principale et un retournement;
le sommet comprenant une armature de travail constituée par au moins un enroulement circonférentiel en spirale d’une bande complexe radialement extérieurement autour de l’armature de carcasse, ladite bande complexe étant composée de deux couches constituées de renforts en textile continus passant d’une couche à l’autre, lesdits renforts étant parallèles dans une couche, et croisés d’une couche à l’autre, avec des angles par rapport à la direction circonférentielle identiques en valeur absolue, lesdits renforts étant enrobés dans un mélange élastomérique ;
This goal was achieved by the design of a tire for a motor vehicle comprising:
two beads intended to be mounted on a rim, two layers of sidewalls connected to the beads, a top comprising a tread intended to come into contact with a ground, the top having a first side connected to the radially outer end of the one of the two sidewall layers and having a second side connected to the radially outer end of the other of the two sidewall layers;
a carcass reinforcement comprising at least one carcass layer extending from the two beads through the sidewall layers to the top;
said carcass layer comprising a plurality of carcass reinforcement elements and being anchored in the two beads by an inversion around a reinforcing rod, so as to form in each bead a main part and an inversion;
the top comprising a working reinforcement constituted by at least one circumferential spiral winding of a complex strip radially externally around the carcass reinforcement, said complex strip being composed of two layers consisting of continuous textile reinforcements passing from one layer to the other, said reinforcements being parallel in one layer, and crossed from one layer to another, with angles relative to the circumferential direction identical in absolute value, said reinforcements being coated in an elastomeric mixture;
said complex band having an axial width Lband of between [25 mm; 40mm], and the radial distance between the centers of two adjacent reinforcements of a first radially inner layer and a second radially outer layer of the complex strip is less than one and a half times the diameter of a reinforcement of said layers,
said tire being characterized in that the textile reinforcements of the layers of the complex strip have an extension modulus measured at 2% deformation of between [10 GPa; 100 Gpa], and in that the axial rigidity Ra of each layer of said complex strip is included in the interval [3500 N/mm; 16500 N/mm], the axial rigidity being calculated from the section S of a reinforcement in mm 2 , its extension modulus E2, at 2% deformation in MPa, and the density of reinforcements, De, in the layer according to the formula Ra = E2 x S x De.
A tire of the invention is distinguished from usual designs by the presence of a crown reinforcement resulting from the circumferential spiral winding of a complex strip around the carcass reinforcement. The invention meets the inventors' objective of simplification by replacing the two top layers, and the additional hooping layer of usual pneumatic solutions, with a complex strip wound around the carcass reinforcement.
The width of the complex strip and the reinforcements composing it must satisfy well-defined mechanical and geometric conditions for the invention to work.
According to the inventors, the mechanical properties of the reinforcements of each layer of the complex strip must be defined so as to allow the achievement of a mechanically coupled state in each complex strip.
In the context of the invention, a mechanically coupled state in a complex strip of at least two layers each comprising reinforcements coated in an elastomeric mixture is defined on an inflated tire, mounted on a rim, by being subjected to a pressure of inflation of 250kPa. Under these stress conditions, the mechanically coupled state in a complex strip is reached when the shear deformations in the axial and radial directions in the elastomeric mixture located radially between the reinforcements are constant over the entire axial width of the stack. Under these conditions, the extension rigidity in the reinforcements is maximum, and the complex band contributes to the maximum of its potential to the functioning of the vertex.
A first condition for achieving mechanical coupling in the complex strip is to have the radial distance between the centers of two adjacent reinforcements of a first and a second layer of the complex strip, less than one and a half times the diameter d 'a reinforcement of said layers. A second condition is to have sufficient axial width of the complex strip to allow coupling to be achieved. According to the inventors, in the context of passenger and light truck tires, a width of the complex band is between [25mm; 40mm] is sufficient.
The mechanical coupling criterion of the layers of a complex strip is expressed as a function of the diameter of the reinforcements of said layers. To determine the diameter of a textile reinforcement, a device is used which, using a receiver composed of an optical collector system, a photodiode and an amplifier, makes it possible to measure the shadow of the reinforcement illuminated by a LASER beam of parallel light with a precision of 0.1 micrometer. Such a device is marketed for example by the company Z-Mike, under the reference “1210”. The method consists of fixing on a motorized mobile table, under a standard pretension of 0.5 centinewton per tex (cN/tex), a sample of the reinforcement whose diameter we wish to measure, having undergone prior conditioning. Integral to the mobile table, the reinforcement is moved perpendicular to the shadow measurement system at a speed of 25 mm/s and cuts the LASER beam orthogonally. At least 200 cast shadow measurements are carried out over a length of 420 mm of cable; the average of these cast shadow measurements represents the diameter of the reinforcement.
