Description
The present invention relates to the technical field of packaging, and more particularly to that of packaging and dispensing a pasty or gel liquid product intended to be preserved in a sealed manner, and / or sterilely without the addition of preservative, and also intended to be distributed in portions or unit doses using a hand pump or any other dispenser assembly. The invention more particularly relates to a device for packaging and dispensing a product, and which comprises a container for containing the product to be dispensed with a pump or a dispenser assembly, the type without air inlet, the container is provided and a movable piston defining with the walls of the container a variable volume in which the product is contained. Conventional structure conditioning devices are known which allow to store and distribute a product in dosage form or in any other form, while maintaining it sterile or safe from air for the duration of its use. These devices are used in particular in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food fields. It should be noted that, when a product portion is expelled outside the container, there is created inside said container a vacuum that must be compensated by an air inlet equivalent to the volume of product expelled . A device of this type which makes it possible to obtain a similar result is described in FR 2 772 007. It comprises a rigid container intended to contain the product to be packaged, a manual pump of the type without air intake mounted on the container and for dispensing the product in unit doses, and a sterilizing filter placed in a renewal air circuit formed in the bottom of the container.
The major disadvantage of this type of device lies in the fact that, on the one hand, it does not isolate the product from the air and, on the other hand, it is limited to products that are sufficiently fluid so as not to stick to the walls of the device. container.
In other types of devices, there is provided a container whose interior volume is variable and decreases as the product it contains is distributed. Thus, containers with a sliding piston in the container body are known and go up as the product is expelled by the successive actions on the pump. The product is thus contained in the variable volume delimited by the walls of the container, the lower part of the pump and the upper part of the piston. When a dose of product is dispensed through the pump there is created within the product a vacuum which is transmitted to the piston which moves towards the pump to compensate for said depression. The displacement of the piston causes a depression in the part of the container which does not contain the product and this vacuum is compensated by an air inlet through an orifice located in the bottom of said container. Thus the product is theoretically isolated from the ambient air and can theoretically be kept sterile or retain its properties if it is sensitive to oxygen. The major disadvantage of such containers as they exist today is the lack of relative sealing between the sliding piston and the walls of the container, rendering partially inoperative the theoretical advantages that can be expected from these devices. It is indeed essential to obtain easy sliding of the piston against the walls of the container under the effect of the depression due to the expulsion of a dose of product because this depression is low and there is a risk that the piston does not move if the clamping of this piston against the walls of the container is too important. In this case the device is unusable. To improve the sliding of the piston there may be provided flexible lips around the periphery of said piston and which are applied on the walls of the container. These lips are however not sufficient to ensure a perfect seal with the walls of the container. A first consequence of the relative sealing between the piston and the walls of the container is the risk of leakage when the product is liquid or relatively fluid. These leaks occur in particular when the body of the container undergoes shock or deformation under external stress is in use or during transport operations. The major disadvantage of this leakage of product between the piston and the walls of the container is the appearance of this liquid or relatively fluid product outside the container after said product has taken the passage formed in the bottom of the container so that to ensure the entry of the air necessary for the equilibrium of the pressures. Another consequence of the relative sealing between the piston and the walls of the container lies in the impossibility of keeping the product in perfectly sterile form, whether liquid, in the form of gel or pasty. The relative sealing between the piston lips and the walls of the container is not sufficient to prevent the passage of bacteria, contained in the air in the container compartment not containing the product, to the compartment containing the product. The possible presence of a film of the product which remains between the lips of the piston and the walls of the container facilitates the contamination of the product by the bacteria. A first object of the invention is to make the device tight and to prevent product leakage to the outside of the container.
Another object of the invention is to allow the sterile maintenance of the product throughout the use of the device. More generally, the object of the invention is to overcome the drawbacks of analogous devices of the state of the art and to propose such a device that is more suitable for the various known devices. In order to achieve the desired goals of the invention, the invention provides a device for packaging and dispensing a product, generally liquid, pasty or gel, comprising a container intended to contain the product to be packaged, a dispenser assembly, a piston sliding inside said container and delimiting a variable volume in which the product is contained, an intake assembly of the air entering the container after dispensing of a portion or dose of product, and characterized in that the air intake assembly comprises at least one valve allowing air to enter the container when a portion of the product has been distributed and likely to oppose if necessary to any passage of the product from the inside to the outside of the container. Thus, the device makes it possible to dispense portions or doses of product by simple pressure on an integral distributor assembly of the container, to compensate for the depression thus created in the container by an air supply through the intake and outlet assembly. to avoid possibly leakage of liquid or relatively fluid product to the outside of the container. It also allows, when necessary, to keep the product sterile. Advantageously, the container is made of two separately molded plastic parts assembled in a sealed manner, one of which may comprise the dispensing assembly and the other portion may comprise a rigid portion for housing the inlet device. air in which is provided at least one valve. In a first embodiment this valve is elastically deformable and cooperates with a seat 15 located on the end, facing the inside of the container, a chimney integral with the air intake assembly which also comprises means for retaining the valve. Such an elastic valve can effectively prevent any outflow of the product to the outside of the container through the air inlet passage, while permitting the entry of outside air by elastically flexing towards the interior of the container, under the effect of the suction of the outside air after the expulsion of a portion of product through the dispenser assembly. In a second embodiment the valve consists of a filter allowing air to enter the container. Depending on the nature of the product contained in the container, the filter may be chosen to be hydrophobic or hydrophilic, or of another nature but always so as to allow the entry of air into the container while being capable of if necessary, oppose any possible release of product from the inside of the container to the outside. Thus, by carefully choosing the nature of the filter, a valve is made with the aid of the latter and in a manner that is advantageously simple, which allows the outside air to enter the interior of the container, but which is likely to oppose, if necessary, any possible product outflow. In certain uses, for which the product must be kept sterile, the valve may advantageously be constituted by a bacteriological filter allowing air to enter the container but not allowing the bacteria present in the ambient air to penetrate into the container. inside the container.
