The present invention relates to a pedal for a vehicle. It mainly relates to a pedal having a core, adapted to be articulated relative to the vehicle body, having an enlarged free end accessible to the user. The pedal also includes a pad covering this enlarged end; the shoe cooperating with fixing means to be immobilized on the enlarged end of the core. Such a pedal is for example described in FR2891788, where a pad covers the core of the pedal at its widened end accessible to the user. The widened end of the core and the pad each have passage orifices for positioning several locking members. These locking members, which are positioned at the visible face of the pad, have an external appearance adapted 1s to integrate with the shape of the pad. Such pads, are generally intended for vehicles rather "typical sport", and ensure better adhesion between the pedals and soles of the driver's shoes. For vehicles belonging to the same range but not "typed sport", the pedal is left without pad and the widened end of the pedal is then directly skid, becoming visible. However, for reasons of standardization, the soul of the pedals must remain identical whatever the typing of the vehicle. Thus, in the case of a vehicle having no foot pad attached to the pedal, it is desirable that the fastening means are not directly visible to the driver and that the pedal keeps a similar overall size whether or not equipped a reported shoe.
The object of the invention consists in proposing a web of a pedal and a shoe comprising fastening means, with the fastening means not being directly visible to the user, and in addition to maintaining an identical width of the pedals whether or not equipped with pads.
For this purpose, the subject of the invention is a vehicle pedal comprising a core capable of being articulated with respect to the vehicle body, the core comprising an enlarged free end accessible to the driver, a shoe attached to the widened free end. and covering said end, and fastening means for securing the pad on said end. The attachment means cooperating with first and second opposite edges of the pad aligned in the main direction of the pedal. According to a first characteristic of the invention, the fastening means comprise only one screw. According to a second characteristic of the invention, the fastening means comprise first and second parts, the first part being disposed on the core, upstream of the widened end and the second part being disposed on the end portion of the 'soul. Such a pedal further comprises an elastomer sole interposed between the shoe and the widened end, said sole being in particular rubber. According to a first embodiment of the invention, the first edge of the pad forms a falling edge bearing against the end portion of the core. The free end of the first edge of the shoe forms a fixing lug penetrating into a cavity formed in the end portion of the core. The second edge of the pad extends upstream of the core, ending with two lateral tabs folded on either side of the core. The two legs form the two lateral faces of a yoke, having two openings, each opening coming opposite an opening in the core, allowing the passage of a screw.
According to a second embodiment of the invention, the first edge of the pad forms a falling edge bearing against the end portion of the core. The free end of the first edge of the pad has an opening positioned opposite a tapped hole arranged in the end portion of the core, allowing the passage of a screw. The second edge of the pad extends upstream of the soul, ending with two lateral tabs folded on both sides of the soul. The core comprises a notch formed in the width of the core, this notch being arranged upstream of the widened end. The extension of the second edge of the pad being positioned in abutment in the notch. The present invention also relates to a pad, of generally rectangular shape, intended to be positioned on the widened free end of the core of a pedal as described above. The pad has first and second parallel edges, the first edge forming a falling edge intended to bear against the end portion of the core, the second edge extending to end with two folded lateral tabs adapted to grip the soul of the pedal. One of the two edges comprises at least one opening adapted to cooperate with means for fixing the core. Other advantages and technical characteristics of the present invention will emerge more clearly in the light of the description which follows with reference to the figures of the appended drawings in which: FIG. 1 represents a partial view, in perspective, of the free end widened the soul of a pedal and an attached shoe covering this enlarged end according to a first embodiment of the invention; - Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the pad according to the first embodiment of the invention; - Figure 3 shows a side view in section, of the enlarged end of the core of the pedal and the pad covering this enlarged end according to the first embodiment of the invention; FIG. 4 represents a partial perspective view of the enlarged end of the web of a pedal and of a pad covering this widened end according to a second embodiment of the invention; - Figure 5 shows a perspective view of the pad according to the second embodiment of the invention; and FIG. 6 represents a sectional side view of the widened end of the pedal core and of the pad covering this widened end according to the second embodiment of the invention. In Figure 1 is shown in perspective a portion of a pedal 1 comprising a core 11 articulated relative to the body (not shown) of a motor vehicle. A pad 2 covers the core 11 at its widened end 12 accessible to the driver. Between the widened end 12 of the core 11 and the shoe 2 is interposed a sole 3 of elastomer. Such a sole 3 is, for example, made of rubber. The sole 3 is extended upwards by pins 31 projecting from the upper face of the pad 2, through orifices 21 formed in the pad 2, defining non-slip areas 20 on the surface of the pad 2. The pins 31 thus formed, are more or less protruding from the upper surface of the pad 2 according to the pedal thus equipped. For a brake pedal, the anti-slip effect being essential, the pins 31 extend far enough from the upper surface of the pad 2. On the other hand, for an accelerator pedal, the anti-slip effect is to be avoided, the presence of pins 31 is then justified only for the aesthetic homogeneity of the pedal; the pins 31 not to exceed the upper surface of the pad 2.