In addition to the previous geometric criteria, the mechanical properties of the textile must be taken into account to achieve the tire of the invention. From the stress/strain curve of a chosen textile material, we determine its extension modulus for a deformation of 2%. Said expansion module, according to the inventors, must be included in the interval [10 GPa; 100 Gpa]. This first characteristic allows an initial selection of candidate textiles.
A second characteristic is linked to the capacity of the crown of a tire of the invention to resist traction forces. Taking into account the dimensional diversity of passenger tires, the axial rigidity of a layer of a complex strip is included in the interval [3500 N/mm; 16500 N/mm]. Such a range of variation in axial rigidity makes it possible to cover both small dimensions of 13 inches and larger dimensions beyond 18 inches.
It is known that a passenger tire, mounted on a rim and inflated to an inflation pressure of 250 kPa, is subjected to tensions distributed at the top which depend on the size of the tire. While the state of the art generally recommends using steel metal reinforcements to design the crown of the tire, the inventors have found that a crown with textile reinforcements is also a viable solution when the reinforcements in textile are chosen appropriately to resist tensile forces.
Concerning the supply of the complex strip, it can be previously obtained according to a process consisting of crushing a tube, itself formed by winding in contiguous turns at a given angle relative to the longitudinal direction of the tube, d 'a strip in which reinforcing elements are parallel to each other and to the longitudinal direction of said strip and coated in a polymer mixture. The width of the strip is adjusted according to the angle with which the turns are wound, so as to make the turns contiguous.
When said tube is crushed, the turns being perfectly contiguous, the complex strip obtained is made up of two layers of continuous reinforcing elements passing from one layer to the other, said reinforcing elements being parallel in one layer and crossed from one layer to another with angles relative to the circumferential direction identical in absolute value. The production of a tube with contiguous turns makes it possible to obtain linear reinforcing elements in each of the layers, with the exception of the axial ends of each of the layers, at the level of which the reinforcing elements form loops to ensure the continuity of one layer to another.
In conventionally designed tires, the crown reinforcement is obtained by the successive installation of two crossed layers of reinforcements on a finishing drum. The boundary condition of zero stress at the end of the cut reinforcements of the layers is the cause of high shears at the edges of the layers, which can lead to cracking in the coating mixture of the reinforcements. These cracks propagate in the axial direction and can go so far as to create a splitting of the crown of the tire. The circumferential direction is another possible direction of propagation generating a mechanical loosening of the coating mixture around the reinforcement.
Producing the working frame according to the solution of the invention makes it possible to avoid this damage to the tire. The absence of free edge reinforcements protects the working reinforcement from excessive shearing of layer edges known with conventional tops. Edge mixtures used in conventional crown designs to block excessive layer edge shears are no longer necessary with complex web winding technology, leading to a simplification of the working reinforcement and a concomitant reduction in its cost of obtaining.
The combination of the main characteristics of the invention, namely the appropriate choice in terms of extension modulus of the textile reinforcements, and axial rigidity of a complex strip, and the choice of a sufficient width to allow the mechanical coupling of the two layers of the complex strip, lead to the tire of the invention. This tire is characterized in that its working reinforcement is formed by a circumferential spiral winding of a strip reinforced by textile reinforcements which binds the carcass reinforcement. Other characteristics, or other embodiments of the invention contribute to improving the robustness of the tire of the invention.
Préférentiellement, les renforts des couches d’une bande complexe sont des câbles textiles, chaque câble étant obtenu par un retordage d’une torsion T2 de N brins d’un matériau textile dans une direction donnée D1 (respectivement sens S ou Z), avec N≥1, chaque brin résultant d’un surtordage d’une torsion T1 d’un filé dudit matériau textile, dans une direction opposée D2 (respectivement Z ou S).Preferably, the reinforcements of the layers of a complex strip are textile cables, each cable being obtained by twisting a twist T2 of N strands of a textile material in a given direction D1 (respectively S or Z direction), with N≥1, each strand resulting from overtwisting a twist T1 of a yarn of said textile material, in an opposite direction D2 (respectively Z or S).
