Abstract
Figure pour l’abrégé : figure 1The invention relates to a gesture detection device (1) for detecting a movement of a joint of the human body, in particular the joints of a hand, an arm, a leg by means of a bending (14) formed of two conductive polymer layers separated by an insulating polymer layer in which are formed one or more free spaces through which the conductive layers are likely to come into contact during a movement of a joint. Description
The subject of the invention is a gesture detection device making it possible to detect a movement of a joint of the human body, in particular of the joints of a hand, of an arm, of a leg, etc. This type of device can be used to control devices remotely.
In recent years, the field of wearable sensing devices has developed rapidly with the appearance of a large number of smart wearable devices. Among them, smart gloves have great potential in the areas of gesture recognition and human-computer or human-machine interaction. The use of smart gloves makes it possible to detect a flexion of the fingers of the wearer of the glove and the recognition of gestures. Smart gloves can thus be used in games, medical rehabilitation, education and other fields.
Most traditional smart gloves are based on micro-electromechanical (MEMS) sensors, which are placed at the knuckles or fingertips of the glove body. This type of sensor has the disadvantage of being rigid, relatively bulky and complex to manufacture: gloves equipped with this type of sensor are relatively expensive to manufacture, large, heavy and not very comfortable.
Other smart gloves include flexible sensors. This is the case, for example, of the gloves described in documents CN109901708A and KR20180117890A. The sensors described in these documents are however relatively complex to produce.
The document CN210017991U describes a glove to the surface of which are attached, on each finger, two conductive flexible sheets of conductive polymer material which come into contact during a movement of the finger. These flexible sheets are applied to the surface of the glove, in the same plane, and are separated in this plane by spaces. When, following a bending of the finger, the flexible sheets come into contact, the value of the resistance between the two sheets decreases. Moreover, the greater the contact between the two sheets, in other words the more the pressure of the sheets against each other increases, the more this resistance value decreases. The device described has the advantage of being simple to make and implement. However, since the sheets of polymer material are arranged in the same plane, for contact to be possible during the movement of the finger, it is necessary to position the sheets of polymer material precisely. It can then be difficult to make a glove that can suit different finger morphologies. In addition, these sheets of polymer material must be placed on the hollow side of the joint in order to function: the material on which they are applied can then form folds when the fingers are flexed, which can disturb the measurement, in particular for small joints.
There is thus still a need for a gesture detection device which is simple to produce, precise and which is suitable for different morphologies.
To this end, the invention relates to a gesture detection device comprising:
- at least one support piece adapted to be applied against the body of a person,
- au moins un circuit électrique,- at least one electrical circuit,
- un capteur de flexion associé à chaque circuit électrique, le capteur de flexion étant solidaire de l’au moins une pièce de support et présentant deux parties conductrices séparées par au moins un espace libre et connectées électriquement au circuit électrique associé, ce dernier étant fermé lorsque les parties sont en contact au travers dudit au moins un espace libre et ouvert lorsque les parties ne sont pas en contact,- a bending sensor associated with each electrical circuit, the bending sensor being integral with the at least one support part and having two conductive parts separated by at least one free space and electrically connected to the associated electrical circuit, the latter being closed when the parts are in contact through said at least one free space and open when the parts are not in contact,
(i) receiving the signal generated by the detection module for each flexion sensor, and (ii) determining from the generated signal received an amplitude of opening of the joint above which the conductive parts of a bending sensor integral with the at least one support piece when the latter is carried by a person.
En outre :Besides :
- chaque partie conductrice d’un capteur de flexion est formée d’une couche élastique en matériau polymère conducteur s’étendant de manière continue sur une longueur prédéterminée dans une première direction, et est solidarisée à l’au moins une pièce de support de sorte que, lorsque la pièce de support est portée par une personne, la première direction s’étend au travers d’un axe de rotation d’une articulation de la personne et la partie conductrice s’étend au-dessus de cette articulation et la traverse,- each conductive part of a bending sensor is formed of an elastic layer of conductive polymer material extending continuously over a predetermined length in a first direction, and is secured to at least one support part so that, when the support part is carried by a person, the first direction extends through an axis of rotation of a joint of the person and the conductive part extends above this joint and crosses it ,
- chaque capteur comprend, dans une deuxième direction perpendiculaire à des plans définis par les couches des parties conductrices, l’assemblage suivant de couches : une première partie conductrice, une couche élastique isolante discontinue suivant la première direction, une deuxième partie conductrice.- each sensor comprises, in a second direction perpendicular to the planes defined by the layers of the conductive parts, the following assembly of layers: a first conductive part, a discontinuous insulating elastic layer along the first direction, a second conductive part.
