Abstract

The bed or seat has its surface made up of a series of separate mobile elements (1) arranged on top of an air-filled mattress (2) or cushion. The elements can be made e.g. from solid wood or plastics, measure 3-10 cm long by 1-5 cm wide and have a triangular, round, square, rectangular, hexagonal or octagonal cross-section. They are able to slide freely relative to one another by having clearances of a few tenths of a millimetre between them. The air cushion or mattress has an inflatable chamber with a pressure control valve (3) and is covered by a layer of a foam material (6) such as 'Bultex' (RTM).