Thus, in a simple manner, a device capable of storing and dispensing a product advantageously sterile. The filter which can be in various forms can be overmoulded in the bottom of the container or be previously mounted in a rigid plastic sheath which will itself be assembled at the bottom of the container by any suitable means such as overmolding, engagement in force or welding. When the inner face of the filter which may possibly be in contact with the product from a leak between the piston and the container has been wetted, this face can be made partially impervious to air, which can not or very difficult to penetrate inside the container.
Under these conditions, the admission of air into the container after dispensing a dose or portion of product is not or hardly ensured and the depression thus created in the part of the container that does not contain the product can oppose the raising of the piston and make the device unusable. In order to remedy this drawback, the device may comprise an additional valve, associated with said intake assembly, arranged between the filter and the interior volume of the container, and intended to prevent any leakage of the product contained in the container through the passage air inlet and any contact between the product and the filter.
Other features and advantages of the invention emerge from the description given below, with reference to the appended drawings, which represent, by way of non-limiting examples, embodiments and implementations of the object of the invention. the invention. In these drawings: FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic view in axial section of a first example of a device according to the invention, showing a container made in two parts joined to each other in a sealed manner, and with which cooperate a manual unit dose dispensing pump, a sliding piston, an air intake assembly and an elastic valve allowing air to enter but preventing liquid leakage through the air inlet passage; - Figure 2 is an enlarged partial view in axial section of Figure 1 showing the bottom of the container comprising the air intake assembly in which is disposed an elastic valve in the closed position; - Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 showing the valve in the open position; FIG. 4 is an enlarged partial view in axial section showing the bottom of the container comprising the air renewal assembly in which a filter is arranged; FIG. 5 is an enlarged partial view in axial section of a variant of the device shown in FIG. 4 in which an additional valve is located in the air renewal assembly; In the various figures, the same reference numerals designate analogous elements of the various exemplary embodiments shown and described. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the packaging and dispensing device comprises a receptacle 2 of generally cylindrical shape, a ring 14 of generally cylindrical shape secured to and sealingly to the neck of the receptacle 2 by means of FIG. hooking 15, a manual pump 1 made integral and in a sealed manner with the ring 14 and 5 for dispensing in unitary doses the product 6 contained in the container 2, a generally cylindrical rigid piston 4 sliding in the body of the container 2 and comprising flexible lips 5 and 5 ', and an air intake assembly 16 located in the bottom 3 of the container 2 allowing the outside air to enter the interior 7 of the container. The air intake assembly 16 comprises an elastic valve 9 in the form of a flat annular disc whose central portion engages a cylindrical portion forming a seat 13 located in said intake assembly. 16. The mounting of this valve is such that at rest, it is in compression on the seat 13 so that it closes the air inlet passage 8 when it is not requested . The peripheral portion of the valve is retained by claw-shaped protuberances 17 of a cylindrical chimney 10 located in the air intake assembly 16. These protuberances 17, circularly spaced relative to one another, are designed such that they hold the valve 9 upward but do not oppose the passage of air when the valve 9 is biased. This valve 9 allows the air to enter the container through the orifice 8 under the effect of a suction by lifting the seat 13 but 30 opposes any leakage of product to the outside of the container. As shown in FIG. 4, the air intake assembly 16 comprises a filter 12 disposed in a cylindrical central portion 18 of said intake assembly 16. This filter is sealed with the central portion 18 either by ultrasonic welding either by overmoulding or by any other means.
