Description
CONTACT ELECTRIQUE A FUT FERMEFARM CLOSED ELECTRICAL CONTACT
DOMAINE TECHNIQUETECHNICAL AREA
The present invention relates to an electrical contact with closed barrel, and more particularly the crimping barrel with closed section which is not crimped and also crimped on the conductive strands of an electric cable.
ARRIERE-PLAN TECHNOLOGIQUE DE L’INVENTIONTECHNOLOGICAL BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
To reduce the weight of electrical harnesses in vehicles in particular, copper cables are sometimes replaced by aluminum cables with several conductive strands. There are several problems with replacing copper cables with aluminum cables. Mainly, since aluminum is covered with an oxide layer, the electrical conduction at the contact areas between an aluminum cable and a copper contact can be reduced. In order to overcome this problem, one seeks, on the one hand, to break the oxide layer to have better conductivity and, on the other hand, to avoid the reformation of this oxide layer after crimping. To this end, the cable compression ratio can be increased in the crimping area. However, this increase in the compression ratio induces a reduction in the mechanical resistance of the cable in the area thus compressed.
It is therefore important to offer a new solution to these problems.

DESCRIPTION DES MODES DE REALISATION PREFERESDESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
In order to facilitate the description, and without limitation, an orthogonal reference comprising a longitudinal axis L and a vertical axis V is defined. Orientations "bottom", "top", "above", "below", "lower" and "upper" are defined in the vertical direction. "Front" and "rear" orientations are also defined in the longitudinal direction.
According to FIG. 1, an electrical contact 10 with a closed crimped barrel, or also called an electrical terminal with closed crimped barrel, comprises along the longitudinal axis L a rear connection zone 12 to an electrical conductor, as well as a section of electrical contact 14.
Although the electrical contact 10 shown is an electrical terminal with a closed barrel, the invention extends to any type of electrical contact 10 comprising a crimping barrel 18 with closed section, such as for example a charging socket contact for a vehicle electric.
The rear connection zone 12 includes a crimping zone 16 intended to be crimped onto the conductive strands of an electric cable. The crimping zone 16 is in the form of a longitudinal crimping barrel 18 with a closed section intended to insert the conductive strands of an electric cable therein. In other words, the crimping barrel 18 includes a blind cavity 20 into which the conductive strands of an electric cable can be inserted and then crimped in order to ensure mechanical retention of the conductive strands and electrical conduction between the conductive strands and the electrical contact section 14.
According to Figure 1 and Figure 2, the crimp barrel 18 not crimped on the conductive strands of an electric cable has a tubular wall 22 extending longitudinally, the tubular wall 22 comprising an outer surface 24 generally cylindrical of constant section S0 . The internal surface 26 of the tubular wall 22 forms a first hollow longitudinal portion 28 of first generally cylindrical internal section S1 intended to form a mechanical retention portion of conductive strands of an electric cable and a second hollow longitudinal portion 30 of second section S2 internally reduced overall cylindrical provided to form a portion of electrical conduction with the conductive strands of the electrical cable. The second internal section S2 is said to be reduced section in comparison with the first internal section SI.
Selon le mode de réalisation représenté, et de façon préférée non-limitative, la portion de rétention mécanique est agencée à l’extrémité arrière du contact électrique 10, alors que la portion de conduction électrique est agencée au plus proche de la section de contact électrique 14 du contact électrique 10.According to the particular example shown in FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the first portion 28 and the second portion 30 include circular sections S1, S2 according to which the diameter of the second section is smaller than the diameter of the first section. In other words, the diameter of the section forming a portion of electrical conduction is smaller than the diameter of the section forming a portion of mechanical retention. According to the embodiment shown, and preferably without limitation, the mechanical retention portion is arranged at the rear end of the electrical contact 10, while the electrical conduction portion is arranged as close as possible to the electrical contact section 14 of the electrical contact 10.
The internal surface 26 of the tubular wall 22 also forms a hollow transition portion 32 extending longitudinally from a first end 34 of section S3 corresponding to the first internal section SI to a second end 36 of section S3 corresponding to the second internal S2 section, the first end 34 being connected to the first portion 28 and the second end 36 being connected to the second portion 30.
La section interne de la portion de transition est donc une section S3 interne croissante depuis la seconde section S2 jusqu’à la première section S1.In other words, the first end 34 has an internal section S3 corresponding to the first section SI of the first portion 28. The second end 36 has an internal section S3 corresponding to the second section S2 of the second portion 30. The section internal of the transition portion is therefore an internal section S3 increasing from the second section S2 to the first section S1.