Thus, in this arrangement, the conductive parts are superposed and separated by an insulating layer of which at least one discontinuity forms the at least one free space through which the conductive parts can be brought into contact. As the conductive parts extend one above the other, in other words in distinct superimposed but distant planes, their deformation by curvature resulting for example from the bending of a finger will cause contact between them, whatever the shape and size of the joint. The dimensions of a free space may be determined by tests by those skilled in the art depending on the joints for which movement is to be detected. By way of example, a free space may have a thickness (measured along the second direction) of at least 0.1 mm and a width (measured perpendicular to the first and second directions) of at least 0.5 mm. We can for example provide a free space with a thickness of 0.5 to 2mm and a width of 0.5 to 7mm.
A bending sensor can have one or more free spaces. In the latter case, these free spaces can be arranged substantially in the extension of each other along the first direction of the sensor. In other words, these spaces then extend along a line. The intensity of the signal generated by the sensor will then be all the more important as the number of contact zones between the conductive parts at the level of these free spaces is high.
By “elastic layer”, is meant a layer made of an elastic material capable of returning to its initial shape following deformation. Typically, a material is said to be elastic when it shrinks in 1 minute to less than 1.5 times its original length after being stretched at room temperature (18 to 29°C) to twice its original length and held for 1 minute before release.
The support piece suitable for being applied against a person's body can be a piece of clothing intended to be slipped over a part of a person's body, preferably directly on the skin or over another piece. fabric-type clothing. It can be a fabric that is part of a garment or a ring or a bracelet. As a variant or in combination, the support part can be a fastening part adapted to be fixed on the body of a person, such as a strap, for example an elastic strap or a strap made of a non-elastic material which can be applied and held against the body by a fastening system such as a Velcro® band, button, buckle, clip, etc. In this case too, the fastening part is preferably fixed directly to the skin, or over a piece of fabric type clothing. Whatever the embodiment, provision may be made to fix a bending sensor to two support parts, for example at opposite ends of the bending sensor in the first direction, or to a single support part, for example over the entire length of the bending sensor (in the first direction).
The flexion sensor can advantageously be secured to a part of the at least one support part intended to be located outside the joint of a person, namely on the side opposite to the hollow of the joint in flexion , when the support piece is worn. In other words, the flexion sensor extends on the side opposite to the hollow of the joint when the at least one support piece is worn. It thus works in extension when the joint is bent. This prevents the signal generated by the detection module from being disturbed by any formation of folds at the level of the joint. Also, when the flexion sensor works in extension, the elasticity of its layers allows these layers to return to their shape before deformation when the joint returns to a rest position in which it is little or not bent.
Several discontinuities can be provided. However, a single discontinuity of the insulating layer may be provided. This discontinuity can advantageously be located at the center or close to the center of the length of the conductive parts.
Advantageously, the conductive parts and the insulating elastic layer may have an elongated shape in the first direction. It may be, for example, strips assembled to each other. The bending sensor can thus be produced with very little material without losing its effectiveness.
Advantageously, the discontinuity or discontinuities of the insulating elastic layer can be completely isolated from the air surrounding the bending sensor. They can for example form a channel defined by the layers of the conductive parts (in particular along the second direction) and by the elastic layer (in particular in the plane thereof). They may for example be hollow veins made during the manufacture of the bending sensor, for example by co-extrusion.
Typiquement, le matériau polymère conducteur pourra présenter une résistivité électrique d’au plus 106Ohm.cm.Advantageously, the conductive polymer material may comprise a matrix of insulating polymer material to which a conductive filler has been added. The insulating polymer material can be chosen from rubber, EPDM (for “Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer”), polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), SBS (for “poly(styrene-butadiene-styrene) ", SEBS (for "poly(styrene-ethylene-butadiene-styrene)"), silicone, polyurethane and a thermoplastic elastomer. The thermoplastic elastomer (also called "TPE") can be a physical mixture of polymers, typically a PP/EPDM mixture (PP: polypropylene) or even a block copolymer (polyamides, polyether-esters, polystyroles, polyurethanes). The conductive filler can comprise powders and/or fibers, which can be metallic or contain (or be formed by) carbon (carbon black, graphite, or the like) The rate of the conductive filler in the polymer matrix may be chosen so as to obtain a conductive polymer material having a sufficiently low electrical resistivity to ensure proper operation of the sensor. Typically, the conductive polymer material may have an electrical resistivity of at most 10 6 Ohm.cm.
The elastic insulating layer can be made of a polymer material chosen from one of the insulating polymer materials listed above. It may or may not be identical to the matrix of insulating polymer material of the conductive polymer material.
