Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for calibrating an RFID reader comprising a transmitting antenna, initially calibrated so as to deliver electromagnetic signals of calibrated transmission power Pc. It extends, as an essential means for the implementation of this method, an RFID reader with a calibration circuit. RFID readers are usually used to activate transponders in their field of action, and to receive identification data from these transponders. For example, in the automotive field, RFID readers are thus used to authorize the locking / unlocking of the door locking means, and thus allow access to vehicles after identification of radio frequency transponders incorporating dedicated identification data. to each vehicle, and adapted to be activated by a radio frequency signal. One of the determining parameters of these RFID readers lies in the reading range of the latter, in particular determined by the transmission power of the electromagnetic signals through the transmitting antenna. However, this transmission power proves to fluctuate as a function of parameters such as aging of the RFID reader, surrounding temperature, etc., and these drifts lead, in practice, to limiting the performance of the RFID readers with respect to their performance. potential, so as to produce products adapted to meet the announced performance despite substantial drift of operating characteristics. The present invention aims to overcome this drawback and its main purpose is to provide a method of calibrating an RFID reader to self-calibrate the transmission power of this reader at a lower cost. For this purpose, the invention provides a method for calibrating an RFID reader comprising a transmitting antenna, initially calibrated so as to deliver electromagnetic signals with a calibrated transmission power Pc. According to the invention, this method consists in: - arranging a coil in the vicinity and in the field of action of the transmitting antenna, in a preliminary phase, - controlling the transmission, by the RFID reader, of a electromagnetic signal of calibrated power Pc, and - to measure, during this transmission, a value Vc representative of the electric voltage across the coil, and when using the RFID reader, - to measure, punctually, a representative value of the electrical voltage Vn across the coil when emitting an electromagnetic signal, - and when there is a difference between the calibrated value Vc and the measured value Vn, to modify the power supply of the transmitting antenna of in order to correct the transmission power of the electromagnetic signals with a proportionality coefficient equal to Vc / Vn.
It should be noted that, in the present patent application, the term "RFID reader" means a reader / recorder implementing the radio identification method designated by the abbreviation RFID ("Radio Frequency IDentification"). ), that is to say a reader / recorder consisting of a circuit capable of emitting electromagnetic energy through a transmitting antenna, and an information receiving and decoding electronics sent by radio frequency transponders , also known as "tags" or "tags" RFID, activated by the electromagnetic energy emitted by said reader / recorder. This calibration method, which is not very constraining in terms of implementation because it is very flexible, therefore makes it possible to maintain the performance of the RFID readers substantially constant despite the variations of the operating parameters, by means of associating with the RFID reader a low calibration circuit. cost price comprising, principally, a reel. The direct consequence of this method lies in the possibility of increasing the performance of the RFID readers without any risk of degradation of the announced performance related to the conditions of use of this reader. For the purpose of increasing the reliability of this calibration method, and according to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, a sliding average of the values V n measured during the emission of electromagnetic signals is calculated so as to using said sliding average for the purpose of determining the evolution of the measured values with respect to the calibrated value Vc. For the same purpose of efficiency, a coil is advantageously used, each turn of which consists of a homothetic turn of the turns of the transmitting antenna of the RFID reader. Furthermore, with a view to modifying the supply of the transmitting antenna, and according to a first advantageous variant of the invention: an RFID reader having a parallel LC circuit consisting of the transmitting antenna and of a plurality of capacitors arranged in such a way that the number of active capacitors is adjustable, the supply of the transmitting antenna is modified by means of a modification of the resonance frequency of the circuit LC, obtained by an adjustment of the number of active abilities. This modification of the supply of the transmitting antenna may also consist, according to a second advantageous variant of the invention, of modifying the power supply of the transmitting antenna by means of a modification of the excitation power of the transmitting antenna. said transmitting antenna, which can in particular be activated by a software command. The invention extends to an RFID reader comprising a transmitting antenna, initially calibrated so as to deliver electromagnetic signals of calibrated transmission power Pc, said reader further comprising, according to the invention, a transmission circuit. calibration of the power of the electromagnetic signals emitted by the said RFID reader, comprising a coil disposed in the vicinity and in the field of action of the transmitting antenna, adapted to enable a value representative of the electrical voltage across the terminals of the said antenna to be measured; coil. Such an RFID reader therefore comprises, in addition to the conventional components, a circuit adapted to emit electromagnetic energy through an antenna, and an electronic device for receiving and decoding information addressed by transponders, a calibration circuit adapted to deliver, to a device collecting data transmitted by the RFID reader, values representative of the electrical voltage across the coil of this calibration circuit.
