Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an alternator of a motor vehicle with internal ventilation provided with an improved bearing in order to reduce the noise due to ventilation.
The invention relates more particularly to a motor vehicle alternator, of the type comprising a substantially cylindrical casing closed at at least one of its axial ends by a transverse bearing which rotates a drive shaft of the alternator, of the type in which at least one fan with blades is arranged inside the alternator and is driven in rotation by the shaft, of the type in which, relative to the direction of rotation of the fan, each blade has an active front face which causes the circulation, inside the alternator, of a flow of air suitable for cooling the alternator, and of the type in which the bearing is perforated and has a central sleeve for guiding the shaft which is connected to a peripheral portion of the bearing by arms which delimit between them orifices through which the air flow circulates axially.
The internal ventilation makes it possible to cool the alternator effectively and, consequently, for a given size of the alternator, to increase the maximum electric power produced by the alternator.
However, the air flow which passes through the fan is a significant source of noise and this noise is notably due to the aerodynamic turbulence of the air when it meets the obstacles formed by the various organs of the alternator.
In particular, there is significant turbulence at the air inlet orifices arranged in the bearing of the alternator.
These turbulences are all the more important since, the fan being generally arranged axially very close to the bearing, there is an acoustic interaction between the blades of the fan and the arms of the bearing between which the air inlet orifices are arranged.
Indeed, the pressure front and the vacuum front created respectively in front and behind a blade interact strongly with the arm, all the more so when the relative speed of the blade relative to the bearing is important.
In order to limit the turbulence of the air flow at the inlet of the alternator, and therefore in order to limit the noise due to the ventilation of the latter, the invention proposes an alternator of the type seen above, characterized in that the bearing arms extend in the transverse plane of the bearing in a general direction which is inclined, with respect to a radial direction of the bearing, in the direction of an increase in the angle between the general direction d 'an arm and the orientation of the front face of a fan blade when the blade is at the level of this arm during its rotational movement.

FIG. 1 shows an alternator 10 with internal ventilation which comprises a casing 12, substantially cylindrical with an axis AI, the two front and rear axial ends 16 and 16 of which are each closed by a transverse bearing 18, 20.
The front 18 and rear 20 bearings are each provided with a cylindrical central sleeve 22, 24 of axis Al in which are received bearings 26, 28 for guiding in rotation a drive shaft 30 of axis Al of l 'alternator.
Inside the casing 12 of the alternator, a claw rotor 32 is fixed on the shaft 30 which drives it in rotation at the center of a stator winding 34 fixed on the internal cylindrical face of the casing 12.
In a known manner, the front axial end 36 of the shaft 30 projects outside the casing 12 through the front bearing 18 and carries a pulley wheel 38 intended to receive a belt (not shown) driven by the motor ( not shown) of the vehicle.
The rear end 42 of the shaft 30 protrudes through the rear bearing 20 of the alternator 10 and in particular comprises two cylindrical contact surfaces 44 on which brushes 46 rub carried by a brush holder plate 48 which is fixed to a external face of the rear bearing 20.
In known manner, the brush holder plate 48 also carries electronic components (not shown) intended for regulating the electric current produced by the alternator 10.
A protective housing 50 covers the brush holder plate 48 and is provided with slots 52 to allow ventilation of the alternator.
The alternator 10 also comprises a front fan 54 and a rear fan 56 which are fixed on the rotor 32, each axially opposite respectively the front 18 and rear 20 bearings.
I'alternateur 10. The front fans 54 and rear 56 are provided with blades 58 which are intended to cause the circulation of an air flow in
The alternator 10. Each of the fans 54, 56 draws fresh air axially through orifices 60 made for this purpose in the front 18 and rear bearings 20 and discharges the air substantially radially outward through side vents 62 which are shown in particular in FIGS. 2 to 5.
As can be seen more particularly in FIGS. 2 and 4, the air inlet orifices 60 are arranged between arms 64 which connect the central sleeves 22, 24 of the front 18 and rear 20 bearings to the peripheral portion of each of these bearings 18, 20.
According to the state of the art (not shown), the arms 64 extend radially around the axis A1 of the alternator.
However, as can be seen more particularly in FIGS. 3 and 5, the front fans 54 and rear 56 have blades 58 whose active front face 66, determined by the direction of rotation of the rotor 32, is oriented in a direction which makes an angle Ol with a radius of the fan passing through the blade 58.
Each blade 58 is thus oriented so that the active front face 66 drives out the air molecules radially towards the outside of the alternator.
The value of the angle O1 of orientation of the blades 58 generally varies between 0 and 30 ".
When the blades are arranged substantially radially, that is to say when the angle O1 is zero, the fan can be used either at the front axial end 14 or at the rear axial end 16 of the alternator 10.
However, an angle O1 of the order of 30 makes it possible to improve the efficiency of the fans 54, 56 and will therefore be preferred.
In accordance with the teachings of the invention, the arms 64 of the bearing 18, 20 are oriented in a direction which forms an angle 02 with respect to a radius of the fan passing through the internal radial end 68 of the arm 64.
The angle O2 of the arm 64 relative to the radius is chosen in a direction opposite to the orientation of the active face 66 of a blade 58 passing through the same radius.
In this way, as can be seen more particularly in FIG. 8, the angle of incidence e formed between the general direction of the arm 64 and the orientation of the active front face 66 of the blade 58 is equal to the sum of the two angles 01, û2 and consequently, by choosing an angle 02 of the order of 30, substantially equal to 60 ".
In this way, in its relative movement with respect to the arm 64, the blade 68 causes in its passage a shock wave, due to the pressure difference prevailing between its front and rear faces, much lower insofar as the angle incidence of the pressure front relative to the arm is important.
This phenomenon is even more reduced in the case of the rear fan 56 which has curved blades 58, unlike the front fan 54 which has straight blades 58.
With curved blades, the angle of incidence 0 between the orientation of the front face 66 of the blade 58 and the general direction of the arm 64 is further increased when the external radial ends 70 of the blades 58 are considered.
However, it is at this point that the speed of the air particles is the highest, due to the greater linear speed of the radial ends 70 of the blades 58.
Following the same reasoning, provision can be made for bearing arms 64 which are not rectilinear, as in the embodiment which is shown in the figures, but which on the contrary are curved.
According to another aspect of the invention, and as can be seen in FIGS. 6 and 7, the arms 64 of the alternator 10 according to the invention are not of a prismatic section, as is known from l 'state of the art, but have a sectional profile which is likely to reduce the aerodynamic resistance opposed by each arm 64 to the air flow passing through the bearing 18, 20.
It is in particular desirable to reduce the width of the arm 64 in a direction perpendicular to the direction of flow of the air flow around the arm 64.
Various shapes can be envisaged, such as elliptical or ovoid shapes which, when they are arranged so that their major axis is parallel to the air flow, make it possible to substantially reduce the turbulence of the air flow passing through the bearing 18, 20.
In the case of an arm 64 of ovoid section as shown in Figure 6, which allows to keep a strong section of the arm 64, we choose to have the thickest edge 72 of the arm 64 towards the outside of the bearing 18, 20, upstream in the air flow passing through the bearing 18, 20.
It is also possible to provide for the sectional shape of the arm 64 to vary between its internal radial 68 and external 69 ends.
Of course, the combination of the inclination of the arms 64 and the adaptation of their shape in section will make it possible to obtain the best results as regards the reduction in turbulence generated at the level of the bearing and therefore as regards the reduction in noise generated by the alternator ventilation 10.