The bending sensor can thus be made by molding or by extrusion or even by calendering.
The bending sensor can advantageously be assembled to at least one support part by gluing, sewing, fusion, or any other appropriate method.
The electrical circuit may comprise three electrical conductor wires: two conductor wires each connected to one of the conductive parts and a measurement conductor wire connecting one of the conductive parts to the detection module.
The detection module can be a voltage measurement module, such as a digital voltmeter, for example an analog to digital converter (“CAN” or “ADC” in English for “analog to digital converter”). This detection module can in particular be integrated into the processing means.
Les moyens de traitement peuvent alors être configurés pour :The gesture detection device according to the invention may have a plurality of electrical circuits and associated bending sensors each intended to be positioned above a joint of a person when the at least one support piece is carried by that person. The processing means can then be configured to:
(i) recevoir le signal généré par le module de détection pour chacun de la pluralité de capteurs de flexion,(i) receiving the signal generated by the sensing module for each of the plurality of flex sensors,
(i’) identifier le capteur de flexion à l’origine de chaque signal généré reçu, et(i') identify the bending sensor at the origin of each generated signal received, and
It is thus understood that step (i′) is optional when a single bending sensor is provided.
In general, the processing means can advantageously be configured to determine the amplitude of opening of a joint from a previously established database which, for each flexion sensor positioned above a joint when the at least one support piece is carried and for a plurality of amplitudes of opening of this articulation, associates a signal generated by a flexion sensor with an amplitude of opening of the corresponding articulation. This data table can for example be established by separately recording the signals generated by each flexion sensor during movements of the joint above which a flexion sensor is positioned, the at least one support piece being carried by a person. This database may in particular be established for the person intended to wear the detection device according to the invention.
In general, the processing means can advantageously be configured to (iii) transmit the amplitude of opening of the joint determined in step (ii), for example to a display means and/or to a system separate electronics, for example to order it. The at least one support piece can for example be chosen from a strap, a ring, a bracelet, a glove and a garment covering at least one joint chosen from the shoulder, the elbow, the wrist and the knee.
It may advantageously be made of an elastic material and made in such a way as to match the part of the user's body comprising the joint whose movements are to be detected.
The invention further relates to the use of the gesture detection device according to the invention for controlling a computer or an electronic control system such as for example an electronic control system for a robot, an electronic control system for a virtual reality tool or any other electronic system for controlling an appliance or device that can be controlled remotely.
The invention is now described with reference to the accompanying, non-limiting drawings, in which:

Each bending sensor 14 has two conductive parts 140, 142 separated by a free space 141 and electrically connected to the associated electrical circuit, which is closed when the conductive parts 140, 142 are in contact in this free space and open when the conductive parts 140 , 142 are not in contact. The detection module 16 is then configured to generate, for each bending sensor, a signal proportional to a voltage measured between the conductive parts 140, 142 of the bending sensor.
Ce troisième fil conducteur de mesure pourrait relier l’autre partie conductrice au module de détection 16.The electrical circuit 12 comprises three electrical conductor wires: two conductor wires 120, 122 each connected to one of the conductive parts 140, 142, and a third measurement conductor wire 123 connects one of the conductive parts, here the conductive part 142 , to the detection module 16. This third measurement conductor wire could connect the other conductive part to the detection module 16.
The detection module 16 is also attached to one of the support parts, here the support part 102 located at the level of the palm of the hand. The invention is of course not limited to this configuration.
Each conductive part 140, 142 of a bending sensor is formed of an elastic layer of conductive polymer material extending continuously over a predetermined length L in a first direction D1, and is secured to the support parts 101, 102 so that when these support pieces are worn, the first direction extends through an axis of rotation of a joint and the conductive part extends above this and passes through it. In other words, the first direction of the flexion sensor extends perpendicular, or substantially perpendicular, to the axis of rotation of the joint in question. “Substantially perpendicularly” means a direction deviating by at most 20° or at most 15°, or even at most 10°, from a perpendicular direction.
The bending sensors used in the present invention are formed of superposed layers according to the following assembly in a second direction D2 perpendicular to planes defined by: a first conductive part 140 forming a first conductive layer, an insulating elastic layer 143 discontinuous along the first direction, a second conductive part 142 forming a second conductive layer. The discontinuity of the insulating flexible layer 143 forms the free space 141 mentioned above. This type of sensor can be made simply by molding or even by calendering or extrusion. In the latter case, the different layers can be formed into strips which are then cut to form the bending sensors, the discontinuities possibly being in the form of internal channels, not communicating with the space surrounding the bending sensor.
