Abstract

The method involves measuring a value of a characteristic parameter of engine speed after a predetermined time and after starting an engine (20). The measured value is compared to a predetermined value, and starting of the engine is immediately interrupted when the measured value is less than the predetermined value. The characteristic value of the engine speed is chosen as one of rotational speed of a crankshaft, a drive pinion or a gearbox shaft and a rotor of an electric starting machine (21) e.g. starter, for starting the engine. An independent claim is also included for a system for managing starting of an engine of a vehicle.
