Abstract
Description
The technical field of the invention is that of the processes for producing granules of explosive compositions that can be used by compression. These compositions are generally used for the loading of projectiles of medium caliber (caliber between 20 mm and 50 mm) or for the production of priming relays. The known compositions are in the form of granules of a material combining one or more explosives and a binder. The patent FR2801883 describes a known explosive composition and its method of preparation. This composition combines an insensitive explosive such as oxynitrotriazol with a conventional explosive such as hexogen (RDX) or octogen (HMX) and an aluminum powder. These materials in the powdery state are associated with a binder which is a particular wax, soluble in gasoline F (mixture of hydrocarbons from the distillation of oils between 100 ° C and 160 ° C - the F stage of distilling columns). The essence makes it possible to solubilize the wax to allow the coating of the powdery materials in a kneader then the production of granules. The main disadvantage of this composition and its manufacturing process is that they use a solvent (gasoline F) which requires precautions with regard to its implementation because of the harmful vapors which are released during coating and granulation. This solvent also creates an explosive atmosphere, which requires the implementation of special measures at the workstation. It will be appreciated that all other known compressible compositions also employ a binder which is solubilized with a solvent which is in most cases a hydrocarbon or an organic solvent (often of the ketone family), different nature, but just as toxic and also generating an explosive atmosphere zone. There is therefore today a need for developing an explosive composition in compressible granules and a process for obtaining such a composition that allows not to use a solvent, thus avoiding such drawbacks. The process according to the invention makes it possible to obtain granules of composition which can then be compressed in the body of the projectiles or in the ignition relay body. According to a particular embodiment, the granules of the composition comprise one or more powder explosives with reduced vulnerability. This composition and this method thus makes it possible to produce medium-caliber projectiles or primers with reduced vulnerability. With the method according to the invention the composition can be implemented using the conventional methods of loading ammunition of medium caliber or pyrotechnic relays, that is to say by compression. The industrial tool can therefore be used without major modifications, which reduces costs and investments. Thus, the subject of the invention is a method for producing granules with an explosive composition that can be compressed from a powder material comprising at least one powdery explosive, characterized in that it comprises at least one dye stage. coating in a kneader of the powder material with an inert binder, liquid or pasty, and capable of curing by radiation or bombardment polymerization, in particular by ultraviolet radiation, this coating step being followed by a polymerization step in which the kneading is continued under a first source of radiation to cause a start of polymerization of the binder, the mixture then being subjected to a granulation step followed by a baking step in which the polymerization is completed under a second radiation source. The inert binder may consist of a photosensitive resin based on natural or synthetic resin. For example, a photosensitive resin or a photosensitive adhesive whose base resin is chosen from among the following resins: acrylic resin, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, silicone resin, anaerobic resin, polyester resin, may be chosen as a binder. Advantageously, the binder may be an ultraviolet radiation-polymerizable photoresist, an acrylated polyurethane resin. According to a particular embodiment, the step of coating with the binder is preceded by a dry mixing step of the components of the powder material. According to a particular embodiment, the baking step is conducted for a period greater than 20 hours. The powder material may advantageously comprise at least one reduced-susceptibility powder explosive chosen from: oxynitrotriazol (ONTA), triaminotrinitrobenzene (TATB), 1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitro-ethene (DADNE), Guanylurea dinitramide (GUDN). The powder material may furthermore comprise at least one complementary explosive, such as hexogen or octogen. The powder material may comprise aluminum. The invention also relates to a compressible explosive material 30 consisting of granules of an explosive composition comprising at least one powdered explosive coated with an inert binder, a material characterized in that the inert binder is a coating material whose hardening has was obtained by radiation polymerization or bombardment, especially by ultraviolet radiation. According to one embodiment, the binder may be a photosensitive resin whose base resin will be selected from the following resins: acrylic resin, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, silicone resin, anaerobic resin, polyester resin. The binder may in particular be a photosensitive resin polymerizable with ultraviolet radiation, acrylic-type polyurethane resin. Advantageously, the compressible explosive material may comprise at least one powdered explosive of reduced vulnerability selected from oxynitrotriazol (ONTA), triaminotrinitrobenzene (TATB), 1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitro-ethene (DADNE), guanylurea dinitramide (or GUDN). The compressible explosive material may preferably comprise from 5% to 15% by weight of polymerizable binder. The compressible explosive material may in particular have the following composition, in which the proportions are expressed as percentages of the total mass of the material produced: - explosive with reduced vulnerability 40% to 50%, - explosive (s) complementary (s) 25 % to 35%, aluminum 10% to 20%, polymerizable binder 5% to 15%. The invention will be better understood using the additional description which follows with reference to the attached figure which schematizes the various steps of the method according to the invention. The explosive material according to the invention is a compressible explosive material which is formed, like the other known compressible materials, by granules of an explosive composition comprising at least one powdered explosive coated with an inert binder.
