The present invention relates to a new catalytic composition comprising a cationic yttrium complex and a nickel-based cocatalyst, and its use in chemical transformation reactions and in particular in a process for the oligomerization of an olefinic charge.
ART ANTERIEURPRIOR ART
Transition metal complexes comprising one or more salicylaldimine family ligands have been found to be useful in polymerization reactions of alkenes and conjugated dienes. Thus, US 7,300, 903 discloses catalytic systems comprising organometallic complexes, in which the transition metals are chosen from group 3 to 11 of the periodic table, comprising one or more ligands from the salicylaldimine family. These systems can be used in the polymerization of alkenes. Yttrium complexes are not specifically described. FR 2 944 800 discloses a catalytic system that can be used in the stereospecific polymerizations of conjugated dienes. The catalytic system described may comprise a rare earth complex such as yttrium tri[N,N-bis-(trimethylsilyl)amide], an alkylating agent such as triisobutylaluminum and a compound based on an aromatic nucleus such as N-(2,6-diisopropyl)phenyl-3,5-di-tert-butylsalicylaldimine.
The dimerization of ethylene into butenes by a homogeneous nickel-based catalyst has been studied since 1950. However, there is still a need to develop new catalytic compositions for oligomerization to obtain olefins such as butene.
In particular, there is a need to develop new catalytic compositions that are more efficient in terms of yield and selectivity for the dimerization of ethylene to but-1-ene.
Surprisingly, the applicant has demonstrated that catalytic compositions comprising a cationic yttrium complex, a nickel-based cocatalyst and an aluminum-based compound have interesting catalytic properties.
A 250mL reactor is dried beforehand under vacuum at 100°C for 2 hours and then placed under 0.5 MPa of ethylene pressure. The reactor is then cooled to ambient temperature (ie approximately 20° C.). 91 mL of ortho-xylene are introduced and the reactor is heated to the test temperature (80°C). Then 3 mL of a solution containing 500 or 1500 µmol of the aluminum-based compound (TEA = triethylaluminum or TIBA = Triisobutylaluminum) in ortho-xylene are introduced. The reaction medium is stirred for 15 minutes under approximately 0.2 MPa of ethylene. The reactor is then degassed. 1 ml of a solution containing 3 µmol of nickel-based compound ([Ni(COD)2], COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) in ortho-xylene is then added to the reactor, followed by 5 mL of a solution containing 15 µmol of the cationic yttrium complex [PY(CH2IfMe2Ph)(THF)3][B(C6F5)4] in ortho-xylene.
The reactor is placed under a pressure of 1.0 MPa of ethylene and stirred at a temperature of 80°C. After 2 hours of reaction time, the ethylene supply is cut off, the stirring stopped and the gaseous phase evacuated.
The liquid phase is collected and neutralized with an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid H 2 SO 4 (10% vol.). After extraction, the organic phase is dried over magnesium sulphate MgSO 4 and analyzed by gas phase chromatography (GC Agilent 6850 Series II with a PONA column). Table 1 presents the results obtained during the oligomerization reaction by the implementation of catalytic compositions (Entries 1 and 2) according to the invention.
Exemple 3 : comparatif sans cocatalyseur à base de nickelExample 3: comparison without nickel-based cocatalyst
In a Schlenk, the cationic complex (15 μmol) is suspended in a solution of 60 mL toluene containing TIBA (150 μmol). The solution is then introduced into the reactor, which is then put under 5 bar of ethylene and the temperature is maintained at 50°C for 30 minutes. The liquid phase is filtered and the recovered polymer weighed. The results are given in Table 1 below.
Conditions de réaction : ratio molaire Al/Y = 100, 100ml ortho-xylène, 1,0 MPa (10 bar) de C2H4, à 80°C, temps de réaction = 2h.Reaction conditions: Al/Y molar ratio = 100, 100 ml ortho-xylene, 1.0 MPa (10 bar) of C 2 H 4 , at 80° C., reaction time = 2 h.
Pour l’Entrée 3* Temps de réaction : 30 minutes, 0,5 MPa (5 bar) de C2H4, à 50°C.For Entry 3* Reaction time: 30 minutes, 0.5 MPa (5 bar) of C 2 H 4 , at 50°C.
Le terme 1-C4 (% poids) correspond au pourcentage de but-1-ène dans la coupe C4.In the table above, the productivity corresponds to the mass of ethylene transformed into oligomerization products per gram of yttrium and per hour. The term C4 (% by weight) corresponds to the weight percentage of butenes relative to the products formed. The term C6 (% by weight) corresponds to the weight percentage of hexenes with respect to the products formed. The term C8 + (% by weight) corresponds to the weight percentage of olefins having between 8 and 30 carbon atoms relative to the products formed. The term 1-C4 (% by weight) corresponds to the percentage of but-1-ene in the C4 cut.
It appears clearly in view of the results contained in Table 1 that the catalytic compositions according to the present invention (cf. entries 1 and 2) make it possible to obtain good activity for the dimerization of ethylene with a selectivity in favor of the but- 1-ene without forming a polymeric by-product such as polyethylene. When the catalytic composition introduced into the reactor does not comprise a nickel compound (not in accordance with the invention), the productivity, that is to say the quantity of ethylene converted, is high (574 g/(g.h)) but the ethylene was fully polymerized (100% of products = PE).
