Description
The invention relates to a dry friction lining, in particular for a clutch of a motor vehicle. It is known, for example from document FR 2 706 556 A1, to form these friction linings by compression and press baking of a friction material on a thin metal support, called "foil", the thickness of which is typically between about 0.1 and 1 mm, this metal support being previously prepared by shot blasting, sanding or chemical treatment and optionally receiving an adhesive layer for fixing the friction material. This metal support is essentially intended to reduce the bending and the creep of the friction material and therefore the incrustation phenomenon well known to those skilled in the art during the operation of the clutch (penetration into the friction material of the blades or progressive areas of the clutch disc). It also makes it possible to improve the resistance of the linings to centrifugation bursting. Since these linings are sensitive to thermal deformation, due to the differential thermal expansion of the friction material and the thin metal support, annular and radial grooves are formed in the friction material on the opposite side of the thin metal support. blocks, the radial grooves being deeper.
However, this has the disadvantage of weakening the friction lining at these radial grooves, the funds can deform or break during handling or use of the lining. The invention aims in particular to provide a simple, effective and economical solution to this problem.
It proposes for this purpose a clutch dry friction lining, in particular a motor vehicle, comprising a friction material fixed on a thin metal support or "foil" and formed with substantially radial ribs, characterized in that, to increase the flexural stiffness of the lining, the substantially radial grooves have a non-rectilinear shape between the inner and outer peripheries of the liner. In one embodiment of the invention, the substantially radial grooves are formed of several parts angularly or circumferentially offset relative to each other. The substantially radial grooves are for example made zigzag. Alternatively, the substantially radial grooves may be formed of staggered portions.
Advantageously, the friction material also comprises annular grooves which cut the substantially radial grooves and which connect to each other the different parts of the substantially radial grooves. Typically, the thickness of the friction material at the bottom of the substantially radial grooves is 0 to 1 mm, preferably 0 to 0.5 mm. The thickness of the foil is generally between 0.1 and 1 mm and is preferably between 0.1 and 0.5 mm. The invention also proposes a clutch disk, in particular for a motor vehicle, characterized in that it comprises friction linings of the type described above. The invention generally makes it possible to increase the bending stiffness of dry friction linings which are fixed on a foil, which reduces the risk of bending deformation or breakage during handling of the linings and during their use. in a clutch.
As a corollary, the invention also makes it possible to produce seals whose radial grooves have funds of minimum thickness, which makes these seals less sensitive to the thermal expansion differentials between the friction material and the foil.
The invention will be better understood and other characteristics, details and advantages thereof will appear more clearly on reading the description which follows, given by way of example with reference to the appended drawings in which: FIGS. 2 are partial schematic views, in perspective and in section respectively, of a dry friction lining of the prior art; - Figures 3, 4 and 5 are partial schematic views showing the grooves of a dry friction lining according to the invention. Referring first to FIGS. 1 and 2, which show a dry friction lining of the prior art, comprising a friction material 12 attached to a metal foil 14. Typically, the foil 14 is initially prepared by blasting, sanding, heat treatment or the like, and is optionally glued by deposition of a thin layer of a suitable adhesive, then the friction material is deposited in a thick layer on the foil and the assembly is then put in a press to be cooked under pressure. After cooking, the whole is rectified, followed by post-baking and piercing. Annular and radial grooves 18 are formed in the friction material 12 by compression in the aforementioned press and share the friction material in neighboring blocks 20 which are interconnected by the bottoms of the grooves 16, 18, which limits the deformations. due to the differential thermal expansions of the friction material and the foil 14 in use.
The radial grooves 18 which extend from the inner periphery to the outer periphery of the liner and which have a low or substantially zero bottom thickness, typically from 0 to about 1 mm, and preferably from 0 to 0.5 mm, this very flexible lining, resulting in the risk of deformation and breakage during handling of the lining and during use in a clutch.
The linings according to the invention, which are diagrammatically shown in FIGS. 3 to 5, have the same characteristics as the lining of FIGS. 1 and 2, with the exception of the radial grooves which are not rectilinear over their whole extent between the inner peripheries. and external gaskets, but which are formed of several rectilinear parts offset angularly or circumferentially relative to each other. These grooves are formed by pressing on the press, such as the grooves of the front fittings. Alternatively they can be formed by machining. The friction material of the gasket 22 shown schematically in FIG. 3 comprises at least one annular groove 24 and substantially radial grooves formed of several parts 26, 28 angularly offset. A first portion 26 of each radial groove extends from the inner peripheral portion of the liner to the annular groove 24, and a second portion 28 of the groove extends from the annular groove 24 to the outer periphery of the liner. The liner 30 of FIG. 4 comprises three annular grooves 32 of different diameter which are coaxial, and four-sided radial grooves which are offset circumferentially staggered with respect to one another. The first and third portions 34, 38 of these grooves are radially aligned, as are the second and fourth portions 36, 40 of these grooves. In Figure 5, the friction material of the liner comprises radial grooves formed of three portions 44, 46, 48 connected to each other in zigzag. These radial grooves are uniformly distributed around the axis of the lining, and annular grooves (not shown) can be formed in the friction material and cut the zigzag grooves, these annular grooves being of the same type as those shown. in Figure 1, Figure 3 or Figure 4 for example. For example, the flexural stiffness gain of a friction lining of the type shown in FIG. 4 is of the order of 10 when the friction material is of the molded type comprising fibers, fillers and resins, its thickness at level of the blocks formed between the grooves being 2 mm, the bottom thickness of the radial grooves being substantially zero, the thickness of the foil being 0.4 mm.