The raw material used in the manufacture of a textile cable is the yarn stored by winding on spools of 4 to 12 kg. It is a flat wick composed of continuous elementary filaments, identical both in appearance and in mechanical properties, said wick comes directly from spinning installations. A yarn is generally defined by the nature of the material which constitutes the filaments (PET, Nylon, Rayon, Aramid); its linear mass which is expressed in tex and which represents the mass in grams of 1000 m of yarn; the number of elementary filaments constituting the yarn (200 to 1500), and the degree of intermingling of the elementary filaments.
- au cours d'une première étape, le surtordage, chaque filé ou fibre multifilamentaire (en anglais « yarn ») constitutive du câblé final est tout d'abord individuellement tordue sur elle-même (selon une torsion initiale T1) dans une direction donnée Dl (respectivement sens S ou Z), pour former un brin (en anglais « strand ») dans lequel les filaments élémentaires se voient imposés une déformation en hélice autour de l'axe de fibre (ou axe du brin) ;
- during a first step, overtwisting, each yarn or multifilament fiber (in English “yarn”) constituting the final cable is first individually twisted on itself (according to an initial twist T1) in a given direction Dl (respectively S or Z direction), to form a strand in which the elementary filaments are subjected to a helical deformation around the fiber axis (or axis of the strand);
- then, during a second stage, twisting, several strands, generally two, three or four in number, of identical or different natures in the case of so-called hybrid or composite cables, are then twisted together according to a final twist T2 (which may be equal to or different from T1) in the opposite direction D2 (respectively Z or S direction, according to a recognized nomenclature designating the orientation of the turns according to the crossbar of an S or a Z), to obtain cable (in English “cord”) or final assembly with several strands.
The role of twisting is to adapt the properties of the material in order to create transverse cohesion of the reinforcement, to improve endurance to compressive stresses and to distribute the stresses over all the filaments. This stage of the twisting process is accompanied by a decrease in breaking force and longitudinal modulus and an increase in fatigue endurance with increasing twist. Ultimately, the process is parameterized so as to obtain a compromise between fatigue resistance and breaking force.
The process of obtaining the cable continues with a gluing phase so as to ensure the connection between the cable and the elastomeric mixture which surrounds it. The quality of the textile/mixture interface influences the fatigue performance of the glued cable.
Advantageously, the number N of strands of a textile cable is between 2 and 6, and preferably N = 2. An example of such a cable is the A-140/2 250/300, which means that the cable is composed of the assembly of two aramid strands with a title of 140 tex each. The twist of the yarns during the over-twisting phase is 250 turns per meter, and that of the strands during the twisting phase is 300 turns per meter.
When N=2, an industrial direct wiring process allows overtwisting and retwisting to be carried out in a single manufacturing step, which results in a significant gain in productivity. On the other hand, when N=3, overtwisting and retwisting are done in two separate operations to produce 3-strand constructions.
Advantageously, the overtwisting twist T1, and the twisting twist T2 are identical, and less than or equal to 500 turns per meter, preferably less than or equal to 350 turns per meter, and even more preferably less than or equal to 150 turns per meter.
Preferably, the yarns consist of a hybrid assembly of filaments of textile materials such as a nylon polyamide, a polyester (PET), a rayon, an aramid, and even more preferably, the yarns consist of a homogeneous assembly of aramid filaments.
The mechanical properties of aramid yarns, and in particular their tensile strength, predispose them to use as reinforcements in the crown layers of a tire.
Advantageously, the density of the aramid cables making up the layers of a complex strip is greater than or equal to 55 tex, preferably greater than or equal to 167 tex, and even more preferably greater than or equal to 330 tex, the density being the linear mass of the cable, that is to say the mass expressed in grams per thousand meters of cable.
