Abstract
Description
Objet de l'invention Il existe un besoin de réaliser de manière simple des pièces métalliques résistantes et présentant un aspect métallique, avantageusement un aspect doré.TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION The invention relates to a metal plating process and to a metal plating element having, by virtue of said plating, excellent resistance to metal plating. important thermal and mechanical stresses. In particular, the metal plating provides, to the element on which it is applied, a protection against corrosion while improving its aesthetics. STATE OF THE ART In the general field of the automobile, metal parts, in particular those used in braking systems, are regularly subjected to particularly high mechanical and thermal stresses. In addition, the aesthetic appearance of the parts used is an important factor in the automotive sector. Thus, the metal parts are generally coated with paint or anodized to ensure both a protection of said parts while giving them a colorful and / or metallized attractive to the customer. Seeking to provide resistant and aesthetic metal parts, manufacturers have turned to increasingly complex, toxic and expensive paint compositions. However, the paint compositions applied to parts such as a brake caliper are usually not very resistant to the expansion / retraction cycles of the stirrup subjected to significant thermal variations. OBJECT OF THE INVENTION There is a need to make simple metal parts resistant and having a metallic appearance, preferably a golden appearance.
This object is achieved by means of a metal plating method of an element comprising the steps of: applying to the element at least a first layer of a lacquer comprising a polyurethane resin and a hardening agent, to bond at least one metal sheet on the first layer of varnish, apply, on the free face of the metal sheet, at least a second layer of varnish. OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS The method of plating an element such as a brake caliper comprises the steps of: applying, on the element 1, at least a first layer of a varnish 2a comprising a polyurethane-based resin and a hardening agent, bonding at least one metal foil 3 to the first lacquer layer 2a, applying at least one second lacquer layer 2b to the free face of the metal foil 3.
Polyurethane is a urethane polymer, an organic molecule produced by the reaction of an isocyanate and an alcohol. It has the particular advantage of being able to be manufactured with a wide variety of textures and hardness by varying the monomers used for its manufacture and, possibly, by adjuvant additives particular. The varnish of the plating process comprises in particular a polyurethane-based resin advantageously having a viscosity at 25 ° C. of 2900 to 3200 mPa.s. The term "polyurethane resin" means a resin whose major constituent is polyurethane. In a preferred embodiment, the polyurethane resin is selected from resins resistant to temperatures above 200 ° C and having particularly elastic properties to withstand expansion / retraction cycles. The varnish of the plating process also includes a curing agent. Said curing agent advantageously has a viscosity at 25 ° C of 50 to 200 mPa.s, preferably about 100 mPa.s. Such a viscosity of the curing agent makes it possible to obtain an easy and uniform application varnish. According to an advantageous embodiment, the curing agent has a density of between 1.15 and 1.35 g / ml, preferably a density of 1.24 g / ml. According to a particularly preferred embodiment, the curing agent is transparent and uncolored to leave visible the metal sheet (s) 3, thus ensuring the best possible aesthetic rendering. The term "transparent" means a compound whose transmittance is greater than 50%, preferably greater than 75% and more preferably still greater than 80%. According to one embodiment, the varnish has a weight ratio of resin based on polyurethane and hardener of 1/1 to 1.5 / 1, preferably 1.30 / 1 to 1.35 / 1. Such a weight ratio gave the best results in terms of application (application of a uniform layer), application time ratio / drying time, etc.
The application of the varnish can be carried out by any means known to those skilled in the art. Advantageously, those skilled in the art will choose the most appropriate means for depositing uniform layers, that is to say layers substantially free of bubbles or holes and having a constant thickness. To do this, the varnish advantageously has a viscosity at 25 ° C of 300 to 500 mPa.s. The application of at least a first layer of varnish 2a can be done on all or part of the surface of the element 1. In particular, when the element 1 is a brake caliper, the application of the first layer varnish 2a is preferably performed on the entire outer surface of the brake caliper. The varnish layers are intended to uniformly glue the metal sheet (s) 3 onto the element 1 and, optionally, to bond the metal foils 3 to each other. The application of the first layer of varnish 2a is followed by a step of bonding at least one metal sheet 3 to said first layer 2a. The gluing step can be performed manually or mechanically.
