Description
The invention relates, in the technical field, to the control of aftertreatment devices for the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In view of the increasingly demanding standards of depollution, car manufacturers are obliged to design exhaust aftertreatment devices emitted by an internal combustion engine, and more particularly by a diesel engine, more and more advanced. Thus, the aftertreatment devices conventionally comprise an exhaust line, which may be provided with at least one exhaust line filter, chosen from: a nitrogen oxide catalyst, or NOx catalyst, also known to those skilled in the art under the name "NOx-trap", a selective nitrogen oxide catalyst, otherwise known under the name Anglo-Saxon "Selective Catalytic Reduction" or "SCR", - A particulate filter, and - an oxidation catalyst, otherwise known under the name "Diesel Oxydation Catalyst" or "DOC".
These filters make it possible to reduce the concentration of the exhaust gases in different pollutants, such as carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and fine particles. Moreover, these filters act on exhaust gas parameters, such as temperature or enthalpy.
However, to function effectively, these filters may require that the exhaust gases be at particular pressure or temperature conditions. For example, a particulate filter requires that the gases at the inlet thereof be at very particular parameters, in particular pressure and temperature, in order to effectively filter the exhaust gas. Thus, a disadvantage caused by the multiplication of the exhaust line filters is that it becomes necessary to have an increasingly fine knowledge of the parameters of the exhaust gases at different points in the exhaust line of the exhaust system. post treatment. In particular, a good knowledge of the temperature of the gases is necessary.
A conventional solution is to incorporate probes to measure these parameters. Thus, in the conventional case of a post-processing device of a diesel engine comprising an exhaust line on which is incorporated an oxidation catalyst (DOC), upstream of a nitrogen oxide catalyst selective (SCR), four temperature measurement probes, immediately immediately upstream of the DOC, immediately downstream of the DOC, immediately upstream of the SCR and immediately downstream of the SCR are incorporated.
The multiplication of temperature sensors to know the parameters of the exhaust gas flowing in the exhaust line, however, has multiple disadvantages in terms of cost, size and reliability of the control.
In view of the foregoing, the object of the invention is to make it possible to improve the speed, reliability and robustness of the control of an aftertreatment device for the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine. while limiting the number of sensors incorporated in the exhaust line. For this purpose, it is proposed a device for post-treatment of the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, comprising an exhaust line, an upstream exhaust line filter located on the line of exhaust system, upstream of an exhaust line downstream filter and a control device, the control device comprising a first measurement module of a measured temperature chosen from the temperature of the gases at the outlet of the upstream filter and the temperature of the gas entering the downstream filter, a second gas flow measurement module through the exhaust line, a third measurement module for the temperature of a wall of the exhaust line and a module for determining the an unknown temperature chosen from the temperature of the gases at the outlet of the upstream filter and the temperature of the gases entering the downstream filter, the unknown temperature being distinct from the measured temperature.
According to a general characteristic of this device, the determination module is capable of estimating the unknown temperature by the use of a state observer, as a function, in particular, of the measured temperature, the gas flow rate and the wall temperature. .
Such a control device is particularly advantageous in that it makes it possible to control the post-processing device without the need to incorporate a temperature sensor immediately downstream of the upstream filter. Moreover, it should be noted that several variations concerning the measured and unknown temperatures can be envisaged within the scope of the invention.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the upstream filter is an oxidation catalyst.
In another mode of regulation of the invention, the downstream filter is a selective catalytic reductant.
In another aspect, there is provided a method of controlling an aftertreatment system of the exhaust gas of a motor vehicle internal combustion engine, said aftertreatment system being provided with an exhaust line, an upstream exhaust line filter mounted on the exhaust line upstream of an exhaust line downstream filter, the method comprising at least one iteration during which: - a measured temperature is measured selected from the temperature of the gases at the outlet of the upstream filter and the temperature of the gases entering the downstream filter, the flow of gas through the exhaust line and the temperature of a wall of the exhaust line; an unknown temperature chosen from the temperature of the gases at the outlet of the upstream filter and the temperature of the gases entering the downstream filter, the unknown temperature being distinct from the measured temperature.
According to a general characteristic of this method, the unknown temperature is determined by means of a behavior model of the operating parameters of the exhaust gas aftertreatment system combined with the use of a state observer. , depending in particular on the measured temperature, the gas flow rate and the wall temperature.
