Abstract

The electronic detection and indicator unit makes use of an echo signal (radio or ultrasonic) to monitor the distance to the next vehicle and to detect obstacles while parking. The detector is mounted on the rear of the vehicle, and directs the signal backward to reflect from the following vehicle. The echo signal is processed and if the following vehicle is too close the hazard warning lights or another flashing light is activated. The warning continues until the following vehicle drops back to a safe distance behind. The parking is set to a shorter effective range in response to measurement of vehicle speed. It activates an audible signal for the driver.