It may advantageously be in a form previously assembled in a plastic sheath and sealed with the central portion 18 either by ultrasonic welding or overmolding or by any other means which the commitment in force. In the latter case it is retained by protrusions 11. These examples of assembly between the filter 12 and the central portion 18 of the air intake assembly 16 are not limiting since the air entering the container 2 is forced to pass through the filter 12. This filter 12 allows air to enter the portion 7 of the body of the container 2 under the effect of a suction but it is likely to oppose if necessary for any liquid outlet that may come from a leak between the body of the container 2 and the lips 5 and 5 'of the piston 4. This filter 12 can thus have a valve function. The filter 12 may preferably be sterile and oppose the entry of the bacteria contained in the intake air and may contaminate the product 6 via a relative sealing and the possible presence of a film of product between the body of the container 2 and the lips 5 and 5 'of the piston 4. Thus, if the device has been either filled under sterile conditions or has undergone terminal sterilization after filling, the product can be kept sterile during any the duration of its use. As shown in Figure 5 the filter 12 is associated with an elastic valve 9 of the same type as that shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 and previously described. This additional valve 9 is always placed between the inside 7 of the body of the container 2 and the filter 12 so as to prevent any contact between said filter 12 and the liquid that may come from a leak between the body of the container 2 and the lips 5 and 5 'of the piston 4. Thus it avoids any risk of clogging of the filter 12 by the possible contact with the product and any risk of blocking the entry of air through the filter 12 can lead to make the device unusable . The device as shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 operates in the following manner. A manual pressure exerted by a user on the pump 1 causes the expulsion of a dose or portion of the product 6. When the pressure on the pump 1 stops it sucks a volume of product 6 equivalent to the volume previously expelled and it is thus ready to expel another dose or portion of product 6. The suction of the product 6 in the pump causes a displacement of the piston 4 along the arrow A under the effect of the transmission of the depression by the product 6. The 15 displacement piston 4 along the arrow A causes an increase in the volume of air 7 and thus creates a vacuum in this volume 7. This depression is offset by an intake of outside air. According to FIG. 3, under the effect of the depression created in the volume 7, the central part of the valve 9 comes off the seat 13 while its peripheral part is retained by the claw-shaped protuberances 17 located in the part cylindrical 10 in which is housed the valve 9. The air then enters the volume 7 25 arrows B, 8 '. This entry of outside air ceases when the pressure balance is achieved between the outside and the inside 7 of the container 2. No depression no longer acting on the valve 9 its natural elasticity makes it return to its position 30 initial (Figure 2) in contact and compression on the seat of the chimney 13 so that it closes any passage through the orifice 8. The entire device is then in equilibrium, and the interior 7 of the body of the container 2 is isolated from the outside.
In the absence of a valve as in the devices according to the state of the art, the product possibly present in the volume 7 of the container 2 flows outside the container 2 by taking the passage formed by the orifice 8. In the device according to the invention, the valve 9 having returned to its initial position in compression on the seat of the chimney 13 (Figure 2) the product possibly present in the volume 7 can not It is therefore advantageous to escape to the outside of the device through the orifice 8. Thus, a completely sealed packaging and dispensing assembly has been advantageously made, avoiding product leakage to the outside. The operating mode of the device shown in Figure 4 is substantially identical. In this case it is a filter 12 which acts as a valve. Its nature is chosen so that it lets in air but is likely to oppose if necessary the passage of liquids. Its nature will then be chosen according to the product 6 to be packaged and dispensed. If the product is aqueous a hydrophobic filter will be chosen, if it is not aqueous a hydrophilic filter will be chosen, or of a different nature but in such a way that it is likely to oppose the passage if necessary. product 6 from the inside of the container to the outside. In the case where the product is to be kept sterile, a sterilizing filter will be chosen which will allow the renewal air to enter the container but which will prevent any passage of the bacteria and any contamination of the product. .
La valve 9 n'est pas obligatoirement élastique, elle pourra se présenter sous une forme de pièce rigide 15 ou semi-rigide coopérant avec un siège mais toujours de manière à ce qu'elle laisse passer l'air sous l'effet d'une dépression et s'oppose à toute sortie de produit lorsqu'elle n'est pas sollicitée.FIG. 5 shows a combination of the means of FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 4 in which the elastic valve 9 serves to prevent any passage of the liquid and any contact between the inner surface of the filter 12 and the product 6 resulting from possible leakage between the lips 5 and 5 'of the piston 4 and the body of the container 2. The filter 12 is thus protected against clogging that may come from the presence of product 6 to its contact and may oppose or make more difficult the passage of air and rebalancing pressures. Other embodiments of the entire device are possible without departing from the scope of the invention. Thus the body of the container 2 and the ring 14 can be one piece. Under these conditions it is the bottom 3 which will be molded separately and assembled to the assembly formed by the ring 14 and the body of the container 2 by means identical to those used for the assembly of these last two parts. Similarly the assembly formed by the valve 9 and the seat 13 may be made in a different form of the form described. The valve 9 is not necessarily elastic, it may be in the form of rigid or semi-rigid part cooperating with a seat but always so that it lets air through under the effect of a depression and opposes any exit of product when it is not solicited.
