Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a data measuring system comprising one or more sensors disposed on the outer wall of a metal drill pipe.
DISCUSSION OF THE PRIOR ART FIG. 1 is a sectional view very schematically showing a portion of a well 1 drilled in a zone of soil and / or rock 3 in order to access a not shown underground aquifer. for example a sheet of water or hydrocarbons.
Dans certains cas, on prévoit d'injecter un B10387 A casing 5 is provided inside the well to prevent any damage to the walls of the hole from damaging the well, for example by partially or completely blocking it. The casing 5 is in fact a relatively thick pipe, for example steel, which is inserted into the well at the same time as drilled or immediately after drilling. For example, for certain oil drilling, a casing with a circular section of 15 to 20 centimeters in internal diameter and a thickness greater than 1 cm is used. The casing 5 is intended to remain in the well for the duration of use of the latter, that is to say generally for several years. In some cases, it is planned to inject a B10387
Fluid 7, for example cement, between the outer wall of the casing and the inner wall of the well. Throughout the exploitation period of the well, it is desired to have information on the external environment of the casing 5. For example, it is desired to be able to know the temperature outside the casing, the pressure and / or the composition. fluids surrounding the casing, etc. Such information makes it possible in particular to optimize and secure the exploitation of the sheet.
Various sensors may be placed on the outer wall of the casing 5. In FIG. 1, a sensor 9 is shown attached to the outer wall of the casing and protected by a casing 11, for example a steel casing. The housing 11 makes it possible in particular to prevent the sensor 9 from being damaged by shocks against the walls of the well, during the introduction of the casing. The housing 11 is not waterproof. On the contrary, it is specifically adapted so that the fluids capable of surrounding the casing are in direct contact with the sensor 9. For the supply of the sensor 9, and for the transmission of the data measured by this sensor, a cable of connection 13 is disposed along the outer wall of the casing, connecting the sensor to the surface. The distance between the sensor 9 and the surface being able to reach several thousand meters, the connection cable 13 is particularly expensive, and its installation is particularly delicate. This cost and difficulty of installation are even higher than the number of sensors provided in the periphery of the casing is high. Furthermore, the cable 13 may be damaged if the casing rubs against the walls of the well, for example at the time of introduction of the casing in the well. The repair of the cable 13 can only pass through the extraction and replacement of the casing, which, in practice, is unthinkable because of the prohibitive cost of such an operation.
B10387 Abstract Thus, an object of an embodiment of the present invention is to propose a data measurement system comprising a sensor placed on the outer wall of the casing of a borehole, this system at least partially overcoming the disadvantages of the existing solutions. An object of an embodiment of the present invention is to provide such a system that does not require the provision of a cable for connecting the sensor to the surface.
An embodiment of the present invention provides a data sensor comprising a first piezoelectric element for converting the mechanical energy of an acoustic wave into electrical power supply of the sensor, and a second piezoelectric element for converting an electrical data signal. the sensor into an acoustic wave, this sensor being adapted to be used in a measurement system as above. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the first wave is emitted at a resonant frequency of the casing. According to one embodiment of the present invention, the method comprises a preliminary step of searching for the resonance frequency of the casing. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS These and other objects, features, and advantages will be set forth in detail in the following description of particular non-limiting embodiments in connection with the accompanying figures, in which: FIG. described, is a sectional view schematically showing a data measurement system comprising a sensor placed on the outer wall of a casing, this sensor being connected to the surface by a cable disposed along the outer wall of the casing ; B10387
Fig. 2 is a sectional view schematically showing a data measurement system comprising a sensor disposed on the outer wall of a casing; Fig. 3 is an electrical diagram showing an embodiment of the measurement system of Fig. 2; Figure 4 is a sectional view schematically showing an embodiment of a sensor adapted to the measuring system described in relation to Figures 2 and 3; and FIG. 5 is a sectional view schematically representing an alternative embodiment of the sensor of FIG. 4. Detailed Description For the sake of clarity, the same elements have been designated with the same references in the various figures and, in addition, the various figures are not drawn to scale. It will be noted in particular that, in FIGS. 1, 2, 4 and 5, representing sensors placed on the outer wall of a casing, the dimensions of the sensors have been greatly exaggerated with respect to the dimensions of the casing.
To avoid the prediction of a data communication cable between the sensor and the surface, one could have thought of a wireless communication system by electromagnetic waves. However, the fact that the casing and the protective housing of the sensor are generally made of steel makes this type of communication impossible. As a result, and because of the large distances that can separate the sensor from the surface, such a communication system is not suitable. Moreover, this would not solve the problem of the power supply of the sensor. FIG. 2 is a sectional view schematically showing an example of a data measurement system comprising a sensor 21 disposed on the outer wall of a casing 5. The sensor 21 is protected by a casing 11 of the type described in FIG. In contrast to the systems described in connection with FIG. 1, no power and / or communication cable connects the sensor 21 to the surface.

