L'invention concerne un dispositif d'orientation (1) pour le tri d'articles remarquable en ce qu'il comprend un volet directionnel (2) monté mobile en rotation autour d'un axe vertical A, des moyens d'entraînement (4) de ce volet directionnel (2), au moins un moyen de codage (5) comportant une face active (51) lié au déplacement dudit volet (2), au moins un moyen de mesure et de détection (6) comprenant au moins une source (61a, 61b) et au moins un détecteur (62a, 62b), ledit moyen de mesure et de détection (6) étant apte à détecter une position ou une vitesse de rotation dudit volet directionnel (2) par l'interprétation du ou des signaux au niveau dudit détecteur (62a, 62b). L'invention concerne également un module de tri (10) comprenant au moins le dispositif d'orientation (1) et des moyens de transfert pour acheminer les articles, et un appareil de traitement d'articles du type lecteur-scanner-trieur comprenant au moins ce module de tri (10).