The pad 2 is more particularly visible in Figures 2 and 3 where it is shown in a first perspective view and in a second sectional view, as positioned on the enlarged end 12 of the core 11. In the direction main pedal 1, such a direction is generally understood as perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the pedal, the two opposite edges of the pad 2 is extended by two fastening tabs 22 and 23. The first fastening tab 22 form a falling edge abutting against an extreme edge 14 of the web 11 of the pedal 1, with the free end of the first fastening tab 22 curving on itself to penetrate a cavity 13 formed in the edge Extreme 14. By the end edge 14 of the core 11 of the pedal 1, is considered the lateral edge positioned at the free end of the pedal 1. The second fastening tab 23 forms a yoke 24 coming to grip the web 11 the pedal 1, upstream of the widened end 12. A screw 4 passes through the side walls of the yoke 24 and 15 of the core 11, thus keeping the shoe 2 in position. A nut 41 holds the screw 4 in position. The shoe 2 is thus held longitudinally in position between the two fastening tabs 22 and 23. The lateral retention of the shoe 2 being ensured by the yoke 24 of the second fastening tab 23, and by the lateral dimensioning of the free end of the first fastening tab 22 coming laterally abutting against the lateral edges of the cavity 13 receiving it. In the case of a metal core 11, in order to prevent metal noise from occurring with each movement of the pad 2, an elastomer sleeve may be interposed between the free end of the first fastening tab 22 and the inner surface of the cavity 13. The pad 2 has on its bottom peripheral surface a flange 25, extending downwards, defining a free spacing receiving the sole 3. The sole 3, positioned on the upper surface of the end widened 12 of the pedal 1, in the free spacing of the pad 2, is thus maintained in position. When placing the shoe 2 on the widened end 12, the sole 3 is previously positioned in the free spacing of the shoe 2. The free end of the first fixing lug 22 of the shoe 2 is positioned in the cavity 13. The shoe 2 is folded over the enlarged end 12, positioning the yoke 24 of the second fastening lug 23 against the core 11. The screw 4 can then be positioned, immobilizing the sole 3 and the shoe 2 in position on the enlarged end 12 of the core 11. Thus, when assembling the pad 2 on the pedal 1, a single screw 4 is necessary. In addition, on the core 11 of the pedal 1, the cavity 13 and the opening in the core 11 allowing the passage of the screw 4 are not directly visible by the driver. It is thus possible for all the pedals 1 to comprise such fastening elements, whether or not they are supplied with a pad 2. In FIG. 4 is shown a second embodiment of a pad 5 As previously described, the pad 5 covers the core 11 at its widened end 12 accessible to the user. Between the widened end 12 of the core 11 and the pad 5 is always inserted a sole 3 of elastomer. As before, the sole 3 is extended upwards by pins 31, projecting from the upper face of the pad 5, through orifices 51 formed in the pad 5, leaving non-slip areas on the surface of the pad 5. The pad 5 is more particularly visible in FIGS. 5 and 6, where it is shown, respectively, in a first perspective view and in a second sectional view, positioned on the widened end 12 of the web 11. As for the first embodiment, in the main direction of the pedal 6, the pad 5 is extended by two fixing lugs 52 and 53. The second fixing lug 53 is extended upstream of the widened end 62, coming into position. The free end of the second fixing lug 53 penetrates into a notch 63 formed in the width of the web 61. The second fixing lug 53 is extended laterally by two folded lugs 54 adapted to v tightening the web 61, now laterally positioned the second fastening lug 53 once it abuts in the notch 63. The first fastening lug 52 forms a falling edge abutting against the extreme edge 64 of the 6 of the pedal 6. A screw 7 is screwed into a threaded hole positioned on the end edge 64, passing through an opening formed in the first fastening tab 52, thereby immobilizing the first fastening tab 52. The second tab of FIG. fixation 53 being locked in abutment in the notch 63, the pad 5 is thus well immobilized on the widened end 62 of the pedal 6. As before, when the pad 5 is placed on the widened end 62, the sole 3 is previously positioned in a spacing left free under the pad 5. The pad 5 is then placed on the enlarged end 62 before being slid in the main direction of the pedal 6, io coming to position the end free tee of the second fixing lug 52 in the notch 63. The first fixing lug 52 is then found opposite the tapped hole formed on the extreme edge 64 of the core 61, allowing the screw 7 to be screwed, immobilizing both longitudinally and laterally the pad 5 on the enlarged end 62 of the core 61. is As for the first embodiment, on the core 61 of the pedal 6, the notch 63 and the tapped hole do not are not directly visible to the driver. It is thus possible that all the pedals 6 include such fasteners, and that the pedal 6 is where not delivered originally equipped with a pad 5.
Of course, the embodiments described above are not limiting in nature and further details and improvements can be made without departing from the scope of the invention as claimed. Thus, whether in the first or in the second embodiment, the screw allowing the mounting of the pad on the pedal can be replaced by a fixing clip or by a self-tapping screw penetrating a pre-drilled hole avoiding, in the first embodiment, the establishment of a bolt to hold the screw in position and, in the second embodiment, the tapping of the hole positioned on the extreme edge of the web of the pedal.