As shown in the example, the conductive parts and the insulating elastic layer have an elongated shape in the first direction, here a strip shape. This band can be relatively thin, with a width of 4 to 15mm, advantageously from 4 to 10mm and a thickness of 4 to 10mm. Its length may vary depending on the joint whose movement is to be detected. For example, for the metacarpophalangeal joint, the length of the sensor could be 2 to 4 cm. For other smaller joints, this length may be shorter. An appropriate length can be chosen by testing for different types of joint morphologies whose motion is desired to be detected.
This also allows the bending sensor to be produced separately and then assembled to the supporting part(s). In other words, the bending sensor can be produced independently of the support part and be assembled to the latter subsequently. This assembly can be achieved by gluing, fusion, or even sewing, by a Velcro® type strip, or any other mechanical assembly, for example by means of a screw or a compression element.
- déterminer à partir du signal généré reçu une amplitude d’ouverture de l’articulation au dessus de laquelle s’étendent les parties conductrices d’un capteur de flexion solidaire des pièces de support lorsque ces dernières sont portées.- determine from the generated signal received an amplitude of opening of the joint above which extend the conductive parts of a flexion sensor integral with the support parts when the latter are worn.
For a detection device intended to detect the movements of a hand, a plurality of flexion sensors are then secured to one or more support parts, each sensor being positioned above a joint when the support part or parts are worn, preferably on the outside thereof. Each bending sensor is further linked to an electric circuit and each electric circuit is linked to the detection module.
The processing means are then configured for:
- recevoir le signal généré par le module de détection pour chacun de la pluralité de capteurs de flexion,- receiving the signal generated by the detection module for each of the plurality of bending sensors,
- identifier le capteur de flexion à l’origine du signé généré reçu, et- identify the bending sensor at the origin of the received generated sign, and
- déterminer à partir du signal généré reçu une amplitude d’ouverture de l’articulation au dessus de laquelle s’étendent les parties conductrices du capteur de flexion identifié.- determine from the generated signal received an amplitude of opening of the joint above which extend the conductive parts of the identified flexion sensor.
On a hand, the joints are not identical, nor positioned symmetrically with respect to any point on the hand. Thus, by positioning the detection module at any fixed point of the hand, the distance separating the detection module from each joint is specific. It is therefore possible to identify the bending sensor at the origin of the generated signal received. Alternatively, this identification can be carried out by allocating to each bending sensor a specific input of the processing means.
In all cases, it will be possible to perform a calibration operation of the gesture detection device during which a database will be established which, for each flexion sensor positioned above a joint when the part(s) (s) of support is (are) carried and for a plurality of opening amplitudes of this joint, associates a signal generated by a flexion sensor with a corresponding opening amplitude of the joint. For example, the signals generated when the joint moves from a first reference position to a second reference position can be recorded in the database. These reference positions are for example extreme positions, typically corresponding to extreme opening amplitudes of the joint, for example maximum and minimum. It is then possible to assign the signals recorded between the reference positions to estimated intermediate aperture amplitudes. Of course, more than two reference positions per joint can be used.
This database is preferably established for the user of the gesture detection device (the calibration is performed by this user). The processing means are then configured, in particular programmed, to extract from this database an opening amplitude of a joint corresponding to the signal generated by a flexion sensor.
This can be applied to any other set of joints in the body.
The processing means can comprise one or more processors, for example microprocessors or microcontrollers. The processor(s) may have storage means which may be random access memory (RAM), electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM), flash memory, external memory or the like. These storage means can, among other things, store the data table. The processing means can be configured to receive and/or transmit data. They can be specifically programmed for this purpose or include means of communication, optionally bidirectional, with the detection module.
The processing means may further comprise communication means, for example output or input/output interfaces. These may be wireless communication interfaces (Bluetooth, WIFI or other) or connectors (network port, USB port, serial port, Firewire® port, SCSI port or other) for communicating with electronic systems, such as a computer, an electronic control system for a robot, an electronic control system for a virtual reality tool or any other electronic control system.
The processing means 18, in particular when it is a microcontroller, can also be fixed to a support part. The detection module 16 and the processing means 18 can then be integrated into a box 20 fixed to a support part, here the support part 102.
The gesture detection device operates as follows. The support parts are positioned on the body of the user so that the flexion sensor(s) are each located above a joint of this user.
When this joint is in extension (maximum opening amplitude), the layers forming the bending sensor are substantially flat, there is then no contact between the conductive parts 140, 142 of the bending sensor via the free space 141, the electrical circuit 12 is in an open state, the voltage between the conductive parts is zero, the detection module does not generate any signal.
