Description

The present invention relates to an anti-roll bar for a motor vehicle running gear, and to a vehicle equipped with such an anti-roll bar. Motor vehicles generally have on the front axle, and in some cases on the rear axle, an anti-roll bar. An anti-roll bar of a known type, described in particular in US-B2-6832772, comprises a substantially rectilinear transverse central portion, whose ends are held by supports forming bearings connected to the vehicle body, and side portions protruding outwardly of these bearings. Each lateral part of the anti-roll bar comprises a bend making a lever arm, terminating at its end by a rod which is connected by a first articulation. This rod is in turn connected by a second joint to an arm or wishbone linked to the hub carrier of the wheel, to follow the vertical deflections of the wheel during the work of the suspension.

The vertical deflections of the suspension of each wheel are transmitted by the lever arms at the ends guided by the bearings, of the central part of the anti-roll bar, to apply rotations on these ends. The difference in travel of the wheels of the same train generates a torque applied between the two ends of the central portion of the anti-roll bar. This central portion acts as a spring working in torsion, to exert a restoring torque suspensions to a similar position on both sides. This anti-roll bar used for a front or rear train, thus reducing the lateral inclination of the vehicle, to ensure comfort and handling.

A problem that arises for this type of anti-roll bar is that the supports at the same time form the links with the vehicle body, and the rotational bearings of the central part. The transverse space between these two supports occupied by the central portion of torsion, is not free, which can be inconvenient in some configurations where we would like to use this space to implant organs. The present invention is intended to avoid these disadvantages of the prior art. It proposes for this purpose an anti-roll bar for a motor vehicle, comprising a central torsion portion disposed transversely, the ends of which are linked to the displacement of the suspensions of the wheels of an axle to apply to them a torque of torsion, characterized in that each end of the central torsion portion is attached to a lever disposed substantially longitudinally, at a point between a bearing of the lever forming a support connected to the vehicle body, and a connection of the lever subjected to the movement of the suspension of a wheel. An advantage of the anti-roll bar according to the invention is that the central torsion portion is longitudinally offset relative to the bearings, which frees a transverse space between these two bearings used to implement other components. In addition, the anti-roll bar according to the invention may comprise one or more of the following characteristics, which may be combined with one another. Advantageously, the bearing is at a fixed end of the lever, and the link subjected to movement is at the other mobile end of this lever. Advantageously, the ratio of the distances between, on the one hand, the bearing and the link subjected to deflection, and on the other hand this bearing and the central torsion portion, is between 3 and 6.

According to one embodiment, each lever comprises a longitudinal bar, of flat section disposed vertically.

The central portion of torsion may have a circular section, its ends penetrating each into a bore made on the flat side of the levers. A transverse axis can be attached to the lever, and surrounded by a rubber block held in the support to achieve the bearing. In one application, the anti-roll bar is mounted on a train having a plurality of suspension arms for guiding each wheel. In another application, the anti-roll bar is mounted on a train comprising a suspension MacPherson type.

The invention also comprises a motor vehicle comprising an anti-roll bar on a wheel train, characterized in that this anti-roll bar is made according to any one of the preceding features. The invention will be better understood and other features and advantages will emerge more clearly on reading the following description given by way of example, with reference to the appended drawings in which: FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an anti-roll bar according to the invention; - Figure 2 is a view of a front train comprising a plurality of wheel hub carrier suspension arms, equipped with this anti-roll bar; and FIG. 3 is a view of a nose gear comprising a suspension of the MacPherson type, equipped with this anti-roll bar. FIG. 1 represents an anti-roll bar 1 comprising a central torsion bar 2 of rectilinear shape, of circular section and arranged transversely, each end of which is connected to a lever 4 arranged substantially longitudinally at a point situated between the two ends of this lever . The levers 4 each consist of a bar of flat section disposed vertically, this bar being shaped according to a slight curvature allowing it to bypass obstacles.

Alternatively, the levers 4 could be constituted by bars having another section, circular or square in particular, which can be tubular, to obtain the best ratio between strength, weight, size and cost.

