Description
The present invention relates to the field of autonomous underwater vehicles and associated systems. It finds for particularly advantageous application the management of the position of a fleet of such vehicles.
ETAT DE LA TECHNIQUESTATE OF THE ART
The exploration of the underwater environment is an issue for many underwater exploration applications such as geophysical prospecting, monitoring of marine protected areas, mapping/monitoring of Economic Exclusive Zones (EEZ), location of objects at sea, for example wrecks or black boxes, the assessment of the ecological impact of projects to deploy wind farms at sea or the conservation of archaeological heritage.
For this, there are robots or autonomous underwater vehicles, commonly abbreviated AUV ( Autonomous Underwater Vehicle ), configured to navigate and acquire information in an underwater environment. Today's AUVs generally exhibit modest operational performance. They are still assembled individually by skilled craftsmen and remain very expensive products. Because of their high unit price, they can only be released in small numbers into the ocean for very specific missions in this vast universe where they only represent specific objects.
This small number actually limits the exploration of the immensity represented by underwater environments such as the ocean. To push back this limit of exploration capacity, one can imagine deploying a multitude of AUVs, for example over several square kilometers. We understand that with very expensive AUVs at several tens or even hundreds of thousands of euros, this concept is economically unrealistic.
To do this, a new approach consists of deploying small AUVs at a unit price that is affordable enough to consider deploying hundreds, or even thousands of them simultaneously, to observe underwater environments with an instrument of a size finally adapted to the immensity of the oceans.
L’organisation en flotte de petits AUV nécessite une observation et un contrôle de la position de chacun des AUV.The organization of a fleet of small AUVs requires observation and control of the position of each of the AUVs.
The interrogations of the surface vehicle followed by the receipt of the responses from the submerged AUV transponder allow the surface vehicle to determine the time of flight of the round trip of the acoustic signal and thus the distance separating it from the AUV
However, this solution is not ideal in the presence of a large number of AUVs. Indeed, the width of the spectrum of the range of frequencies available for the propagation of the acoustic signal in the water being limited and for the interrogation-response scheme to work, an acoustic signal specific to each AUV is necessary. Each acoustic signal having a fairly wide band compared to the available frequency range, too few different channels will be available for all AUVs. This solution is therefore only compatible with a small number of AUVs. For a larger number of AUVs, the frequency bands of the different AUVs overlap and it becomes difficult or even impossible to differentiate the AUVs from each other.
An object of the present invention is therefore to propose an improved solution for managing the position of a large number of AUVs and their guidance.
The other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from a review of the following description and the accompanying drawings. It is understood that other benefits may be incorporated.

- a transmission, by a communication module of an underwater vehicle configured to exchange acoustic signals with at least one second surface device (20), possibly a surface device (20) different from that used for the step of synchronization, at a transmission time TE, of a first acoustic signal comprising information on the immersion depth P of the underwater vehicle (11),
- a reception by a communication module of the at least one second surface device (20), of the acoustic signal at a reception time TA,
- the method also comprising the following steps:
- a determination of a first position (61) of the underwater vehicle (11) as a function of the information relating to the depth of immersion P and of a distance D separating the underwater vehicle (11) and the device surface (20), the distance D being a function of the times TE and TA, and/or
- an emission by a communication module of electromagnetic waves by air, preferably a radio communication module of the device, of a first electromagnetic signal, preferably a radio signal, comprising information relating to the times TE and TA and/or to the distance D, and the immersion depth information P,
- an emission by a third surface device (20) of a second acoustic signal comprising repositioning information from the first position (61) of the underwater vehicle (11) to a second position (62), the first, second and third surface device (20) possibly being a single surface device (20),
- reception by the underwater vehicle (11) of the second acoustic signal and actuation of its navigation system to reach the second position (62).