L'amplitude de ces B10387 According to one aspect of an embodiment of the present invention, the sensor 21 comprises a piezoelectric element for converting the mechanical energy of an acoustic wave (sonic or ultrasonic) into electrical power supply of the sensor, and an element piezoelectric (possibly the same) to convert an electrical data signal from the sensor into an acoustic wave. To make a measurement using the sensor 21, it comes down inside the casing, facing the sensor, a probe 23 comprising a device for transmitting / receiving acoustic waves. A wave 25, adapted to excite the piezoelectric element for supplying the sensor, is emitted by the probe 23. The electrical energy resulting from this excitation enables the sensor 21 to carry out a desired measurement, and then to transmit in return a modulated acoustic wave 27 including the result of the measurement performed. The probe 23 is adapted to receive the acoustic data signal 27, and to record the result of the measurement in an internal memory or to directly transmit this result to surface equipment, via a communication cable connecting the probe to the surface. In the example shown, the probe 23 has the shape of a vertical cylinder portion comprising a transmitter 28 in its upper part, and a receiver 29 in its lower part. The emission and reception of acoustic waves by the probe 23 are for example made using one or more piezoelectric elements. Note that the transmitter 28 and the receiver 29 may be confused. There is a tool, widely used in the field of oil drilling, consisting of an acoustic probe connected to a cable 30, adapted to be lowered into the casing, for example using a winch, to analyze the quality of the oil. the ring of cement surrounding some casings. As it descends into the casing, the probe emits acoustic waves, and detects the resulting vibrations of the casing. The amplitude of these B10387
7 vibrations can locate any insufficiently cemented areas around the casing. According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, this type of existing drilling tool is used to feed the sensor 21 placed on the outer wall of the casing 5, and to communicate with this sensor. The data measured by the sensor 21 may be transmitted to the surface by an electric cable 30. To optimize the relative positioning of the probe relative to the sensor during each measurement, it may be provided to associate with each sensor a positioning means. This positioning means comprises for example a magnet 32 fixed to the casing in the vicinity of the sensor and a magnetometer 34 integral with the probe.
In this diagram, the transmitter and the receiver of the acoustic probe are represented by a a single piezoelectric element 23 arranged facing the sensor 21. The sensor 21 comprises a piezoelectric element 41 adapted to be excited by a wave 25 emitted by the probe 23. A capacitor 43 is connected to the terminals of the piezoelectric element 41 via a voltage rectifier 45, for example a diode bridge. The power supply terminals of a data measuring device 47 (constituting the actual sensor) are connected to the terminals of the capacitor 43 via a controllable switch 49. In this example, the switch 49 is normally open. , and its closure is controlled by a device 51 for measuring the charge level of the capacitor 43. The data measuring device 47 further comprises output terminals connected to the electrodes of the piezoelectric element 41. During a first phase of use of the system, the probe 23, positioned opposite the sensor, emits a wave 25 which causes the excitation of the piezoelectric element 41, B10387
The charging speed of the capacitor 43 depends in particular on the amplitude and the frequency of the wave 25. When the charge level of the capacitor 43 reaches a certain threshold, the switch 49 is closed by means of the device 51. The data measuring device 47 is thus powered and able to perform a measurement. When the measurement is complete, the device 47 transmits, via output terminals 52 and 53, an electrical data signal. This signal is converted by the piezoelectric element 41 into an acoustic wave 27 to the probe 23. In this example, the sensor comprises a single piezoelectric element 41 adapted both to receive the power supply wave. 25, and to emit the data wave 27. It will be noted that separate piezoelectric elements may be used to implement these two functions. Furthermore, to avoid interference between the supply wave 25 and the data wave 27, it will be possible to interrupt the emission of the wave 25 before the wave 27 is emitted by the sensor. It can also be provided that the supply wave 25 is transmitted continuously, but that the data wave 27 is an acoustic signal modulated at a frequency different from that of the wave 25. According to a preferred mode of use of the proposed system, the wave 25 is transmitted at a frequency close to the resonance frequency of the casing at the sensor. This maximizes the amount of mechanical energy transmitted to the piezoelectric element 41 of the sensor. This resonance frequency can be determined by causing the probe to scan a frequency range and by measuring the maximum of the wave reflected by the casing. Fig. 4 is a sectional view schematically showing an embodiment of a sensor of the type described B10387.
The piezoelectric element 41 has the shape of a square or rectangular surface and is fixed by bonding or by any other means to a portion of the outer wall of the casing 5. Electrodes, not shown, are arranged on either side of the piezoelectric element. FIG. 5 is a sectional view schematically showing a preferred embodiment variant of the sensor of FIG. 4, in which the piezoelectric element 41 forms a ring around the casing 5. This arrangement of the piezoelectric element makes it possible to maximize the amount of mechanical energy converted into electrical power supply of the sensor. Particular embodiments of the present invention have been described. Various variations and modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art. In particular, the invention is not restricted to the sensor scheme described in connection with FIG. 3, nor to the mechanical sensor arrangements described with reference to FIGS. 2, 4 and 5. One skilled in the art will be able to perform the desired operation using other sensor and / or probe configurations. It will be possible to use any electrical energy storage means adapted to replace the capacitor 43 of FIG. 3. Furthermore, it has been mentioned above the use of piezoelectric elements to convert the mechanical energy of acoustic waves. in electrical energy and vice versa. Any other means adapted to convert the mechanical energy of an acoustic wave into electrical energy and / or vice versa can be used.
Furthermore, the proposed data measurement system can be adapted to other types of installations than drilling, and in particular to any type of installation including pipes whose outer walls are difficult to access.
