Abstract

The fibre optic pattern formation has a frame (1) forming a rigid panel and having a grid form. Pattern formation is carried out by interweaving the fibre optic cables in the rigid panel grid lattice. A light unit (3) lights the cables. The fibre optic ends emit light forming the pattern symbol (M).

Description

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing an article of light decoration.

In terms of light decoration, either incandescent bulbs or optical fibers are used.

Until now, optical fibers have not been used for the production of decorative street patterns, unlike incandescent electric bulbs which are widely used in the production of light banners suspended transversely to the roadways.

This disaffection is explained by the fact that the optical fibers are in the form of long flexible filaments which must be fixed to a panel in order to be used. From this obligation arise two drawbacks the first lies in the fact that the decorative pattern is visible only on one side of the panel and, the second, lies in the fact that such a panel offers a great grip in the wind making its very difficult to use outside.

The method of the invention, which overcomes these drawbacks, consists in fixing the optical fibers on a rigid reinforcement in the form of a mesh.

-la figure 1 montre un panneau décoratif établi selon le procédé de l'invention;
-la figure 2 est une vue partielle et à plus grande échelle du panneau de la figure 1;
-la figure 3 est une vue en coupe transversale du panneau de la figure 2;
The present invention will be better understood from the description which follows, given with reference to the accompanying drawing, by way of indicative example only, in which
FIG. 1 shows a decorative panel established according to the method of the invention;
FIG 2 is a partial view on a larger scale of the panel of Figure 1;
FIG 3 is a cross-sectional view of the panel of Figure 2;
FIG. 4 is a view, similar to FIG. 3, showing an alternative embodiment.

Referring to the drawing and according to one embodiment, the decorative pattern M, to be produced (in this case a star) using optical fibers, known per se, is carried by a rigid and largely openwork frame 1.

According to the invention, a commercial wire mesh, metallic or plastic, can be used to constitute the frame 1.

Preferably, the frame 1 is provided with a frame 2 allowing, in particular, the fixing of the usual light source 3.

The frame, shown in the drawing, is produced from a mesh obtained by welding two plies of parallel wires, the wires 4a of one ply being arranged perpendicular to those 4b of the other ply and thus defining square mesh 5.

As can be seen from FIGS. 2 and 3, the optical fibers can be fixed against one or the other of the faces of the frame 1.

This is the case of fibers 6a and 6b which are ligated from place to place using appropriate links, not shown.

The optical fibers can be maintained by interlacing as is the case of fibers 6c and 6d.

It follows from the above explanations that the illuminated ends 7 of the fibers can be arranged on one side or the other of the reinforcement and that, by a judicious distribution of these, it is possible that the pattern M is visible from both sides of the panel delimited by the frame 2.

In general, the reference 6 can designate an isolated fiber or a bundle of fibers.

If we refer to Figure 4, we see that the fibers of the same bundle 8 can have different lengths and be arranged so that the ends 7 of the fibers are arranged on either side of the plane of l frame.

Bien entendu, le procédé de l'invention est applicable à des fibres à illumination latérale  Of course, the process of the invention is applicable to fibers with lateral illumination
