Description
The present invention relates generally to a filler metal composition comprising a mixture of powders, as well as to a brazing process involving a work of art. such a filler metal composition to obtain at least one solder between a first element and a second element to be assembled. The invention applies preferentially but in no way limiting to the field of aeronautics, and more specifically to that of the assembly of turbomachine elements, such as elements of a high-pressure compressor rectifier. of a turbomachine. STATE OF THE PRIOR ART The assembly using solders of elements made from nickel has been used for many years in the field of aeronautics. For the solder assembly of elements made in an INC0718 alloy such as those usually encountered in turbomachine compressors, the filler metal of the filler metal composition generally used is of the alloy powder-based type. nickel NiCrBSi, whose melting point is of the order of 1000 C. This composition has so far proved relatively satisfactory, insofar as it is capable of generating a solder at low cost, and having mechanical properties performance. However, a disadvantage related to this solder composition is constituted by the fact that it is limited to the assembly of elements having a set of assembly less than 200 .mu.m. Indeed, it has been noted that beyond the aforesaid value, the high fluidity of the solder composition at the soldering temperature implies that the melt is escaping from the set by drips, which can make it unfit to exert a rise by capillarity within the same set. Therefore, the use of this composition of low cost filler metal requires a high precision of machining and manufacturing of the elements to be assembled, for to ensure that the assembling games obtained are not greater than 200 μm. When these tolerances are not large enough and the sets of assemblies encountered thus become greater than 200 pm, it is then inevitably encountered a high rate of retouching and rejects, which obviously adds to the cost of production of the turbine engine. As such, as has just been mentioned, the solder may even be unfeasible when the game takes too large a dimension.
DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION The main purpose of the invention is therefore to propose a filler metal composition which overcomes the disadvantages mentioned above relating to the embodiments of the prior art. To do this, the subject of the invention is a filler metal composition comprising a powder mixture consisting of a NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder, that is to say comprising nickel, chromium, boron and silicon, and a nickel powder present in a proportion of 5 to 15% by weight in the powder mixture. Thus, the present invention proposes to mix the NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder that was usually used up to now, with a nickel powder whose essential purpose is to reduce the fluidity of the resulting powder mixture at the temperature brazing. These two powders are preferably the filler metal part of the composition according to the invention, which means, in other words, that there is preferably no other metallic elements in the composition. It is noted that the addition of the nickel powder in the proportion indicated above makes it possible to create a multitude of fine games between the various particles of pure nickel, these fine games being then filled by the molten powder of alloy with NiCrBSi nickel base. In order for the viscosity of the powder mixture to be at the brazing temperature to be as satisfactory as possible, the brazing temperature used is preferably such that it is less than the melting point of the nickel, so that the nickel particles remain in the solid state during the brazing process. Nevertheless, it is nevertheless specified that the mixture of powders according to the invention could be used with a soldering temperature greater than the melting point of nickel, without departing from the scope of the invention, since the viscosity of this molten mixture would continue to be much higher than that of NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy molten powder. The reduced fluidity of the molten metal composition thus advantageously makes it possible for the capillary forces to fill assembly gaps well above 200 μm. Indeed, it has been noticed that a mixture of powders consisting of a NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder and a nickel powder present in a proportion ranging from 5 to 15% by weight made it possible to fill satisfactory, by capillary rise, assembling sets of up to 700 pm. This is all the more interesting as the tests carried out have made it possible to demonstrate that brazing using the solder composition according to the invention could be carried out without modifying the thermal brazing cycles usually employed for compositions incorporating only NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder as the filler metal. In addition, the mixture of powders used in the invention has a cost substantially identical to that of the NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder, and makes it possible to obtain solders whose mechanical properties are similar to those of the solders obtained at using a solder composition comprising only nickel-based NiCrBSi alloy powder as the filler metal.
Finally, it is pointed out that the possibility of being able to fill assembling sets of larger size with the aid of the aforementioned mixture of powders advantageously makes it possible to envisage manufacturing the elements to be assembled with lower tolerances, without however risking to increase the rate of retouching and rejects. Preferably, the nickel powder is present in a proportion of about 8% by weight in the powder mixture. This provides an optimum blend in terms of total weight of the composition and resulting viscosity at the soldering temperature. This proportion of approximately 8% by weight of nickel powder is entirely suitable for ensuring the rise of the solder by capillarity in an assembly clearance of the order of 500 μm. Preferably, the NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder has a melting point of the order of 1000 ° C., the soldering temperature of the composition then being preferably set at around 10 ° C. Preferably, the NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder comprises 85.5% nickel, 7% chromium, 4.5% silicon and 3% boron. Furthermore, it is preferably provided that the filler metal part of the composition, that is to say the metal part, consists solely of the aforementioned mixture of powders. The composition can then also comprise an organic binder, allowing for example it to be in the form of a paste, conducive to the subsequent realization of a bead of filler metal. As an indication, the paste intended to form a bead of filler metal is such that it can be deposited directly with the aid of a syringe, or be stored in a wound manner. In the case where the deposition of the paste to obtain the cord is carried out using a syringe, it is noted that this paste can indifferently be deposited at the entrance or directly in the capillary clearance to be filled. The organic binder retained is preferably of the type commonly used in the field of vacuum furnace brazing, such as those sold commercially under the names Braz Binder Gel VITTA and NICROBRAZ Cement. The invention also relates to a bead of filler metal made with a filler metal composition such as that just described, and is therefore preferably in the form of a paste. The invention also relates to an assembly comprising a first element and a second element fixedly connected to one another by means of at least one solder obtained from such a solder composition or such a bead of filler metal.