Advantageously, the secant modulus of the elastomeric mixture for coating the reinforcements of a layer of a complex strip, measured at 10% deformation, is included in the interval [3 MPa; 18MPa]. According to the inventors, by choosing an elastomeric mixture for coating the reinforcements with such a secant modulus (MA10), the mechanical coupling in each layer is facilitated. By combining the thicknesses of the coating mixture layers with the diameter of the reinforcements, we deduce that the radial thickness of a complex strip is included in the interval [0.5 mm; 2 mm], and preferably in the interval [0.5 mm; 1.5 mm], and in a correlated manner the radial thickness of a layer of the complex strip is equal to half the thickness of a complex strip.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the pitch of laying a circumferential spiral winding being the axial distance traveled in one complete turn around the carcass reinforcement, at least one circumferential spiral winding is done according to a pitch installation equal to the width of the complex strip.
In this embodiment, the complex strips are juxtaposed over the entire axial width of the carcass reinforcement, and the working reinforcement is mechanically equivalent to that of a tire where the working layers are laid in the usual way. This is the simplest and least expensive embodiment of the invention. According to another embodiment, the circumferential spiral winding is done according to a laying pitch equal to half the width of the complex strip, which leads to overlapping of the complex strip by creating extra thicknesses when there is superposition of complex bands in the radial direction. The advantage of this embodiment is to ensure greater shrinkage around the carcass reinforcement to improve the endurance of the tire, its strength to carry more loads, and its capacity to create more drift rigidity. With this in mind, the working frame can comprise, alternatively to the previous choice, a second circumferential winding in a spiral around the first winding around the carcass frame.
According to another preferred embodiment of the invention, at least one portion of the working reinforcement comprising two complex strips superimposed radially, the radial distance between the centers of two reinforcements of a layer of a first complex strip and 'a second layer of a second complex strip in contact with one another is less than one and a half times the diameter of a reinforcement of said layers.
In this other embodiment, we seek a second mechanical coupling between the complex strips superimposed radially, so as to use the full potential of rigidity of the working reinforcement. To the coupling inside a complex band is added a second radial coupling between complex bands.
Other embodiments of the invention are accessible thanks to the technology of producing the complex strip which can present material or geometric asymmetries. We can have an embodiment where the radial thickness of the coating mixture of the reinforcements of a radially outermost layer of a complex strip is different from that of the radially innermost layer, or else a mode of embodiment such that the mixture for coating the reinforcements of a layer, radially the outermost, of a complex strip comprises a composition based on a natural or synthetic rubber polyisoprene matrix, a crosslinking system, and a reinforcing filler at an overall rate at most equal to 50 phr, and comprising mainly carbon black at a rate at least equal to 20 phr, and at most equal to 50 phr. In the latter case, the desired performance compromise can lead to a coating mixture mainly loaded with carbon black to, for example, guarantee low electrical resistivity. Another embodiment can be motivated by the search for low hysteresis and lead to a mixture of coating the reinforcements of a layer, radially the outermost, of a complex strip comprising a composition based on a matrix of natural or synthetic rubber polyisoprene, a crosslinking system, and a reinforcing filler at an overall rate of at most equal to 50 phr, and mainly comprising silica at a rate at least equal to 30 phr, and at most equal to 50 pce.
The elastic shear rigidity modulus of the reinforcement coating mixtures is also another lever for shifting the desired performance compromise. The following embodiments may be relevant when the context lends itself to it, where the coating mixtures for the reinforcements of the layers of a complex strip have an elastic shear modulus greater than or equal to 5 MPa, preferably greater than or equal to 7 MPa , and even more preferably greater than or equal to 12 MPa.

Comme il a été dit précédemment, la largeur boudin du pneumatique étudié est de 245 mm.The tire 1 further comprises a crown reinforcement 20 comprising a working reinforcement 22, formed by the circumferential spiral winding of a complex strip 21, with an axial width of 34 mm, around the carcass reinforcement 40 Said complex strip 21 comprises two layers each made up of aramid textile cables, coated in an elastomeric mixture. Each aramid cable is obtained by twisting two strands under a twist of 315 revolutions/meter, each of said two strands coming from over-twisting a yarn composed of a homogeneous set of aramid filaments. The overtwist is also 315 turns per meter. The resulting cable has a diameter of 0.64 mm, and the radial thickness of the coating mix layer around the cables, measured in a meridian plane, is 0.4 mm. The pitch of the cables which represents the axial distance between the centers of two successive cables of a layer is 1 mm. The average angle of the cables at the center of the complex strip with the circumferential direction is 20° in a first layer, and -20° in a second layer. The circumferential spiral winding around the carcass reinforcement 40 starts from a first point P1, and continues in the axial direction to a second point P2, so that the axial distance (P1, P2) is between 75% and 90% of the flange width of tire 1. As said previously, the flange width of the tire studied is 245 mm.