According to one embodiment, several metal sheets 3 can be used to cover the first layer of varnish 2a or any other layer of varnish more superficial than said first layer 2a. Advantageously, the metal foils 3 are distributed homogeneously over the lacquer layer, that is to say with the least possible overlap between the sheets 3 and minimizing the surfaces of the uncovered lacquer layer. Such an embodiment allows an excellent report rendered aesthetic / economic cost. Advantageously, the metal sheet comprises at least one metal, preferably a transition metal. According to one embodiment, the metal sheet mainly comprises a transition metal chosen from copper, silver, titanium, gold, platinum and palladium. According to an even more preferred embodiment, the metal sheet is made of copper, silver, titanium, gold, platinum or palladium.
Such a thickness gives the plating a good compromise between the aesthetic rendering, the economic cost and the protective function in particular vis-à-vis the mechanical and thermal stresses to which the brake calipers are subjected. According to a preferred embodiment, the bonding of at least one metal sheet 3 to the first layer of varnish 2a is performed before complete curing of the first layer of varnish 2a.
The bonding of at least one metal foil 3 to the first layer 2a is followed by a step of applying, on the free face of the metal foil 3, at least a second layer of varnish 2b.
Pour ce faire, le vernis présente avantageusement une viscosité à 25°C de 300 à 500 mPa.s.As for the first layer of varnish 2a, the application of the second layer of varnish 2b can be carried out by any means known to those skilled in the art. Advantageously, those skilled in the art will choose the most appropriate means for depositing uniform layers, that is to say layers substantially free of bubbles or holes and having a constant thickness. To do this, the varnish advantageously has a viscosity at 25 ° C of 300 to 500 mPa.s.
The application of at least a second layer of a varnish 2b can be done on all or part of the surface of the element 1 covered with metal sheets 3.
According to a preferred embodiment, the application, on the free face of the metal sheet 3, of at least a second layer of varnish 2b is carried out after complete hardening of the first layer of lacquer 2a associated with the metal sheet 3 Such an embodiment makes it possible in particular to obtain a plating which is more resistant to thermal stresses and to deformations. According to an embodiment illustrated in FIG. 2, the steps of bonding at least one metal foil 3 to a lacquer layer 2a, 2b, 2c, etc. and the application step to the free face of the metal foil 3, at least one second layer of varnish 2b, 2c, ... can be repeated one or more times. The repetition of these steps can be performed as many times as necessary until a perfect visual appearance and excellent mechanical and thermal protection of the element 1 are obtained.
The thickness of these layers is advantageously chosen to ensure the protection of the metal sheets 3 during the use of the element 1, in particular when using the element 1 in a vehicle braking system . According to a particular embodiment, the application of the first layer of varnish 2a is preceded by a surface treatment of the element 1 selected from sanding and needle-gun treatment. Such a treatment makes it possible in particular a good adhesion of the first layer of varnish 2a. The surface treatment of the element 1 is advantageously carried out until a surface rough to the touch on the part of the element 1 to be covered with the first layer of varnish 2a. As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, the plating method makes it possible in particular to obtain an element 1 covered with a plating, said plating comprising successively at least: a first layer of varnish 2a deposited on the element 1, a metal sheet 3 comprising two upper main faces 3a and lower 3b, the lower face 3b being in contact with the first layer of varnish 2a, a second layer of varnish 2b deposited on the upper face 3a of the metal sheet 3. Advantageously, the element 1 comprises a plurality of metal sheets 3, said metal sheets 3 being between two layers of varnish. An element 1 as described above withstands especially high temperatures such as those supported by brake calipers. Such an element 1 also has excellent corrosion resistance and its aesthetic appearance is little or not impaired by the thermal expansion to which the element 1 can be subjected, in particular when it is a question of brake caliper.