Another object of the present invention relates to the use of such a filler metal composition or a bead of filler metal, for producing a solder. Finally, the subject of the invention is also a soldering method for assembling a first element with a second element by means of at least one solder produced using such a composition of filler metal or such a bead of filler metal. Preferably, the method comprises a step of heating in the oven the solder composition, implemented so as to obtain a brazing temperature greater than 1000 ° C. and less than 1200 ° C., and preferably about 1040 ° C.
Preferably, the brazing temperature is maintained for about ten minutes. In addition, it is preferably provided that the heating step is carried out so that the brazing temperature is reached at a speed of between about 10 and 20 C / minute. Still preferentially, the method is implemented so as to produce solder between the first and the second elements spaced apart by an assembly clearance of up to 700 μm.
The first and second elements to be brazed together are preferably elements of a turbomachine, such as elements of a turbomachine compressor stator. Finally, it is stated that the first and second elements to be brazed together are elements made of an INCO718 alloy.
Other advantages and features of the invention will become apparent in the detailed non-limiting description below. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS This description will be made with reference to the appended drawings among which; FIGS. 1a, 1b and 1c schematize various steps of a soldering method according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS With reference to FIGS. 1a, 1b and 1c, it is possible to see the schematization of various steps of a brazing process according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, aimed at ensuring the assembly of two elements such as elements of a turbomachine high pressure compressor rectifier. The two elements 1, 2 to be fixedly assembled using at least one solder are each made of a nickel-based alloy such as an INC0718 alloy. For example, it can be a straightener blade and its support. In this preferred embodiment, the two elements 1, 2 are arranged relative to one another so as to obtain a set of assemblies 3 between them with a magnitude of the order of 500 μm. Of course, the size of the above set corresponds to the spacing between the two elements 1, 2. This set 3 is intended to be filled by a solder made from a solder composition or solder composition that will now be detailed and which is also an object of the present invention. Firstly, it is noted that this solder composition, preferably comprising an organic binder, is in the form of a bead of filler metal, which is available for example in the lower part of the play 3, between the two elements 1 and 2 as shown in Figure lb. More specifically, the composition consists of a mixture of metal powders forming the filler metal part, and thus of an organic binder allowing this composition to be in the form of a paste that is easy to handle to obtain a bead of filler metal. The powder mixture consists of a NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder preferably comprising 85.5% nickel, 7% chromium, 4.5% silicon and 3% boron, and a pure nickel powder. occurring in a proportion of about 8% by weight in this mixture of powders. In addition, the NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder has a melting point of the order of 1000 C. As such, it is noted that in FIG. 1b, the solder bead 14 has been shown schematically. so as to reveal the organic binder 16 and the powder mixture 18, the latter consisting of the NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder 20 and the pure nickel powder 22. This bead 14 obtained from the composition The above-mentioned filler metal can thus be deposited in the lower part of the set 3 as shown in FIG. 1b from a syringe, or simply come from a filler metal coil. When this cord is in place on the elements 1, 2 to be assembled, it is then implemented a furnace heating step of this cord, preferably under secondary vacuum or under partial pressure of argon. The heating step is carried out so that the brazing temperature, which is here preferably of the order of 1040 C, is reached at a speed between about 10 and 20 C / minute. Once the brazing temperature is reached, it is kept for about 10 minutes during which the composition is melted. More precisely, it is the NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder that is melted, whereas the pure nickel powder remains in the solid state in order to form a multitude of fine games between the nickel particles. filled with molten NiCrBSi nickel alloy powder. It is this specificity which makes it possible to obtain a reinforced viscosity of the solder composition at the soldering temperature, and which therefore makes it possible to produce solders in assembling sets of large quantities which may be close to 500 μm. even 700 pm. Thus, during the heating step, the composition initially located below the assembly set penetrates in the lower part thereof to go up progressively by capillarity towards the upper part, to completely fill the same set of assembly as can be seen in Figure 1c.
It is noted that because of the high viscosity of the composition at the soldering temperature, no sag is formed in the back of play, despite the large spacing between the two elements 1 and 2.
Furthermore, it is specified that the organic binder 16 allows the mixture of powders 18 to be bonded during the rising phase to the melting temperature of the NiCrBSi 20 powder. Once this melting temperature has been reached, the capillary forces which allow the rise of the liquid metal within the game 3. Once the heating step completed, cooling can be operated. We then obtain a solder 4 completely filling the initial clearance, and participating in the formation of an assembly 6 comprising the two elements 1 and 2 fixedly assembled by this solder 4, and possibly with the aid of other solders (not shown) . In this regard, it is noted that the assembly clearance 3 can extend around a closed line surrounding the element 1. In such a case, it is possible that several cords are arranged on the game, all around of the aforementioned line, so as to subsequently create several solders located in the continuity of the others.
Bien entendu, diverses modifications peuvent être apportées par l'homme du métier au procédé de brasage et la composition de métal d'apport qui viennent d'être décrits, uniquement à titre d'exemples non limitatifs.15 Finally, in Figure 1c, there is shown schematically the nickel particles 22 which did not melt during the heating step. These particles 22 are then in the form of nodules of smaller radii than the rays of the same particles encountered in the solder composition before soldering, and are now distributed substantially uniformly within a metallic solid block 10 constituted by the NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy, and from the cooling of NiCrBSi nickel-based alloy powder which was melt during the heating step. As an indication, the nickel particles 22 within the solder 4 may have a diameter of the order of 63 pm. Of course, various modifications may be made by those skilled in the art to the brazing process and the solder composition which have just been described, solely as non-limiting examples.