A fixed end of the longitudinal lever 4 located near the central torsion bar 2, comprises a bearing 8 comprising a transverse axis fixed on the flat side of the lever, surrounded by a rubber block held in a support 6 to perform a filtration of vibration. The support 6 made of pressed sheets is fixed by screws under a cradle of a not shown running gear. The other mobile end 10 of the lever 4, which is clearly spaced from the central torsion bar 2, is connected to an element supporting the axis of the wheel and following the movement of the suspension, such as a suspension arm, by a billet not shown having at its ends two bonds forming ball joints. The ends of the central torsion bar 2, each penetrate into a bore made on the flat side of the levers 4, to be then welded to these levers, which simply achieves a very rigid connection.

In this example, the ratio of distances between on the one hand the bearing 8 of the fixed end and the movable end 10, and on the other hand this bearing and the central torsion bar 2, is about 4. The operation of the anti-roll bar 1 is as follows. The travel of the suspension of each wheel causes a substantially vertical movement and equivalent movable ends 10 of their lever 4. This lever 4 pivots about its bearing axis 8 connected to the vehicle body, and bears on this bearing to generate an equivalent pivoting of the end of the central torsion bar 2, which applies a torque of torsion on this central bar. The force coming from the movement of the suspension and generated on the central torsion bar 2, is multiplied by the ratio of the lever 4, which is advantageously between 3 and 6.

The different pivoting of the levers 4, due to differences in the travel of the suspensions of the wheels of the same axle, apply equivalent pivoting on the ends of the central torsion bar 2, and generate the torque. By elastic deformation, this central torsion bar 2 applies in reaction a restoring torque on the levers 4, which tends to equalize the level of the two suspensions and to stabilize the vehicle. Figure 2 shows a front cradle 22 fixed under longitudinal members 20 of the body of a vehicle. Hub carriers not shown front wheels, are connected to the cradle 22 by a plurality of suspension arms 26 to ensure a thorough guidance of the front wheels during the movements of the suspensions. A gearbox 24 drives the front wheels by wheel shafts 28. The supports 6 containing the bearings 8, have on the top two horizontal flat parts placed at two different heights, allowing attachment to the rear of the cradle 22, to both on the side members 20 of the body and on this cradle. The levers 4 pass under the cradle 22, and above the lower suspension arms 26. Each movable end 10 of the levers 4, facing forwards, is connected by a hinge to a link 30 disposed substantially vertically. The upper part of these rods 30 is connected to an upper suspension arm by another articulation. It will be noted that the space located transversely between the two bearings 8 is completely disengaged, the central torsion bar 2 being offset forwards with respect to these bearings, which makes it possible to house different components. In addition, the anti-roll bar 1 has many advantages. It allows in particular to achieve different anti-roll bar stiffness settings on the same vehicle platform, retaining supports 6 with their bearing 8, and levers 4 identical. It suffices simply to modify the central torsion bar 2, for example by changing the diameter of the tube constituting it or the thickness of this tube, to obtain a different stiffness. Another way of adjusting the stiffness of the anti-roll bar 1, is to modify the ratio of the levers 4, by moving forward or back the fasteners of the central bar torsion 2 on these levers, while keeping similar levers. This adjustment can be done easily if the space is available to slightly move the central torsion bar 2, no other component being changed. It is the same in case of modification of the wheelbase of the vehicle.

A simple adjustment of the length of the central torsion bar 2, without modifying the other components, allows adaptation to different wheelbases. The anti-roll bar 1 offers a high level of standardization for different ranges of vehicles, which reduces costs.

As a variant, the central torsion bar 2 may not be rectilinear, and may include curves for, in particular, bypassing members in the vicinity. The section of this central bar 2 may be circular, or have other shapes. Figure 3 shows a front cradle 40 fixed under the body of a vehicle, supporting on each side a lower suspension triangle 42, which receives a not shown front wheel hub carrier. These wheel hub carriers comprise in the upper part a substantially vertical sliding guide generally integrated in the suspension, to achieve a suspension MacPherson type.

The anti-roll bar 1 operates for this front axle, similar to that shown in FIG. 2 for a front axle comprising several arms. In this FIG. 3, the design of an anti-roll bar 50 produced according to the prior art is imitably superimposed on the anti-roll bar 1 according to the invention, to present the differences.