As for the control device according to the invention, several variants can be envisaged concerning the measured and unknown temperatures. Thus, according to a first variant, the temperature at the inlet of the downstream filter is measured while the temperature of the gases at the outlet of the upstream filter is estimated. According to a second variant, the temperature at the outlet of the upstream filter is measured while the gas temperature at the inlet of the downstream filter is estimated.
Advantageously, the state observer is of the sliding mode type.
It can further be provided that the state observer is set from the conservation mass equation and / or the energy conservation equation. Preferably, the state observer is set from the two conservation and conservation equations of energy.
In an advantageous embodiment, the state observer is regulated by a system of at least one differential equation whose unknowns are the unknown temperature and the enthalpy of the exhaust gases at the outlet of the upstream filter or at the inlet of the downstream filter.
Preferably, if the unknown temperature is the temperature of the gases at the outlet of the upstream filter, the second difference equation is the enthalpy of the exhaust gas at the outlet of the downstream filter. Otherwise, the second unknown is preferably the enthalpy of the exhaust gas at the inlet of the downstream filter.
It can then be provided that each iteration comprises a first step of defining a sliding surface of the unknown temperature, a second step of defining a sliding surface of the enthalpy of the gases, a third step of determining the temperature. unknown and a fourth step of calculating enthalpic flow rates of the system.
Advantageously, a Liapunov candidate function is used to estimate the slip of the unknown temperature and / or the gas enthalpy shift.
Preferably, input parameters of the state observer are calibrated by an optimization function with the criterion of the least square between the measurement and the estimate. Other objects, features and advantages of the invention will become apparent on reading the following description, given solely by way of nonlimiting example, and with reference to the appended drawings, in which: FIG. 1 schematically represents a device for aftertreatment according to one embodiment of the invention, and - Figure 2 is a block representation of the relationships between the different parameters of the exhaust gas flowing in the exhaust line of the after-treatment device of Figure 1.
Referring to Figure 1, there is shown schematically a post-processing device 2 according to an exemplary embodiment of the invention, comprising an exhaust line 4 in which exhaust gas from a combustion engine internal (not shown). The flow direction of the exhaust gas is represented in FIG. 1 by arrows 6. In this embodiment, the internal combustion engine is a diesel engine. However, it is not beyond the scope of the invention using another type of internal combustion engine, such as a gasoline engine.
In order to reduce the concentration of the exhaust gases in various pollutants, a plurality of filters is incorporated in the exhaust line 4. In this embodiment, the after-treatment device 2 comprises, arranged on the exhaust line 4 in this order, an oxidation catalyst 8, hereinafter DOC denoted, a first selective nitrogen oxide catalyst 10, hereinafter referred to as SCR-10 and a second selective nitrogen oxide catalyst 12, hereinafter referred to as SCR-12. In addition, the exhaust line 4 comprises a branch 14 of an exhaust gas recirculation circuit or EGR circuit (not shown) and an exhaust flap 16.
In order to allow effective depollution of the exhaust gases, the post-processing device 2 comprises a plurality of sensors, among which: a first exhaust gas concentration sensor made of nitrogen oxides 18, situated upstream of the DOC 8, - a second nitrogen oxides concentration sensor 20, located downstream of SCR-12, - an ammonia exhaust gas concentration sensor 22 located downstream of SCR-12, - three means 24, 26 and 28 respectively capable of measuring the mass flow rate Qi flowing in the exhaust line 4, upstream of the DOC 8, the mass flow rate Qegr flowing in the branch 14 and the mass flow rate Qo flowing in the line 4, downstream of the SCR-12, three temperature sensors 30, 32 and 34, respectively able to measure the temperature of the exhaust gas immediately upstream of the DOC 8, the temperature T3 immediately upstream of the SCR -10 and the immediate temperature T4 downstream of the SCR-10, and a temperature sensor 35, able to measure the temperature Tp of the wall of the exhaust line 4.
In addition, the post-processing device 2 comprises a control device 36. The control device 36 is able to collect the signals delivered by the means for measuring the concentration of nitrogen oxides 18 and 20, the concentration of ammonia 22, flow 24, 26 and 28 and temperature 30, 32, 34 and 35. Furthermore, the control device 36 is able to control the operating point of the internal combustion engine and the opening of the shutter In addition, the control device 36 is capable of estimating the temperature T2 of the exhaust gases immediately downstream of the DOC 8, without it being necessary to incorporate a temperature sensor at this point. .
