Abstract

The overvoltage removal mechanism has a parallel varistor (1) with a differential circuit breaker (2). The circuit is placed between an input connection (A1) and output wires (B2). When an overvoltage appears the varistor conducts creating a default current for the circuit breaker.

Description

The present invention relates to a device for stopping electrical overvoltages (at low voltage) which could occur on electrical distribution networks, both empty and loaded.

Electric overvoltage phenomena are quite common and pose a real problem for the network operator as well as for the user when, for example, the rupture of a common neutral causes overvoltage.

The invention is characterized by particular connection (fig. 1) of a varistor (1) to a differential cut-off system (2). The connection consists in connecting the varistor (1) between an input terminal (A1) and an output terminal (B2) of the differential switching device (2) (fig.1).

When an overvoltage appears, greater than the short-circuit voltage of the varistor (1), that 'becomes conducting, creating a fault current for the differential, triggering the latter. The differential trip current being low, the fault intensity <I> created </I> does not reach a high value and does not cause additional disturbances or destruction of the varistor. This allows the invention to work several times, the user only having to reset the system.

The characteristics of the varistor chosen determine the maximum acceptable overvoltage value depending on the operating constraints.

The system described above provides protection for a single-phase bipolar feeder. A modification associating three varistors (1), (5), (6) on a four-pole differential system (7) would ensure the protection of a three-phase feeder with neutral (fig. 2) The differential cut-out system would either be a differential circuit breaker, either a differential switch, or any other cut-off assembly based on differential tripping.

For the application of the invention on existing installations, the wiring of the varistor (s) to the differential cut-off system in insulated wires and its introduction into the recesses is possible. The mounting of the varistor (s) in an insulated modular box, next to the differential switching system and external wiring is also possible.

4). For future generations, the wiring and the varistor (s) will be integrated (3) into the differential switching device (fig. 3) and (fig. 4).

The varistor (s) can be withdrawable, allowing modularity in the protection function as well as easy maintenance.

In order to ensure the isolation function of the user with respect to the source after the tripping of the differential shutdown system, an additional pole {8) (. 3) and (fig.4) mechanically controlled by the main distribution poles energy is added to the device.

This additional pole can be an additive integrated into the differential breaking system.

The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention. Figures 1 and 2 show the system to be added differential shutdown systems currently in place on networks.

FIGS. 3 and 4 represent the system integrated into a new generation of differential breaking systems, additionally ensuring the function of (total) galvanic isolation between the source and the user.