An underlayer 23 consisting of an elastomeric mixture is placed radially outside the crown reinforcement 20. A tread 10 is placed radially on the underlayer 23; it is this tread 10 which ensures contact of the tire 1 with a ground. The tire 1 shown is a “tubeless” tire: it comprises an “inner rubber” 80 of rubber composition impermeable to inflation gas, covering the interior surface of the tire.

Figures 3-A, 3-B illustrate the principle of producing complex strips 21. The complex strip 21 is obtained according to a process which consists of crushing a tube formed by winding into contiguous turns at a given angle relative to the longitudinal direction of the tube, of a strip in which reinforcing elements are parallel to each other and to the longitudinal direction of said strip and coated in a polymer mixture. When the tube is crushed, the turns being perfectly joined, the complex strip 21 obtained is made up of two layers of continuous reinforcing elements (211, 212) passing from one layer to the other.
The production of a tube with contiguous turns makes it possible to obtain linear reinforcing elements in each of the layers, with the exception of the axial ends of each of the layers, at the level of which the reinforcing elements form loops to ensure the continuity of one layer to another.
Leur valeur moyenne mesurée au centre de la bande complexe varie entre 10° et 45°.The alpha angle between the turns and the circumferential direction is between 10° and 45°. In the complex strip, the two layers constituting it are crossed: the angles of the reinforcements with the circumferential direction are opposite from one layer to the other, and identical in absolute value. Their average value measured at the center of the complex band varies between 10° and 45°.

For the size of the tire studied, the breaking force of the 220 aramid cable of assembly A-167/2 315/315 is 480 N, and the pitch between two successive reinforcements is 1 mm. The distance between the centers of the cables of a first layer 211 and a second layer 212 is less than or equal to 3 times the radius of a cable of one of the layers of the complex strip 21 (the diagram is not At scale).
Tire configurations of the invention were tested to clearly highlight the performances provided by the invention. The results of these tests are compared to those obtained for a control tire. The dimension retained is the same, namely 235/55R19 for the witness and the tires of the invention manufactured.
The starting point of the second circumferential spiral winding is diametrically opposite the starting point of the first winding. The laying pitch of each circumferential spiral winding is equal to the axial width of the complex strip. The width of the complex strip is 34 mm, the angles of the layer reinforcements with the circumferential direction are 20° in absolute value on average, measured at the center of the complex strip. The pitch between two consecutive cables of a layer of the complex strip is 1 mm.
Le pas de pose est donc égal à 17 mm.Finally, the second tire P2 in accordance with the invention (not shown) comprises a crown reinforcement which consists of a single circumferential spiral winding of a complex strip 21. The installation pitch of the complex strip is equal to half of its axial width, so that the complex bands overlap radially along the vertex in the axial direction, locally creating extra thicknesses of two radially superimposed complex bands. The installation pitch is therefore equal to 17 mm.
First, an endurance test was carried out on each of the tires. This test consists of measuring the resistance to failure of a tire in contact with a rotating steering wheel and subjected to load, pressure and speed stress cycles.
Rolling resistance tests were carried out according to the ISO 28580 standard. For a tire tested, the result is the rolling resistance coefficient which represents the ratio of the force of resistance to the forward motion of the vehicle by hysteresis of the tires divided by the load carried.
The transverse drift stiffness measurements were measured on dedicated measuring machines such as those marketed by the company MTS.
Rolling noise was measured in accordance with regulation UNECE/R117 of the Economic Council of the United Nations for Europe.
A result greater than (respectively less than) 100% means an improvement (respectively a deterioration) of the performance considered.
The results obtained are summarized in the following table:
The tires of the invention have a higher level of performance than the endurance controls. According to the inventors, the hooping of the carcass reinforcement for winding a complex strip makes it possible to better resist centrifugal forces when rolling the tires of the invention.
The rolling noise is significantly improved compared to the control although the top of the tires of the invention has been significantly modified.
The drift rigidity of the tires of the invention is lower compared to the control.
We observe a gain in the masses of the tires of the invention concomitant with the simplification of the manufacture of the crown reinforcement.