The explosive composition itself comprises one or more powdery explosive materials. The particle size of the explosive material (s) used will be chosen to be less than or equal to 800 micrometers, and preferably between 315 micrometers and 800 micrometers for hexogen (RDX) and between 200 micrometers and 400 micrometers for Oxynitrotriazol (ONTA). . Explosives conventionally used in compressible compositions, such as: hexogen (RDX), octogen (HMX), oxynitrotriazol (ONTA), triaminotrinitrobenzene (TATB), 1,1 diamino-2,2-dinitro-ethene or DADNE (better known under the name FOX7), guanylurea-dinitramide (or GUDN or FOX12), 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4, 6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane (better known as CL-20). It is advantageous to use at least one pulverulent explosive with reduced vulnerability. Explosive materials with reduced vulnerability are now essential for the design of ammunition. They make it possible to produce munitions that resist without detonation to aggressions such as the bullet impacts or the fires. Among the explosives with reduced vulnerability we can use: oxynitrotriazol (ONTA), triaminotrinitro25 benzene (TATB), FOX7 and FOX12 mentioned above. The insensitive explosive will preferably be associated with one or more additional powdered explosives for increasing the detonation performance of the material. For example, it is possible to use hexogen (RDX) or octogen (HMX) or CL20 (optionally combined with each other). Other powdery materials may be added to the explosive powders which may have an additional effect, eg aluminum powder, to increase the blast effect when detonating the material. If aluminum is thus used, its particle size will be chosen less than or equal to 100 micrometers. According to an essential characteristic of the invention, the explosive material is coated with an inert binder which is a coating material whose curing has been obtained by radiation or bombardment polymerization, in particular by ultraviolet radiation. Such a material is currently not used to produce granules of compressible explosive material. It has been proposed in EP1101076 to coat a pyrotechnic initiating substance with an ultraviolet radiation curable resin to manufacture an initiator. However, the drop of resin was then completely cured in situ on a resistive element. It was not a question of making an explosive material in the form of granules and independently of any ammunition or part of ammunition, material which is intended to be compressed later in a body of projectile or relay. The binder chosen will be a photosensitive resin whose base resin will be selected from the following resins: acrylic resin, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, silicone resin, anaerobic resin, polyester resin. One can also choose a bicomponent adhesive and (or glue) photosensitive, for example based on epoxy resin associated with a hardener (for example a glue such as that sold under the brand Loctite 3336). Good results have been obtained with a photosensitive resin of the acrylated polyurethane type. An example of such an acrylated polyurethane resin is the resin sold under the reference UV 40-250 by Humiseal. One could also use the resin referenced UV40 of the same manufacturer (also acrylated polyurethane resin). These resins are polymerizable with ultraviolet radiation.
The manufacturing method according to the invention will now be described with reference to the attached figure. It comprises the following steps: During a first step, called the "dry mixing step", (step A) all the pulverulent materials P1, P2, PN are put in place in a mixing cube 1. Such a tool is classic in the field of powder mixtures. The cubic vessel 1, which has an opening closed by a door la, is pivotally mounted on an axis 3 driven in rotation by a motor 2. The mixer 1 is integral with a frame 4. There is shown here a drive shaft 3 horizontal. It would be possible to implement a cube 1 mounted on a vertical axis. The powdery materials P include the explosive (s) and the additive (s) (such as aluminum). The mixing cube 1 makes it possible to obtain a homogeneous mixture of the different powders. During step B, called "coating step", the mixture of powders (or Pm powder material) is then placed in the tank 5a of a kneader 5 and the binder L is added thereto ( such as a resin or a glue which will be put in place the two components simultaneously). Different types of kneaders are usable. It is preferred to use a so-called Z-blade kneader. Other kneaders are also conceivable such as a planetary mixer or bezel. These latter tools are more particularly adapted to the use of energy materials sensitive to mechanical stresses such as CL-20 or fine RDX.
