Description

DESCRIPINDESCRIPIN
The present invention relates to the technical field of styrene resins and particularly to the field of fire-resistant styrene resins and more particularly to halogen-free resins having both thermo-mechanical resistance, fire resistance and flow properties which meet the requirements. targeted applications. It describes in particular a styrene composition containing polyphenylene ether, a phosphorus compound and a phenolic resin. Styrene-based polymers have been known for a long time and are
Among them, impact-resistant polymers occupy an important place. The methods of synthesis of these polymers are widely known.
In general and according to the intended application, these polymers are formulated with suitable additives, in particular for flame retardant. Thus, the manufacturer or the user has to incorporate flame retardants or flame retardants into his styrene resins. It is easy to fireproof these polymers with halogenated products; it is also possible to flameproof them with halogen-free additives, but the quantity of additives required is then greater. Furthermore, many of these halogen-free additives alter either the thermomechanical properties (this is the case for phosphorous compounds for example) or the homogeneity of the final mixture, the shaping and the UV properties (this is the case for polymers based on polyphenylene ether).
For example, USP 4107232 describes compositions based on styrene resins containing polyphenylene ether, hereinafter referred to as PPE and triphenylphosphine oxide. Although this type of formulation is now well known, those skilled in the art are often confronted with practical difficulties in the production of PPE / styrene resins mixtures (important shaping problem for example).
En revanche, à des taux inférieurs à 5%, le polyphénol augmente les propriétés thermiques et ignifuges WO 01/68766 sought a solution to this problem by proposing a composition containing, in addition to the previously mentioned products, a phenolic resin. The Applicant has found that the solution proposed by WO 01/68766 is only partial. In fact, the applicant has found that the mechanical and shaping properties of the mixture are unsuitable for the intended applications when the level of polyphenol exceeds 5% by weight of the final mixture. At rates higher than 5%, the products obtained by shaping the mixtures are in fact without mechanical, heterogeneous properties and have no UV resistance. In contrast, at rates below 5%, polyphenol increases thermal and flame retardant properties
(coal effect) without modifying the other properties. Furthermore, at these low levels, the polyphenol causes an anti-dripping effect which prevents the addition of other additives.
The problem which the invention therefore seeks to solve is to obtain a mixture, based on styrenic resin, which is: - without halogenated compounds - easy to homogenize
- Having an excellent formability (a fluidity allowing the injection, for example of television casing, complex molding part).
- procurant aux pièces, ainsi mises en forme, de bonnes propriétés thermiques, mécaniques et répondant aux normes d'ignifugation en vigueur dans les applications visées (certification UL VO par exemple), - providing the parts, thus shaped, with good thermal and mechanical properties and meeting the fireproofing standards in force in the targeted applications (UL VO certification for example),
The Applicant has found that the solution to the technical problem previously described lies in the choice of both styrenic resin and additives and in the choice of their proportions, in particular in reduced levels of PPE.
