Abstract

The seed counter has a hollow chamber with an orifice to allow introduction of a suction device. Facing this orifice is a surface with a set number of holes, for example one hundred. The size of the holes is set so that the seed cannot pass through and is trapped in the hole. The chamber is then opened so when the suction is removed the seed caught in the holes falls into a container.

Description

The present invention relates to a device making it possible to take a given number of seed grains, with the aim of counting in a short time a number of grains multiple of this starting number. For example, this invention can make it possible to collect a hundred seeds of seed simultaneously, with the aim of counting a thousand seeds in a short time.

This invention is intended for farmers preparing their own farm seed themselves. The farmer must indeed know the number of grains to sow per m2. For this purpose, he must measure the weight of a thousand grains of his seed, which varies from 36 grams to 58 grams, and use a conversion table. The specialized firms which sell semen indicate on their bags the P.M.G. (weight of a thousand grains). On the other hand, when a farmer uses his own seed, he has to count, which is a long operation. Specialized firms use expensive machines for counting, which are beyond the reach of farmers. The present invention aims to allow farmers preparing their seed themselves to count a thousand grains with a quick and inexpensive device.

The device can be made of various materials (plastic, P.V.C., tinplate, aluminum, etc.). It consists of a hollow body, which includes an orifice into which a system can be introduced, making it possible to create a depression inside the body (for example the nozzle of a household vacuum cleaner). Opposite this orifice, there is a surface perforated with the desired number of holes (100 in our example). These holes are of a diameter which does not allow seeds of seed to pass there and sufficiently spaced from each other.

After filling a container with semen, the user introduces the vacuum system (for example the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner) into the orifice. It turns on the suction and places the surface pierced with holes on the seed. The seeds stick to the holes by depression, and without passing through them. I1 suffices for the user to present the device still in suction above a second container and to stop the suction so that the grains fall by themselves. To obtain a thousand grains, the user will only have to take ten samples if the device has a hundred holes (five samples would be necessary with a shutter having two hundred holes, and so on according to the same principle).

An alternative to this device is to complete the holes with small tubes (or other shapes), protruding from the main body, on which the grains also stick by vacuum.

By way of nonlimiting example, the hollow body can be a PVC cylinder with a diameter of 100 mm and a height of 7 cm. One of the flat faces of the cylinder has a hole with an inside diameter of 35 mm (suitable for the average of household vacuum cleaners). The opposite face is drilled with 100 holes of 0.6 mm diameter, spaced 7 mm from each other.

This device is particularly intended for counting a thousand seeds.
