Abstract

The opening section (1) of the door or window closes against one of the uprights (6) of the fixed section (2). The opening section has an open groove (15) which contains a sliding mechanism (9) which moves vertically within the groove. It has bolt (8) which extends to the side which, when the window is closed, fits into a strike plate (14) in the fixed section. The sliding mechanism has a control device (10, 11) so that it can be along the groove. One end of the sliding mechanism rests on a return spring (12) mounted in the groove and held in position by a stop (13). When effort is exerted on the control device, it compresses the spring and separates the bolt from the strike plate so that the window can be opened. When the sliding mechanism is release, the spring ensures that the bolt returns to its former position in the strike plate, closing the window.