In addition, the calibration circuit advantageously comprises, according to the invention, an electrical resistance of suitable value to achieve a calibration circuit having a high impedance not likely to absorb the electromagnetic energy emitted by the RFID reader. This calibration circuit also advantageously comprises, according to the invention, signal processing means representative of the electrical voltage across the coil, comprising a current rectifier, and filtering means comprising at least one capacitor. Other features and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the detailed description which follows with reference to the accompanying drawings which represent by way of non-limiting example a preferred embodiment. In these drawings: FIG. 1 is a functional electronic diagram of an RFID reader according to the invention connected to a central data collection and control unit of said RFID reader, and FIG. 2 is a schematic view of a transmitting antenna and a coil according to the invention. The RFID reader 10 according to the invention shown in FIG. 1 connected to a central unit 6, is designed to emit electromagnetic signals having substantially constant transmission powers. For this purpose, this RFID reader 10 comprises, in the first place, an electronics 1 for receiving and decoding information addressed by transponders, and data received from a central control unit 6 for controlling the power supply means 3. a transmitting antenna 2. These power supply means 3 furthermore comprise, according to the invention, a plurality of capacitors C1, C2,... Cn arranged, on the one hand, so that the number of active capacitors is adjustable. , and on the other hand, so that the active capacitors form an LC circuit parallel with the transmitting antenna 2. This RFID reader further comprises a calibration circuit comprising, first of all, a coil 4 formed of a or two turns (in the example shown in the figures, a single turn) connected to an analog / digital input 5 of the central unit 6, by an electrical connection 7. In addition, as shown in Figure 2, each turn (in the example the coil) of the coil 4 is nested in the The turns of the transmitting antenna 2. The calibration circuit furthermore comprises an electrical resistance 8 interposed on the electrical connection 7 and of a value adapted to form a very high impedance circuit that is not capable of absorbing the electromagnetic energy. transmitted by the transmitting antenna 2. This calibration circuit further comprises means 9 for processing the signal representative of the electrical voltage across the coil, comprising a diode 13 and filtering means comprising a capacitor 11.
In addition, the central unit 6 is programmed to present a switch function schematized at 12, able to be switched between a closed state and an open state of discharge of the capacitor 11. According to the invention, the central unit 6 is therefore connected, on the one hand, to the coil 4 so as to receive a signal representative of the electric voltage across said coil and on the other hand to the electronics 1 of the RFID reader, and this central unit 6 is programmed, in the first place, in a prior phase, for controlling the emission, by the transmitting antenna 2, of an electromagnetic signal of calibrated power Pc, and for measuring and storing, during this transmission, a value Vc representative of the electric voltage across the coil 4. Subsequently, when using the RFID reader, the central unit 6 is programmed to: - control point measurements of the value representative of the voltage Vn at the terminals of the coil 4 when emitting an electromagnetic signal, and, when there is a difference between the calibrated value Vc and the measured values Vn, the difference whose materiality is estimated from the calculation of a moving average of the measured values. , control a modification of the supply of the transmitting antenna 2, so as to correct the transmission power of the electromagnetic signals of a proportionality coefficient equal to Vc / Vn. According to the example shown in FIG. 1, this modification of the supply of the transmitting antenna furthermore consists in modifying the resonance frequency of the circuit LC 2-3 by an adjustment of the number of capacitors C1, C2, ... Cn active. However, this modification can also be performed from a software command generated by the central unit 6, intended to modify the excitation power of the transmitting antenna 2. The RFID reader according to the invention therefore consists of a reader incorporating means for calibrating the output power of this reader. Of course, during the calibration phase, the antenna 4 is subjected only to the magnetic field emitted by the antenna 2. Therefore any difference between the calibrated value Vc and the measured values Vn can be compensated by a modification of the calibration of the antenna. antenna RFID reader. This modification of the calibration is of course intended to ensure that the RFID reader always transmits signals at the calibrated power Pc.