The kneader 5 comprises two blades 6a and 6b which are shown schematically by cylinders in the figure (steps B and C). The blades are rotated by a motor 7 which is connected to the blades by gear trains 8 for driving the blades in a direction opposite to each other. Such a machine is conventional in the field of kneading and the use of powdery products. The Pm 10 powders are kneaded (thus coated) with the binder L for a duration of the order of 30 minutes. This time is a function of the amount of material used and is adapted to obtain a homogeneous paste in which all grains of powdery materials are coated with the binder. According to an essential characteristic of the invention, mixing (step C) is continued by positioning above the tank 5a a first source of radiation 9 (ultraviolet lamp 9). This lamp will have a radiant power greater than 8 W / m and less than 80 20 W / m. The power of the lamp is adjusted so as not to create hot spots that could cause an initiation of the explosive components. It is easy for those skilled in the art to adapt the power and positioning of the lamp to the needs of the process and the materials under consideration. An increase in the power radiated by the lamp causes an increase in the surface temperature of the material. A decrease in the lamp-to-material distance will also have the effect of increasing the surface temperature. The increase in power also makes it possible to reduce the polymerization time. With the invention does not cause a complete polymerization but increases the viscosity of the material so as to obtain a homogeneous mixture that can be subsequently granulated.
The effect of the UV radiation is to cause the beginning of polymerization of the binder. This results in an increase in the viscosity of the composition contained in the tank 5a without the curing of the binder is complete.
This stirring is continued under UV radiation for a duration of the order of 30 minutes. This time will be adapted by the skilled person depending on the amount of materials used and the desired viscosity for mixing the composition to allow granulation.
At the end of this kneading, the material M obtained is removed from the kneader 5 and introduced (step D) into an oscillating granulator 10. Such equipment is conventional in the pharmaceutical field. It consists of an oscillating arm 17 cross section (here a cross with four branches) which is pivotally mounted on an axis 18. This arm is supported on a grid 19 curve of mesh size 2000 micrometers and it has a oscillating movement, ie pivoting intermittently in one direction then in the other. The oscillating arm 17 is actuated by a motor (not shown). The oscillation speed is adapted according to the sensitivity of the composition. The granulator makes it possible to transform the material M into granules 14 having a diameter which is a function of the mesh of the grid 19 used, that is to say for a grid of 2000 micrometers, granules 14 of between 200 and 1600 micrometers in diameter, with a majority of granules between 315 and 800 micrometers. These granules 14 are recovered on a plate 11 made of stainless steel. During step E (or steaming), the granules 14 are arranged, preferably in a thin layer, in the plate 11 which is disposed in an enclosure 13 and under a second source of ultraviolet radiation 12. This implementation layer thin optimizes the polymerization of the binder under the UV lamp. The radiation characteristics of the second lamp 12 are similar to those of the first lamp 9. During this step, a stirring of the composition is carried out for 5 min, that is to say a displacement of the granules 14 with the aid of a tool, like a rake. This mixing prevents the adhesion of the granules. The brew aerates the granules, takes them off the plate 11 and improves their drying. The granules 14 are then maintained in the chamber 13, under the second ultraviolet radiation source 12, for a period greater than 20 hours, for example for 24 hours. This baking step makes it possible to complete the polymerization of the binder coating the granules 14. The granules 14 are finally subjected to a delustering step (step F), during which the granules are passed through a sieve. having a mesh size of 1.5 mm which makes it possible to separate the granules from each other. The granules 14 are finally (step G) stored in bags 16. The granules of the material thus obtained are subsequently used to carry out the loading of medium-caliber projectiles by compression or to make priming relays. The polymerized binder ensures the cohesion of each granule 14 of the material obtained. The granule, however, retains satisfactory compressibility characteristics allowing its implementation by compression (for example: compression at room temperature to 150 Mega Pascals). By way of example, the following materials were thus produced (percentage proportions of the total mass of the material produced): Example 1 - 46% oxynitrotriazol, - 31% hexogen, - 13% aluminum, - 10% polymerizable binder. The polymerizable binder is an acrylated polyurethane type resin (UV40-250 or UV40). UV mixing (step C) was carried out for 30 minutes. The final polymerization (stoving step E) was conducted for 24 hours. This material was compressed in a 20 mm diameter matrix using conventional compression tooling. With the same process, it is possible to make the following compositions: Example 2 - oxynitrotriazol 50%, - hexogen 35%, 20 - aluminum 10%, - binder polymerizable 5%. Example 3 - 40% oxynitrotriazol, 25% hexogen, 10% aluminum, 15% polymerizable binder. Example 4 - 50% oxynitrotriazol, - 15% CL20, - 15% hexogen, - 10% aluminum, - 10% polymerizable binder.
It is also possible to substitute in the previous examples DADNE (FOX7) or GUDN (Foxl2) with CL20 and / or ONTA.
As a variant it will be possible to use other types of polymerizable binder: for example a two-component photosensitive adhesive such as a glue based on epoxy resin. Other explosives with reduced vulnerability may also be used than oxynitrotriazol. Other explosives may finally be used to produce a granulated material according to the invention. Explosives used singly or in combination, possibly non-insensitive explosives.
For example, it is possible to produce hexogen or octogen-containing granules and CL20 and coated with a polymerizable binder.