Selon l’exemple particulier représenté à la figure 1 et à la figure 2, la portion de transition 32 creuse longitudinale est de section S3 interne conique tronquée reliant la première portion 28 à la seconde portion 30.The transition portion 32 makes it possible to avoid shearing of the conductive strands inserted in the crimp barrel during a crimping operation of the conductive strands in the crimp barrel. According to the particular example shown in FIG. 1 and in FIG. 2, the longitudinal hollow transition portion 32 has a truncated conical internal section S3 connecting the first portion 28 to the second portion 30.
In order to obtain the desired crimp compression for the electrical conduction portion and for the mechanical retention portion, the second internal section S2 represents a reduction of 10% to 40% of the first SI section, preferably from 20% to 30 %. In other words, the thickness along the vertical axis V of the tubular wall 22 at the electrical conduction portion is 60% to 90% thicker, preferably 70% to 80% than the thickness of the tubular wall 22 at the level of the mechanical retention portion.
This type of crimping barrel 18 is particularly advantageous for the electrical contacts 10 of aluminum so as to be able to obtain, after crimping, a first compression ratio of the conductive strands of aluminum or copper to guarantee optimal mechanical retention of the conductive strands without risking damage to the strands due to a compression rate that is too high at the level of the first portion 28 of the crimping barrel 18, and also a second compression ratio of the conductive strands that is sufficiently high, that is to say higher than the first compression ratio, to guarantee optimal electrical conductivity at the second portion 30 of the crimping barrel 18.
According to FIG. 3, the electrical contact 10 is shown before the crimping operation of the conductive strands 38 of an electrical cable 40. FIG. 3 represents a step of placing the conductive strands 38 of the electrical cable 40 in the barrel of crimping 18. The conductive strands 38 of the electric cable 40 are longitudinally inserted into the crimping barrel 18 of the electrical contact 10 described in FIGS. 1 and 2. The conducting strands 38 are sufficiently introduced into the crimping barrel 18 so that the conducting strands 38 occupy overall the entire length of the second portion 30 of the crimp barrel 18, and therefore also the entire length of the first portion 28 of the crimp barrel 18. In other words, the conductive strands 38 are inserted almost until bottom of the blind cavity 20 formed by the crimping barrel 18 of the electrical contact 10 so that the conductive strands 38 are arranged as well in the mechanical retention portion as in the electrical conduction portion of the crimp barrel. The conductive strands 38 are also arranged in the transition portion 32 of the crimping barrel 18.
According to FIG. 4, the crimping barrel 18 comprising the conductive strands 38 of the electric cable 40 is ready to be crimped using a standard crimping tool 42. According to FIG. 4, in order to focus the description essentially on the electrical contact 10 with closed barrel, the crimping tool 42 is partially shown. The support of the electrical contact 10 of the crimping tool 42 is not shown. Without limitation, two punches 44, 46 of a crimping tool 42 are shown. Before the crimping operation, also called shrinking operation, the punches 44, 46 are positioned opposite the crimping barrel 18. More particularly, the punches 44, 46 each comprise a punching zone 48, 50 provided for hammering in a direction vertical DI, D2 the crimping barrel 18 in order to form constrictions on the external surface 24 of the tubular wall 22 of the crimping barrel 18 of the electrical contact 10. The punching zones 48, 50 of the punches 44, 46 are designed so to be able to hammer in a single shrinking operation the first portion 28, the second portion 30 and the transition portion 32 of the crimping barrel 18.
According to FIG. 5, the crimping barrel 18 is shown crimped on the conductive strands 38 of the electric cable 40. The crimping barrel 18 with closed section is crimped by deformation of its external section S0 in a form constricted in compression on the conductive strands 38 of the electric cable 40.
More particularly, the first internal SI section of the first longitudinal hollow portion 28 is compressed by the necking operation so that the conductive strands 38 of the electrical cable 40 are compressed by the first portion 28 according to a first compression force PI.
Also, the second internal section S2 of the second longitudinal hollow portion 30 is compressed by the necking operation so that the conductive strands 38 of the electric cable 40 are compressed by the second portion 30 according to a second compressive force P2 greater than the first PI compression force.
According to the embodiment shown, the internal section S3 of the transition portion 32 is also compressed by the necking operation so that the conductive strands 38 of the electric cable 40 are compressed according to a progressive compressive force P3 from the first force compression PI at its first end 34 to the second compression force P2 at its second end 36.
It should be noted that according to the invention, although the constrictions 52 formed on the external surface 24 of the tubular wall 22 of the crimping barrel 18 are of similar depths along the vertical axis V, thanks to the geometry of the internal surface 26 of the tubular wall 22, the conductive strands 38 are crimped according to the first compression force PI and the second compression force P2 distinct from the first compression force.
By way of nonlimiting example, the first compressed hollow portion 28 compresses the cross section of the conductive strands 38 by about 20% of their uncompressed section, and the second hollow compressed portion 30 compresses the cross section of the strands from 30% to 50% of their uncompressed section.