For this purpose, the control device 36 is provided with hardware and software means for estimating the temperature T2 as a function of the measurements of the temperatures Τι, T3, T4, Tp and flow rates Qi and Qo. Given its limited computing capacity, the control device 36 assimilates in this embodiment the part of the exhaust line 4 located between the DOC 8 and the SCR-10 to that of a simple and straight tube 38, so as to take into account only the temperatures T3 and Tp and the flow Qi.
FIG. 2 shows a schematic representation of the mass and energy exchanges undergone by the exhaust gases situated in the tube 38. In this figure, the tube 38 is represented by a central rectangle, arrows in solid lines symbolizing the flow rates mass of fluid entering and leaving the tube 38 and dashed arrows representing the enthalpic flows entering and leaving the tube 38.
The mass flow Qm2 of the exhaust gas exiting the DOC 8 and entering the tube 38 is represented by the arrow 40. These exhaust gases pass through the tube 38, then exit at a mass flow rate Qm3 of the tube 38 in order to move towards the SCR-10, as is schematically represented in FIG. 2 by the arrow 42.
The enthalpy flow rate Qh2 of the gases entering the tube 38 is represented by the arrow 44. The enthalpy flow rate Qh3 of the gases leaving the tube 38 is represented by the arrow 46. The enthalpy flow rate Qhp linked to the loss of heat of the hot exhaust gases through the walls of the tube 38 is represented by the arrow 48.
The enthalpy flow rates Qh2, Qh3 and Qhp can be determined from the temperatures T2, T3 and Tp, according to the following relationships:
or :
- Tg represents the temperature of the gases in the tube 38, - Cp represents the heat capacity at constant pressure of the exhaust gas contained in the tube 38, - hi and he correspond to the heat exchange coefficients depending respectively on the inner wall and of the outer wall of the tube 38, - Si and Se respectively correspond to the internal exchange surface and to the external exchange surface of the tube 38.
The determination of the temperature Tg will be done by solving a differential equation based on the conservation equations for the mass and the internal energy of the exhaust gas passing through the tube 38. Concerning the equation of the conservation of mass, any mass variations between the inlet and the outlet of the tube 38 may be related to injection or evaporation of urea between the DOC 8 and the SCR-10.
Advantageously, in order to facilitate the calculations, one can neglect these mass variations, so that one accepts the hypothesis:
Qi ~ Qmi ~ Qm3 The conservation equation of the internal energy U of the exhaust gases contained in the tube 38 is written:
Moreover, by application of the first law of Joule, the expression of the internal energy U is written: U = m * Cv * Tg, where: - m represents the mass of the exhaust gases present in the tube 38 , and - Cv represents the constant volume heat capacity of the exhaust gases.
From the two conservation equations, we can write the evolution of the temperature of the gases Tg as:
In this way,
by asking: we get the equation:
This differential equation depends only on the temperature Tg of the exhaust gas in the tube 38 and the enthalpy flow rate Qh2. The enthalpy flow can be easily connected to the gas temperature by the simple relation:
To solve such an equation, the controller 38 comprises the hardware and software means for solving the differential equation by using a state observer.
It is recalled that a state observer, in automatic and in information theory, is an extension of a model represented as a state representation. When the state of a system is not measurable, we design an observer that allows to reconstruct the state from a model of the dynamic system and measurements of other states.
Several state observers can be used for the control of the aftertreatment devices of the exhaust gases of an internal combustion engine.
In view of the above, the system to be observed is defined by the differential equation of state:
where Tg corresponds to the temperature of the gases in the tube 38 to be estimated and QH2 corresponds to the enthalpy flow rate to be estimated. The terms ui and u2 correspond to the state observer inputs and will be detailed later.
To precisely estimate the temperature of the gases Tg in the tube 38, it is possible to carry out several iterations, each of which consists in solving the differential equation of state. During each of these iterations, the differential equation is solved by considering reference values
, these particular values being alternatively predetermined initialization values, where the solutions of the differential equation of state resolved during the previous iteration.
By determining the value of the estimate QH2, it is possible to recover the estimate of the temperature Tg in the tube 38. The inputs of the state observer ui and U2 must be chosen so that the errors Tg -T and QH2 -QH2 converge to zero.
Thus, by converging the error Tg-Tg to zero, it is possible to estimate the enthalpy flow rate QH2 precisely, and then to estimate the temperature T accurately. The state observer method is therefore advantageous in that it allows to estimate the temperature T2 from the only data Qi, T3 and Tp.
An advantageous way to determine the temperature of the walls Tp is to measure the temperature of the water circuit for cooling the wall of the exhaust line 4.
Subsequently, there is described a plurality of steps for solving the differential state equation by the state observer method. Preferably, these steps are implemented at each iteration, so as to update the value of the estimate Tg and estimate QH2 in order to approximate the real values.
A first step consists in defining a sliding surface SI of the temperature of the gases Tg:
where ki is a predetermined coefficient.
Advantageously, the sliding surface function can be manipulated by a candidate function of Lyapunov V, defined as follows:
The choice of a Lyapounov candidate function is advantageous in that it is equivalent to say that Tg-Tg converges to zero and to say that the function derived from V is negative. This derived function is written:
Thus, in order to obtain a derivative always negative, one can define ui according to the following equality:
where hi and h.2 both represent a definite constant, and γι is a constant defined so that
Tg-fg \> Vi \ and η <0.
With this choice of the variable ui, it is possible to reformulate the differential equation: Λ
A second step consists in defining a sliding surface S2 of the enthalpy flow rate of the gases entering the tube 38:
where k3 is a predetermined coefficient.
Advantageously, the function S2 is manipulated by the same candidate function of Lyapunov V. The derived function is written as follows:
Thus, in order to obtain a derivative which is always negative, it is advantageously assumed that:
The term U2 is defined by the following equation:
where γ2 is a predefined negative constant, I13 being a predefined constant, 72 being further defined such that:
With this choice of the variable U2, it is possible to write the differential equation:
In a third step, the temperature at the inlet of the tube is estimated:
In a fourth step, the temperature of the wall is calculated:
In this relation, Cm corresponds to the heat capacity of the metal constituting the exhaust line 4. Qhp represents the enthalpy lost by the gases towards the walls, which can be calculated according to the relation:
where Hi represents a predetermined coefficient, for example of the order of 3000 Wm "2.K" 1 / (kg / m3) and Si is the inner surface of the tube 38.
Qext represents the enthalpy lost by the walls to the outside, defined according to:
where he is a predetermined coefficient, for example of the order of 30 Wm-2.K-1, Se is the outer surface of the tube 38 and Text is the temperature of a fluid in contact with the outer surface, for example a coolant.
Finally, M represents the metal mass of the wall.
The parameters ki, hi, h2, h3, k3, γι and yi can be informed from a cartography resulting from the literature, or else identified from measurement by conventional optimization algorithms. An example of a conventional optimization algorithm is the fmincon algorithm defined in the Matlab® software allowing an optimization of the parameters with the criterion of a smaller square between the measurement of the temperature at the inlet of the tube 38 and the estimation by the device of order 36.
In view of the foregoing, the invention makes it possible to estimate the temperature at a point of the post-processing device 2 without incorporating a temperature sensor therein.
In other words, the invention makes it possible to determine the temperature at four different points of the exhaust line with only three sensors. If, in the exemplary embodiment which has been shown, the estimated temperature was that of the point immediately downstream of the oxidation catalyst, it is of course possible, without departing from the scope of the invention, to arrange the temperature sensors upstream. or downstream of other filters constituting the aftertreatment device of the exhaust gas and use the measured data to estimate the temperature at another point near any of the filters, this point may just as easily be upstream than downstream of said filter. In particular, it would have been possible in this embodiment to have a temperature sensor capable of measuring the temperature T2 and to remove the temperature sensor 32, the control device 36 being able to estimate the value of the temperature T3 from the measurements other sensors.
If, in the exemplary embodiment which has been presented, the temperature has been estimated by assimilating a portion of the exhaust line to a simple and straight tube, it is possible, without departing from the scope of the invention, to consider a control device capable of estimating the temperature and wherein the tube 38 schematizing the part of the exhaust line 4 located between the DOC 8 and the SCR-10 is bent, or with complex geometry, etc., or if this tube comprises elements such as mixers or injectors of the type of those frequently encountered in ducts upstream of the SCRs.
By avoiding the incorporation of an additional temperature sensor in the exhaust line, substantial savings are realized in terms of the cost of manufacturing the vehicle and the reliability of the temperature control within the transmission line is improved. exhaust. In addition, the estimation by the use of a state observer is advantageous in that it is particularly reliable, robust and inexpensive in terms of the occupation of the microprocessors of the computer.
